the reason they are all together like that its breeding time the big one is the female and the smaller ones are the males they sometimes end up in huge balls all around 1 female and the fight is on thats why the female has scars on her from all the fighting they dont realy feed to much this time of year they have other things on there mind and its usually illegal to fish 4 them during breeding times

@doggy69247 You are right - that was a spawning time and I was actually filming spawning. What is strange that fact that in this country (Ireland) there are no restrictions on fishing during spawning/breeding time (any fish). Two years ago I even witnessed how Waterways were cutting weed exactly at that time and exactly where coarse fish spawn. I even made a video about that called 'Catch & release: who's killing fish in the Grand Canal'.

@RealPimpPlayaOGPimpC To film this I spent more than a month swimming (snorkeling) with the camera almost every day in one particular spot in L. Ennell, Ireland. Water was between +5C to +12C.

This is awesome footage! 4 pike hanging closely together!? Bumping off each other... Makes you wonder - are the small ones hanging with the bigger (presumably female) ones? Is this a nursery? What do we really know about pike? I know divers see them a lot in Stoney Cove in UK, and there was a pike DVD made there (haven't seen it). Were you at all wary of the pike? Were they ever more than curious like in the video?

@68Phaedrus Thank you Mark. They were not curious - they were spawning. That is the time when you can get very close to them (if you know how to do it and if you are lucky enough). I spent more than a month swimming almost every day to film that episode.
