Ugh - that horrible "cannon" snare drum - so common in the 1908's. These guys were all great musicians, though, and very helpful. I had the original book published for the first series.
This should be revamped and brought up to date for todays generation of musicians. It helped me out loads when I was learning to play guitar 23 year or so ago. I sure todays novice musos would find it just as helpful and hell id watch it. Never too old to learn something new.
They may not have been the best presenters in the world but, my god, could they play! Pretty much EVERY genre of music. I loved 'Rockschool'! I think it's time someone made an updated series with the same format. Even better - bring back the original muso's (Deirdre, Geoff, Henry etc.) to present it! You never know - their presenting skills may have gotten better. Lol! (:o)
When I was a kid I thought Dierdre Cartwright was not only a great guitar player but really cute! What a great show! Kids today should have a modern show like this. Thank you for posting this. Brings back great memories.
Great to see Rockschool again ... finally.. but, season 1 was SO much better... it gave you the basics that are timeless when it comes to foundation of rock and roll... Series 2 is very dated as it concentrates on the then "modern" techniques...
Google "rock school" - it's a music examination body in the UK based on rock and pop styles. My son's just done his Debut grade at Drums, and I was amazed to find the pieces he has to play along to are played by Deirdre, Alastair and Henry from this BBC RockSchool show from back in the day!
I only vaguely remember this, but watching it now, you realise how good it actually was. Plenty of gadget geekdom and real music for real musicians - no manufactured pop shit here. This episode is particularly appealing to synth anoraks like myself!
Extremely underrated series. This should be MANDATORY viewing for musicians starting out just as Preston Blair's Cartoon Animation is recommended for animators.
A lot of what's covered in Series 2 has been long forgotten, and boy are we paying for it today.
She said "Fingering" Too funny. Internet killed the Video Stars. More educators on TV please, I miss these guys.

Alastair Gavin and Henry (bassist) were the strong points of that band. Dierdre and Geoff (drummer) always seemed like marginal players.
I wonder what happened to Alastair... I googled him but couldn't find anything.
