@Linus117 Why? Because in about 20 yrs. someone will be saying the same thing to you when you're listening to Justin Bieber then too you'll have memories of your era. It will be "old stuff" someday......
Are you fucking kidding? JB is NO where near the class of these guys. He fucking wishes he could be this good. JB is a fucking NOTHING compared to these guys
Don't even mention that Bieber puke here. there's NO comparison. His so called music will be forgotten in a few years while CLASSICS like this will be played when Bieber's back with the earth.
I fxxxing hate it when I can hear this song from the Radio over and over agin... it'd be a great song to me if I could listen to it only when I want to!!!
Radio stations in Australia should seriously think about improvement.
@seattleappel MARRIAGE is a LONG word.Kudos and mucho congrats on you two on your ''30 years and counting''.My girlfriend, who was my high school sweetheart, and I had hit a rough patch but we worked it out.I guess it was meant to be!!!!!!!
This tune brings back many great memories of myself and my girlfriend who broke up in early '77.......I pulled my head outta my butt later that year and we started talking again.the rest is history.....this october we will celebrate our thirty-third wedding anniversary.....two wonderful grown kiddos..Lot's of great memories.....Life has been good to me...........
This just kills: me. At the time I did not know that this tune, as well as john Waite, impregnated my thoughts with the sublime force of this song. Classic, it moves me so!!!
Cathy this was and still is our song. Thank you for all the countless blessed memories. It was an honor to Love you and be Loved by you. Your passing was way to soon and you were to young but your very much alive in my thoughts and in my heart. REST IN PEACE ANGEL!
I have an 8mm of John performing this song live, back in 1978. I'll find it and post it. I wrote this song for John... wow, talk about memories. I was still in high school.
heard this song, knew it was meant for me and you.i know its been tuff on a philly girl,ya playa will make that up to ya,please give me the chance..i love you Elaine Marie, missing you from Mississippi,Buck
Funny coachhrothgar449, I said exactly the same thing about the eighties music during the transition from the late 70's into the early eighties with MTV.
MTV killed talent and the record companies glommed onto catchy videos and the music died which led to no-talent hip-hop, rap trash.
There are talented musicians out there but they don't get noticed because the record companies aren't selling music anymore they're selling attitude and a bad one at that.
@67buick350 Sad thing is now at 60 years old the Soft Rock Adult Contemporary music even in the early to mid 1980's has Soul to it compared to the garbage that came out since the mid 1990's with the Autotune garbage. Kids today cant sing without depending on their very lives with God forsaken Autotune.
@67buick350 Gee, I'm 20 and I happen to enjoy the music that's being produced today. Do I like Top 40? Not particularly. But there's a lot of great music being made today that is doing very well. The internet has made it easier than ever for good music to gain exposure. I think the real problem is that your ears did not adapt to quickly changing styles. You don't like our music today, and I probably won't like my kids' music tomorrow. Don't blame the maaannnn, man.
@MrJims23 You certainly don't seem wiser than I, judging by your awful syntax. And how can I show proper respect for elders who insist that my opinion on music today is simply 'wrong?'
Why is it we think of that special person more now than we did then? Why didn't we get warned about falling in love and relating to music? My god I'm getting old but, I still love this music . The 70's music frigging rules.
People say a love like ours will surely pass but I know a love like ours will last and last...........................and that's the way I feel about John Waite and his vocals!..... It may have something to do with my childhood passion with the Baby's, maybe, but, it is all well worth hearing over and over and over and over again. Everytime I think of you it always turns out good!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Petra, Thank you for posting this video. You have just took be back to a time when I was younger and things were better. Im so glad there are people like you that are keeping this music alive. And it makes me feel alive. Post more........
One thing what I don't understand is why couldn't they been as huge as Foreigner, REO Speedwagon and Journey? They were just as great as the aforementioned bands
@andrewlukenichols299 That I couldn't agree with you more, I pretty much loved everything that came out prior to when Nirvana came out with "Smells Like Teen Spirit"
Always loved the big, brassy accompaniment on this song (as well as its 'sister' song "Isn't It Time"). It certainly makes the song go! Thanks for sharing.
@spiritualaccent It sure does. It's like they just forgot how to write real music. John Waite is brilliant: and that voice! If you haven't seen him recently, you have to.
It's reminiscent of the "supposed" fans who don't even take the time to spell names properly. I wish I had a penny for every time I saw "Led Zepplin" (sic) spelled thusly!
This reminds me of music. People writing, actually playing instruments, performing. There was passion and soul and fun. Too bad music had to die in the late 90's... even worse that it was replaced by phony, manufactured, no-talent garbage...
I think it was the synergy between humans. Something magical happens. Now you've got digital this, digital that, sampling everything in sight, auteurs cloistered in home studios cooking up soulless ditties. Something has been lost in this headlong rush to digitizing. We're on a train, it seems; but headed where?
My thoughts on that are it is just another phase of manipulation by media and corporate brainwashing. Fill the youth with angst, hate, disconnection and manufactured sounds and programming. I really feel sorry for the youth of America and around the world
@howdyfeller -- That's right. Today's kids are going to grow up not having known good music in their own lifetime. They'll have to look back to the time before they were born, if they're willing to, and so many kids aren't willing to.
@57highland Its funny because I remember when all these flash in the pan, 15 minutes of fame artists started. In the 90s the big rave was Alternative Music, Nirvanna, Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, etc. Does anyone even listen to those bands anymore? They were a few years of stardom and dissappeared as fast as Shaun Cassidy. The Industry just throws these bands away like trash, there is no longevity.
@howdyfeller - Right. I actually thought Nirvana was OK; their songs, though "grunge", had melody. Stone Temple Pilots were good too. No Doubt too. Your right. The industry cycles bands out after 2 maybe 3 albums, and I think the bands accept it. So many bands that the industry uses and then trashes them; consequently, they don't have to be that good. The fast cycle promotes mediocrity and lack of creativity. Every new band sounds something like that one which just got cycled out.
@coachhrothgar449 I have often said the same thing.....I grew up in the 80's and graduated in 94....by 1999, music went to pots...I am finding myself liking some of the newer stuff but I have to search high and low for the talented artists.....most songs that are written anymore all sound like a factory based song...true passion is gone....and I sure hope a newer generation will some how revive the passion
I rant and rave on here about the same thing...and sometimes I wonder why....I guess I'm just passionate about music...actual music...just like you. My best friend and I were discussing the decline of music the other day...but we've got youtube, itunes, our cd/record collections (I found this album(in impeccable condition at that) at a 2nd hand store last year...now I need to get a turntable..which I haven't had in nearly 20 years...lol
@vivandav67 Amen! I'm lucky to still have a turntable, and lots of LP's and 45's. Matter of fact.....I think I'm gonna dust off the old Pink Floyd Dark Side of the Moon album and play it right now! lol! I'm lucky to have the CD of the Baby's and play it often too!
@coachhrothgar449 my husband and I have wondered if a lot of the music of our times would be a hit now....I tell him that it would probably be a hit today, if it was rap music....sad!!! Glad that we grew up at a time where musicians did write and sing with passion, soul and fun!!
I love the song more than that, my first real love. And I thought I was so grown up back then. And why is there no longer MUSIC like this in the world?
I adore this song since my childhood, inclusive in 1979... with this song I remember a pretty girl that I like her so much, but I was child and too shy.
I notice that there's a 16th note triplet part in the trombones that starts at 3:06.
Another great 70's song.
I wish that there was a radio station that would play NOTHING except the 1000 highest or longest charting songs from between January of 1969 and say September of 1979 or so.
I would listen to it more than 5 hours a day every single day of the year.
I love this song ... looks like 11 people got dumped while this song was playing, lol.

This is one of my all time favorites, a beautiful piece of music. Love the way it builds to a crescendo near the 3:00 minute mark.

This comment has received too many negative votes show
This is my favorite genre, but I definitely respected Nirvana & certain rap "songs" based on the originality of it all.
