The second piece is Dutilleux's Sonatine for flute and piano. It is beautilful but I wouldnt call it intense, Dutilleux has even denounced it (and most works from his early period) as it owes too much to Fauré.
Perhaps you mean the third piece. That is incredible! Such utter distruction. Love it. Does anyone know what it is?
Piccolo and clock duet is pretty clever too. Innovative, yet accessible :)
Emmanuel Pahud is, without a question, the best flutist alive. It was a question if it was Jean-pierre rampal or Pahud or Galway, but now rampal is dead, and galway's sound & vibration became somewhat strange and awkward. Pahud is amazing. My friend took lesson from him, once, at a masterclass, and i was there too, and that guy's sound is Big and Smoothe at the same time, which is real hard to do.

This stuff is intense, especially the second one! I've never heard anything like that before.
Its a great pleasure to listen to such talented flautists.

I highly recommend taking a masterclass with Mario Caroli; he's a real master on the Boulez Sonatine (0:50 - 1:13)
