  • to all the hip white dickheads from Fitzroy, Brunswick and Yarraville....check the clip at 1.25. THAT is how you wear a hat. Now take yours off, it looks silly.

  • @MrGuntherthecat Now I just need to find a video of a white guy wearing a baseball cap facing the right way without the label still on as a riposte...

  • the young R L BURNSIDE! ..... one of his sons looks exactly like this =)

  • Thanks for posting this nice video.

  • love this guy.

  • I wish the black man would of never left the Rockin Roll.

  • That was great to watch some wonderful history , oh how I wish I was there when he played that . Thanks for uploading .

  • John Mayer is a joke.

  • I was recently watching a vid of some MTV award show performance - can't remember who, and it doesn't matter cuz it sucked - and there was like a football field worth of space between the stage and the "front row" of the audience...and that space was filled with security guys and industry flunkies etc. A whole world of difference from standing in a room, surrounded by partiers a few feet away from you and playing the blues for them. Fans of good raw blues might like "Rosetta West - Suzie" btw

  • Now this is a definition of a party. A talented man with an amp and guitar, good friends, comfy sofas and a shitload of Budweiser

  • This might have been answered but what guitar is he playing?

  • @ethosyourbro In this video, I believe it's a Danelectro Silvertone 1452

  • @CatalinaSafari73 Hey great thanks.. Rock on!

  • Powerful and young R.L .^ ^ !! Beautiful and sensitive video.! At 1:17, a kingdom collapses or is based.... .. Thanks !

  • yeah

  • Zapwei

    Thanks for this.

I think you are right in that this version is in Spanish tuning rather than Open D or E, even though I believe he often recorded this song in Open D. The difficulty I'm having with this version is the right hand work, which is where RL's genius lies in my opinion. Oh well- more practice I guess!

  • @twangmeister Check out this track on the album "First Recordings". It was recorded in 1968 but released in 2003, you can hear clips on amazon. It will probably give us more insight, and it's easier to hear.

  • Wow! Just a man and a guitar performing for friends at a party. Music doesn't get more honest than that.

  • can someone put down the lyrycs?

  • @MadGuitarJunior

    Lyrics:

I'm going down south, the chilly wind don't blow.

You be my babe, I'll do anything you say.

    I don't want her loving no-one else.

I'd rather be dead, six feet in the ground.

There's some black man, always hanging around.

  • @zapwai

    thanks!

  • R L's music is so frustrating for guitar players!! Some versions of this song appear to be in Open D tuning, but I don't think this version is and yet I can't get it to sound right in Open G either. His fretting with his left hand looks too simple for standard tuning. This is without doubt my favourite version of this song of his, just wish I could figure out what tuning it's in and how he gets that hypnotic pulse. Has anyone out there had any success with working out this version?

  • @twangmeister Have you tried open G with a capo on the first fret? (He doesn't use the capo, but I've had some success with this.)

  • i love this video! he's such a bad ass!

  • This is great! Would love to see more of this video!

  • RL - your wonderful music and that beautiful smile are still lighting up this world : )

    Love always....RIP

  • I was at a party, and this broke out. Uh-huh.

  • Comment removed

  • i played it like 20 times hate the open ending xd

  • R L was the man

  • @100crawma he may be gone , but he still is the man !

  • Reminds me of Ali Farka Toure in this video: /watch?v=pX7ZXZykWoA&feature=related

  • Reminds me of Ali Farka Toure in this video: /watch?v=pX7ZXZykWoA&feature=related

  • ~~ love that smile on him ~~ classic get together good time being had....jealous me.

  • That's not T-Model Ford at :19. I forgot his name but I do know to his left is Alice Mae Burnside at 1:20

  • bad ass mothafucka !!!!

  • Anyone got a longer version of this video? would love to watch more of Burnside from this age

  • @MrLordshanks AlanLomaxArchive has some more videos of Burnside from this era.

  • @counterlucid cool story bro

  • @MrLordshanks go to youtube type his name and see the list.

  • i wish you would tell me where to buy a 10 dollar electric guitar. and why are you guys comparing R.L and John Mayer in the first place?

  • I'm pretty sure that's T-Model Ford at the :19 second mark with the white hat and his signature mustache, he's also in the picture at the :45 and :53 second marks with a guitar. Interesting because he claims to have not started playing guitar until his 70's. He sure as hell doesn't look like a 70 year old man.

  • this is the real thing.

  • John Mayer needs a seventy thousand dollar 1957 Strat to play blues - this guy kicks his ass with a 25 cent model out of the Sears catalogue. Real beats fake every time.

  • @webcityguy Soul can't be bought from a factory. Pre-CBS, Kalamazoo or Santa Cruz.

  • @counterlucid umad?

  • @counterlucid What they got in Santa Cruz?

  • @Barnekkid An acoustic guitar factory. Perhaps Nazareth would have been a better choice.

  • @webcityguy john mayer done sold his soul to the devil so he can get fancy 70,000$ guitars that do the same thing as a 10 dollar electric. 70,000$ can feed a few families for a year but a pretentious cocksucker like mayer don't care bout nobody but himself.

  • @webcityguy Nothin fake about john mayer. Anyone who plays and has that much money is going to buy nice shit. Sure he didnt start on that 57.

  • @webcityguy

well said my man-----Coolness is a commodity that you just can not buy Burnside is about as cool as it gets Mayer is about as lame as it gets

  • Please don't say John Mayer in the same sentence with R.L Burnside or blues. Just PLEASE don't do that. Have some respect man.

  • @webcityguy nobody needs a $70,000 guitar, but some people can afford it.

  • In heaven sittin' down.
