@matt31602 Water is life. A little cliche but it is in fact true. Researchers have recently discovered living organisms forming in the snow/water of another planet. It's more like bacteria than intelligent life, this evidence does however prove life is possible on other planets. These tiny organisms could also evolve considering that's our theory for how life began on Earth. Unless you're christian.. then believe what you want.

And once you apply that to 40 light years, your going to see that it will take a beam of light traveling at 186,000 miles a second 40 years to get from that point to earth. @ninearthify True. Traveling at the speed of light is nearly impossible. So if we exclude that, and go to the highest technological advancements we have. It would take around 70,000 years just to get to our nearest star Proxima Centauri, which is 4 light years away. So imagine 40 light years. It would take millions of years to get there.
