  • Very mixed feelings about Hood. Personal valor in battle in a manner second to none- yet during late 1864 in Tennessee he was a man who had suffered unbelievable physical and emotional pain. I personally am a Federal to my very core, but so many brave and fine men were lost at Franklin and Nashville because that army was led like lambs to the slaughter. They deserved better- and yet I find it hard to personally "blame" Hood. He should have never led that army.

  • General Hood was one of the greatest Generals of the Confederacy until Jefferson Davis got it into his head to turn him into "Lee of the West". At Corps command level and Army command level Hood's deficiencies as a general became more obvious and it became clear that he was wholey unsuited to that level of command. He was, as Robert E. Lee said, brave, industrious and zealess on the field of battle but careless off and it was that carelessness that made him entirely unsuited to high command.

  • Interesting, good video.

Still, JB Hood was a sociopath, a lunatic, but that was typical of the Southern leaders. He justified slave rape and selling children, the torture and terrorizing and enslavement of millions, on the absurd logic that slavery was good for the slaves.

Yes he had an interesting life -- but so did Gobbles and Hitler. So did Stalin.

This man should be remembered for the horrors he promoted.

Thank God he was such a ditz and got so many rebels killed..

  • @CanteenKid How dare you! You are obviously dumb. This was an amazing man who cared for his people and family. He also happens to be a relative of mine.

  • Hood was a brave soldier, but he helped ruin the south. He and Lee both were sucking up to Davis so bad, they gladly got their men killed off by the many thousands to get in Davis good graces. At Gettysburg, Hood was vocal about how stupid Lee was. But then Hood did much the same things himself - because he was sucking up to Davis. Hood took over for Johnston - who was your best general, but didn't suck up Hood promptly got much of that Army wiped out
