A extremely sad story, one that I personally have difficult understanding since I was never bullied. I can only imagine the anguish this poor young boy went though.

To combat bullying of this kind, my secondary school started a system in which those who were bullied could talk to 6th formers (year 12s and 13s), rather than teachers, as their is far less of a stigma attached to telling a fellow student than telling a teacher.

Though bullying seems to be slightly different here in the UK.

This poor kid, what he must have gone through to feel like he had to hang himself. What a tragedy.

There have to be criminal consequences for bullying or it's doubtful that it will stop. The laws must be changed NOW.

Simultaneously to getting the laws changed, other kids need to intervene, not be by-standers when someone is being bullied. Stand up to bullies no matter if you're the one being bullied.

My heart goes out to Cameron's parents.

I was bullied in grade school through high school because I was a little kid with a big mouth! I was partly to blame, but once it stated in was non stop for several years! Only in my senior year did it stop! All the stupid jocks would beat on me daily! There was no cyber bulling back then, but nevertheless my life was hell! I just saw this story on CBS NEWS and was horrified. PARENTS TAKE CONTROL OF YOUR KIDS AND TEACH THEM NOT TO BULLY OTHER KIDS ! Come on disipline starts at home. THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE AND WILL NOT BE TOLERATED !

In no way am I saying that 14 y/o Cameron Jacobsen was gay. Based on this piece, I don't know whether he was gay or straight. You can be sure, however, that being taunted as gay was probably part of the bullying, regardless of his sexual orientation. This story is part of a CBS special on Bullying, which airs today, Friday at 8p ET. My guess is that there will be gay contents.

@lgbtTV4 Does it make a difference? Really? People are bullied for all sorts of reasons.  It's wrong, no matter what the the circumstance. The real question is, why does anyone allow it? How can decent people stand by and watch someone be bullied? Peer pressure is a poor excuse. Everyone needs to stand up to these losers who find some kind of thrill in making others feel bad. The schools need to have ZERO tolerance for this... Society needs to have Zero tolerance for this.
