  • How did you guys know what you could upgrade this processor up to? Will any Socket P work that has a 800MHz FSB?

  • @Lakimoo Any socket P processor with an 800Mhz FSB will work. I've been swapping processors since 1995 ;)

  • Thank you for showing me how to take off the case. I installed an extra 2 gb of memory making it an even 4gb. Didn't know the cpu was upgradeable to a Core 2 Duo....icing on the cake. BONUS!!

  • MxChris187:

I upgraded the memory from 2gb to 4gb. The memory stick I installed is a used Samsung DDR3 PC3-8500 1066 MHz 204-pin RAM Module I got on eBay for less than $10 including shipping. You can buy one new if you want on eBay, or Amazon.com, your choice.

Am waiting for the "upgraded" CPU Intel Core 2 Duo T7500 which I also bought used on eBay. Estimated delivery to me is this Saturday - keeping my fingers crossed they don't send me one that's DOA.

    .

  • What make/model is the OEM RAM stick is in this machine?

I picked up one of these sealed in the box from Craigslist at $10 over the sale price and a CPU (T7500 for $15), I would like to add another stick of RAM. can someone post what's actually installed, model number, voltage etc.. If anyone has kept the OEM stick and added another stick of RAM to go up to 4GB can you please post what you used so I have an idea what to shop for.

I really only want to take it apart once. Thanks in advance!

  • Got the same laptop thanks to slickdeals, did same upgrade to mine but with a T4400 off ebay, either way was an excellent deal and is a very capable system with new proc. Yet to upgrade ram, I understand it handles up to 8GB with no issues. You freaked me out a bit by not removing the HSF unit entirely, as I cleaned the old paste off the bottom, but whatever works. My total cost was 211.10 so far. Nice video.

  • @blacklabelsk8erX I took the HSF completely on another laptop and had a lot of trouble getting the screw under that wire back in. The screw post is in such a way that makes it difficult to reinsert, so I just loosened it. The HSF actually didn't have any paste on it on the two that I did.

  • Thanks for the informative guide. For something like an office or normal web browsing, productivity and HD video use laptop this was a great deal. That CPU you got for $20 is more than 2x as fast as a dual-core Atom, and if you're willing to spend $13 more with free shipping you can get another quality Crucial 2GB RAM stick to get 4GB. All in all, for less than $235 you could have a great laptop if you jumped on that deal.

  • can you give us the specs for the duo core 2 processor you installed? am new in the notebook upgrade business and would like to get guidance on brand and where to buy 'em. Also, the 2gb memory that came with the machine - is that one 2gb chip? or 2 x 1gb chips?

your video is very helpful, since i was also thinking of expanding the memory to 4gb and couldn't figure out how to open the back cover until now. thanks.

  • @Kboyetu1 Sure...it's the Intel Core 2 Duo T6570.

It has 1 2GB chip and has one free memory slot.

  • can you pls let me know the processor details and where did you purchase it. Thanks
