  • This is a bogus approach and is much too prong to error .

  • Followed joeyalbergo's advice - the Free FLAC to MP3 Converter worked for me. I couldn't get this method to work. And even if I did get it to work - it would have taken hours to convert all my songs. The one i mentioned above will convert a song in seconds.

  • It works - you do have to restart the VLC Player - and I have the .mp3 extension in my target file so it works with it and without it appearently... Good Job - this guys knowledge helped me. Im doing two albums like this so I can throw them on my iPod - Thanks @NonSubmersibleUnits

  • didnt work, im on mac also...thanks though

  • Thanks a lot!!!!!!!!!!! It works!!!!!!!

  • Awesome sauce! Thanks SO much! ♥

The video was a little intimidating at first, but the process was not nearly as daunting. As far I have looked, this is the best (and ONLY) method for VLC that has worked so far.

  • ALL2MP3... I'm not a spammer or anything like that... I just found a better way to do this... Which is All2MP3. It's free and you can do multiple conversions at the same time. Peace, Love and in Axxo We Trust.

  • oh wait. it didn't convert the whole file

  • thanks! very helpful!

  • Thanks! Works great!

  • This isn't really useful until it can do a batch of files at once.

  • thx a lot man

  • I could kill this guy for the way he made this video. I mean seriously, wouldn't you just re-do the video when you saw how F'd up it was?

    Why would you publish this?

And the comments are just FILLED with pissed off people

  • this is a fucking useless video, u keep pausing the fucking thing its so annoying we can pause it ourselfs dickhead

  • this is crap i got over 400 flac files to convert, screw this...

  • Hi!

When I go to media, open file and choose the file I only get the option to 'open' and not 'play' as you do. Any idea whats wrong?

  • It worked. I love you.

  • My version of VLC was just a little bit different but it worked! Thanks!!

  • Hm. I follow the directions, but on the screen with the output format, in the drop down menu there is a bunch of numbers, not words... I might have a different version, which one is which?

  • Awesome, worked fine. Thanks!

  • Back out the view of the screen I cant see whats happening.

  • Skittish? its so damn fast i got seasick trying to follow it. SLOW DOWN!

  • how do i convert a vlc media file into a mp3 file? you know to play it with itunes?

  • I've tried a couple of different ways now and still can't suss it out :/

Foobar2k / Windows > all aren't working for me! Must try harder :)

  • clumsy! You have to play each file? confusing instrutions

  • One important thing is that you should change the bit rate of the MP3 file. The default is 128kpbs - which sucks.

On the Convert pop-up box, right next to where you select "Audio - MP3" from the drop down menu, there is a little icon with a wrench and a screwdriver in the form of an X. Press the button, go to the Audio Codec tab, and you can select the bit rate - 320kpbs of course!!!

  • Worked perfectly! Cheers!

  • excellent tutorial, worked like magic. Thx.

  • You need to close and re-open VLC for the setting changes to apply. Pretty important.

  • this messed up the volume on my vlc. i had to reset all settings. but my vlc is a newer version

  • Brilliant. Thanks. It works...

  • so how do you do this for a lot of music. not just one song?

  • @dh3684 one by one :)

  • @dh3684 CNET Downloads --- look up exactly this "Free FLAC to MP3 Converter"

Prepare to be amazed because you just drop the FLAC's in and outcome the MP3's - it's so fast it makes this VLC step look like a welfare case... lol

  • @dh3684 just check switch sound file converter plus, u just pick the file and it'll auto convert entire cd's into mp3

it's useless to go throug all this.. it's free anyways

  • this may work but say you need to convert a whole movie i cant wait for a whole two hour theres a progame called prism video converter that converts movies to many formats in only half and hour best to used this instead

  • Thanks, I needed to convert some FLACs to WAV to be burned onto an Audio CD.

  • Thanks I can play flac :D

  • Closing and re-opening VLC after each settings change worked for me on v1.1.4. I also chose WAV as the stream output.

  • thx it work

  • I try this 100 times and it doesnt work for me. When I go to Output modules and I add the output file, i never see the file... after I play it.

  • @pipecolus I don't really understand the problem but it sounds like you may be saving the file in some unintended place. Remember that the value you put in at 0:25 is a destination path, not just a title and extension. Or perhaps you missed the step at 0:20 (switching the output type).

  • @pipecolus I had the same problem you have to restart vlc after changing the output module then it works ^_^ Hope this helps, since your post is 11 months old now :P

  • @pipecolus I had the same issue until I did two things. I didn't put .mp3 at the end of the file name output and I also restarted VLC after making all the changes. It then started to play silent and output the first output file. From there conversion was easy.

  • @MaXThReAT awesome. wonder why it works when the mp3 extension is removed, when the guy who made the video explicitly recommended entering the extension?
