The patient probably touched rails, door knobs etc., before washing her hands. I guarantee you this is being done by a PA. Also, I'd never let a patient film anything - most malP insurance forbids it anyway - liability, patient could sue if not done right :)

I can not get over the none stop infection! What Aholes for saying there was nothing there! Can I ask if it was from an ingrown hair - shaving etc. or did it just pop up? Doctors are so stupid and useless sometimes..I've had to deal with them all my life and some are just so clueless. I've had cellulitis twice really bad (I get open abcess-type woulds that open up and get infected), and the second time almost killed me because they didn't get to it quick enough. I also had rotten infected puss-soaked packing left in one of my sores for over a week..I was so sick! They had cut it too short and it got lost in there and stayed in until a nurse found it one day

When dealing with an abscess such as this one, or a case where cellulitis has come into play, you never push or squeeze as a "method" of draining puss as you will only then push the puss/infection into the flesh. Then your're screwed and will need a picc line, Vanco, Maxip etc. The incision should have been at least 3/4 - 1.25 inch, suctioned, packed then changed twice a day to let it heal inside out. Partially text book

But you need to get them treated; when your body is trying hard to fight infection it takes a lot out of it that needs to be used for other important functions..if your body can't heal it it will eventually succumb to the infection and will let it take over. That's what happens when you get the flu - all the symptons and especially the high fever mean that your body is struggling to (to be continued...)

The worst is that leaving infected abscesses or similar things untreated can cause Cellulitis - a very serious condition where your skin gets infected underneath and spreads everywhere, it is fatal if it's not caught and treated on time. I've had it twice and almost lost my life because of it. I know it's scary and it hurts like hell to get the sores packed, but it only (to be continued...)

This is exactly how staph infections get spread in hospitals. You shouldnt have been touching that stuff...esp w your bare hands! This is how MRSA & Staph gets spread.

I'm a Paramedic for 20 yrs and that's the MOST drainage I have ever seen. That ER Doc is an idiot, not the first time an ER doc was an idiot. LOL That's why God made Paramedics and Nurses...to save doctors asses.
Wow. At least now I know what the hell that was I had under my arm a year ago that I had to drain myself, an abscess. This is exactly how staph infections get spread in hospitals. You shouldnt have been touching that stuff...esp w your bare hands! You prob wiped em off, then touched a doorknob, table or whatever on your way out. Staph STAYS on objects, it lives there. The next person to touch whr you touched....will end up w MRSA. This is how MRSA & Staph gets spread.

The fact that the docs told her there was nothing to drain is very disturbing to me. If she had listened and not sought out another doc, she could have died. I hope she persued legal action against the docs who wouldn't drain this thing. I am glad this nightmare is over for you hun. Take care and give an update!!

I'm a Paramedic for 20 yrs and that's the MOST drainage I have ever seen. That ER Doc is an idiot, not the first time an ER doc was an idiot. LOL That's why God made Paramedics and Nurses...to save doctors asses.

Wow. At least now I know what the hell that was I had under my arm a year ago that I had to drain myself, an abscess. It wasn't filled with a lot of blood like that but there was lots of puss, this chlorine smelling substance & chunks of "something" when I pushed it. It drained constantly for a week even after I got the majority of the stuff out. I wish I could have took it to the doctor but didn't have insurance at that time. Thank God for a job with benefits - we love BCBS! LOL!

What is so sad is that this young girl could have gotten very sick from this or worse, died from sepsis! The doc that said there was nothing to drain, they need to go back for another 4 years! An xray or soft tissue MRI or something would have seen this big pocket of pus in your thigh/leg and hip! I am glad you are doing better hun!
