You realize that you should not use a bow at close range, thats why you have a close range magic spell, also, you didn't have to open his cage, you could have shot him with your bow, arrows go right through cage bars.

You can't shoot through the bars in the 360 version.

I believe there is another way around, look on your dungeon map and see if there is another path or something. I believe its through the water i could be wrong though.
