They do play Australian Rules Football in the U.S, it just hasn't gotten a lot of exposure. You can watch it on TV too if you have Setanta Sports.
If enough people in North America demand that it be shown, a network such as ESPN will pick it up (ESPN used to show it, but stopped for some reason).
