I had two BX GTi's -- a standard 8V, then a (much rarer) 4x4. The first handled great and was nippy. The 4x4 was heavier but was better made and cornered limpet-fashion on its wide-ish alloys. I enjoyed Norwich-Bordeaux-and-back in it, but then got nervous about the delicate transmission's alleged risk of failure so swapped to a boringly reliable Xantia HDI SX for the last 8 years. Miss those BX's though...

Enfin bon, a la rigueur, Citroen n'a jamais eu grand intérêt pour moi. Mon ax n'est que pour dépanner. La voiture que j'aurai, Ca sera une petite Lancia delta intégrale de 91'. Les designers de Citroen des années 90 ont vraiment fait n'importe quoi. Heureusement qu'ils se rattrapent maintenant. Sinon, la Citroen qui était vraiment sympa, c'était la SM, avec son v6 masserait

@HDN630 Ouaip mais pour avoir eu les deux, l'ax n'est carrément pas confortable face a la BX et est aussi moche. Et pour avoir eu les deux en diesel, le TUD de l'ax est tout sauf fiable face au XUD de la BX

The peugeot 309 GTi is still the best GTi ever. But the BX is ain't bad neider.

Peugeot is not owener of citroen, they ''merge'' in a way in PSA group.

And BX is one of best made in 1980'is, with its desing and peformanse it was stuning. And it GTi was realy powerfull and could get match with even stronger cars!

The safety of the 306??? it has a good rating and mine also comes with drivers airbag, passenger airbag and also 2 x side airbags. The BX is made of extreemly thin metal, and as for the AX it's rated as one of the worst cars ever mad in terms of driver safety. in terms of size the 205 is much larger than an AX (I have driven both) and is definatly a fair comparison to the BX. go buy a 405 Mi16.

Unfortunately I was not quite able to comprehend your message, mca2k, but if you are suggesting that the Citroën BX 19 GTi is bad, I would like to disagree. As a matter of fact they are great cars, at least when compared to your Peugeot 306.

theyre poor and inferior thats why Citroen went bust mate and now who owns them hmmm... Peugeot? 306 Gti-6 is far better and a comparitive analysis of a vehicle out at the same time as the BX Gti would be the Peugeot 205 Gti, widely regarded and also refered to in this months 'Top Gear' magazine as 'The Greatest hot hatch of all time' but due to the fact that I need a reliable everyday vehicle I have my 306 which is better than both cars anyhow. rant over.

The 8 valve 19 GTi is obviously not as quick and can thus not be compared to a 306Gti-6 in terms of speed, but other than that it is a thoroughly good car.

The 306Gti-6 is also a smaller car, and although better in some ways it seriously lacks the space and comfort of the BX 19 GTi. The safety of the 306 has also been found lacking, even when compared to such a plastic car as this.

The 205 GTi is the better car for fun, which is quite obvious as the 205 1,9 GTi shares the same engine with the BX 19 GTi, but it is in quite another size class, more comparable to the Visa GTi or AX GT than the BX. In other words, it is just too small to make for a fair comparison.

I'm BTW a big Peugeot fan too, I was actually first looking for a 405 SRi when I found this, so don't take my comments on the 306 too harshly, it is miles better than many of its contemporary rivals anyway. :)
