"Singer of the moment" Renee has been around for many years, since the late 80's. I think people need to get over their bashing of Renee, the woman is magic! She has had a very long lasting career and has taken extremely good care of her gift! I am in awe

Wow- I am amazed at the harsh criticism of Fleming, Sills, and Te Kanawa! WOW- three of the best sopranos, EVER. I'd like to hear any of these critical superior people sing.... Renee sings effortlessly and with such beauty and grace. Brava!!!

She is the finest singer! Sills is good, but I guess it's just matter of taste. I like Renee's color much better for this piece.

I first heard Marieta's Lied by B Sills with her tiny little flattering unstable voice and had yawned like "what's that stupidity and where on earth are the staccati! for Sills without staccati was worth less than ...)

Then Kiri came, with a beautiful radiant top register, breathing problems and a low that was weak! but created a shadow image of this lied in my mind.

Then Renee came... this Lied became a unique masterpiece of Music in my Soul. One wonders is it Korngold or is it Fleming?

For me, Fleming is the soprano of the moment (a long moment). But I think you are perhaps a little unfair about Beverley Sills who does sing this rather effortless with her controlled silvery long phrases. I am glad we agree on Fleming.
