  • @ kevensun242 , those are guides poles , tells driver where end of plow is . Just in case of low visibility

  • Love how they do that In Milwaukee Wisconsin!

  • Oh so that's why they have those arm things at the front of the truck.

  • WTF wgy does snowplows in ney york are garbage trucks???

  • King of all Blacks, is this you?

  • WHAT ? big apple take only this kind of trucks to remove snow on manhattan ?

  • @patmix Pretty much, they use the Sanitation trucks for every kind of streets here. And there are other places in NYC besides Manhattan yanno. :P

  • @giguchan Nah, though I suppose out in LI, snow blowers are as prevalent there as shovels are in the city. Jk, I have to say though, it does alleviate broken backs that's for sure.

  • Sad you guys have to use your garbage trucks to plow haha!

  • @giguchan Yeah this past "storm" was a bust, which was good since I didn't want to shovel anyway. Checking the weather now there's a bit coming our way, I guess I'll get to test out the snowblower this time.

  • @giguchan No problem. Luckily this time around, there isn't as much snowfall. We're slated for some this Tues in NYC and a bit of it fell an hour ago. Nothing apocalyptic though haha.

  • @giguchan No, this video happened back in 2007.

  • in jrz we use cement trucks to plow

  • Why do they garbage trucks to plow in the United States, that's just stupid.

  • @tobbzor

In large cities, there are a ton of streets to be plowed. If you think about it. The sanitation trucks need to go all over the city anyways to pick up garbage. Why not have them plow while they are doing that? Also, if the sanitation truck needs to get down a street that hasn't been plowed, how could they get down it if they don't have plows themselves?

  • Thats a really good idea. The bin lories are going round anyway. Much cheeper than the dedicated gritters we have over here

  • nyc has purpose built salt spreaders that onli come out in the snow..there orange tandem axle mack MR's...but i think there onli like 350 of them....there 1200 garbage trucks like the ones here in this video..and i must say DSNY get the street clear over night everytime....hats off to em...no matter wut the city is always a mess tho in the snow ! lol

  • True, very true. However during these past storms, did they come down your side streets? Because they totally missed mine and everyone was sliding down this narrow street.

  • yea they came eventually...id say they came once during the snow storm and once after.....the side streets always get last on the shit list lol i think they dont send out all the trucks because it gets expensive with overtime...specially knowing that theres more snow to come...so they focus on the main roads and leave side streets like ours snowed in lol thats why i got a truck...!

  • Haha you're lucky. People were trying so hard to peel out of the street only to find out that their tires were all snowed under. Oh well. Hopefully we won't experience such a blizzard next year.

  • agreed brother !

  • Nice little video. Those Mack's are unique to places like New York City. As for Burning Tirez' comment, it's a tandem axle garbage truck, not a purpose-built snowplow like PennDOT uses. These are designed to be manouverable on small side streets and tight city corners. PennDOT plows mainly interstates and county roads.

  • that truck is tiny . the penndot trucks here are 2x bigger

  • The small trucks get down the smaller streets.

  • @BurningTirez this is fucking new york not ur country side

  • @BurningTirez Your confusing size with power. The PennDOT trucks are most likely built on International or Sterling chassis (am I right?) most of which probably have about the same amount of power as these Macks. So while the plows in the rest of the country may look bigger, the chassis are actually quite similar except for the cabs and plow sizes.

  • Wow, now that's one bad ass snow plow!! Do you folks normally get alot of snow? It mostly rains in the winter where I live.

  • Sadly it snows quite a bit around here. But it doesn't quite measure up to Upstate NY. We usually get a bad storm once in a while, but we normally average around 1-2 feet just about. Then you have a bit of rainfall and it all then just turns to slush then ice. The DSNY usually gets rid of all main street's snow by the morning after so it's not all too bad.

  • If it snows around here it's usually a wet sloppy mess.

  • he for got the trash! 2 the point

  • Thats a good idea to use refuse trucks for plowing.

    Dual purpose trucks.

  • Awesome

  • I like those Mack Low Entry's that New York Uses! This video was really good quality and really is going to be a fav and 5 stars!

  • we need more dsny videos here on youtube.

    nice video

  • Where I live the county has it's own snowplow fleet...and our own fleet of garbage trucks. Yeah here in arlington, VA we like to waste our money. My tax dollars go to the county so they can cut down old (400 year old +)healthy trees, replace sidewalks that are in perfect condition, repave smooth roads leaving the bad roads untouched, take one lane of traffic away so they can have bike lanes that rarely get used, add median strips that we don't need, and overstaff the police force.its kinda scary

  • how does this get like 6thousand views, i have a video of us at the bus stop and a garbage truck, and its like 36 seconds not 13. it doesnt make sence.

  • I don't know, maybe Sanitation plowing a good foot or two of snow is more to the point than a 1/2 min video of someone just talking while the subject of your video is in the back? Long videos doesn't necessarily = more views. Short and to the point works most of the time.

Seriously though, this video's been up for 9 months, yours was up for 2 days. Views aren't going to jump up overnight.

By the way, thanks. I didn't know I had 6k views on this vid. Makes me want to brave the cold again.

  • Nice video. Keep 'em coming

  • Brings back memories of my time with the DSNY back in the eighties. Spend the whole 4-12 shift putting plows on trucks, keeping the heaters filled with kerosene, and sending the spreaders to pick up a load of salt.

  • So the sanitation dept. is also the snow plowing dept. - fancy that!

  • Yes, and they're quite efficient (especially on the main streets haha).

  • Awesome video... you should've added DSNY or garbage truck to the tags... I know a lot of people that would love to see this!

  • Yes, thanks for that tip, I've added the extra tags. I uploaded that video back when I first joined youtube so I wasn't too good w/tagging. Glad you enjoyed it, it is rather cool.

  • thanks for sharing
