  • Too buggy, always seems to be some little thing that doesn't work quite as it should. The latest is with the address book. When composing a new email message I used to be able to select one of the people from the address book and it would insert their address into the "To" field. Now when I click on the button for it insert an address it does nothing, its just dead, and I am running the latest version. In short, it sucks.

  • But what is this program for? If i could just go to my e-mail page to look at my mail?

  • @MsBickle76 you dont need to have the browser open, it updates live without you looking, it has more features etc

  • new thunderbird it s easier

    user name :_____

    email :@

    password :______

    and start loading xD

  • Is this better than outlook and gmail? lol

  • thumbs up if mozilla rocks!!!!!!!

  • i prefer Mozilla Watersquirrel

  • @RockonStudio

yea, me to man. WaterSquirrel is the best...

  • @HappyRadio3000 ha ha ha lol

  • Just an observation: this video does not show viewers how to use Thunderbird. Rather, it shows users how to download, install and configure Thunderbird. Big difference and certainly not the same thing. Just sayin'

  • I don't use YPOPs. Yahoo now allow free POP-out and IMAPping for their customers, free or not.

  • Thunderbird is awesome, ThunderBird is a lot like FireFox. SeaMonkey is nothing like either of them.

  • thanks, very helpfull.

  • @gigafide Windows Live mail Client. It is a replacement like thing for outlook express

  • Well,I tried to log into my Google account on Thunderbird and it would not recognise my log in. Even though I gave the correct email address and password for my Google mail account. Andrea.

  • @andrea22borman Why have you did away with windows. your computer was working fine and dandy the whole time. All this extra weight you keep putting on here is probably why you are having so many problems on here. Andrea I have been on here the past 4 hours, cannot get ahold of you. Email means nothing. Too much is worser than having too little. Thanks for showing me, that it comes in a cold cold shoulder. Thanks alot mate.

  • hotmail?

  • I signed you up for 10 gay porn sites with that email.

  • Just so everyone knows, the new Thunderbird does everything automatically.. All you need is name, email and password... no need to tweak settigns.

  • is there something like thunderbird but different ?

  • I downloaded YPOPS but it said my user name and password is wrong

  • sigh cant g3et it to work, why the fuck ms outlook and thunderbird are there for ? as simple as reading emails or doing anything with them just use r own email omg...

    x_x...

i dont understand and its been years im trying to use it....omg T_T

  • Hi!

    nice tutorial.

can i add email addresses (for example, my university email) other than yahoo, gmail and hotmail? If yes then how?

  • I can not see any point to having this Thunderbird software as it seems complicated to use. It is easier just to use your existing G.mail or Hotmail account and just forward your emails to another email address that you have. Also you can on G. mail anyway, add another email address of your own that you want your emails sent to. So you can have emails from your Hotmail or Yahoo account for example sent to your G.mail address. At least that's what I would do. Andrea.

  • @andrea22borman Your right I think thunderbird is needless work. I"m curious if you use Aol, or Yahoo mail also. Out of all these Email services which ones do you like the best.

  • but can thunderbird be used as an e mail account?

  • those technical terms are so complicated.......... wth is IMAP, port, SMTP, SSL and stuff!!!?!!?!? i wished they had tutorial videos for thunderbird

  • fuck this shit. uninstalling this program, i hage tried to many times an yet it wont work

  • Do it let you notice your new emails. Sorry about my bad english.

  • thanks for this!

Ypops isnt compatible with mac ;(

  • after use yahoo mail on Mozilla Thunderbird

like a week it now says get some bad vibs what the hell?????

lol some help i use the webmail addon

  • What bout for Thunderbird 3?

  • an that's pretty much shit 0:49 lol

  • why doesn't yahoo work with thunderbird without that third party crap? ridiculous...

  • lets all dump outlook

  • @moonshiry i think outlook is way better! try windows live mail, much, much better in my opinion!

  • @Oliverlfc95 Yeah Outlook more powerful but you need to be a rocket scientist and certification courses to be able to use it. I much prefer just accessing mail from Gmail. But well, if i need a web client, i'll do open source first. Im very anti microsoft, except for some products like (windows, Visual studio). Why? I dont know. Maybe because too many people are using their products and paying like tonnes of money

  • @moonshiry nah i think iits easy to use once youve got used to it. I also dont really like microsoft that much except from windows etc.

  • @Oliverlfc95 Sweet your just like me then haha.

  • @moonshiry haha which bit?

  • @Oliverlfc95 the not liking microsoft part

  • what do you put in to the outgoing server

  • i get a problem when ever i put in the password it says time out from local host or something about the password not being able to be configured or somethign like that...anyone help??

  • Same with me, I think it has to do something with it saying Google mail instead of gmail

  • thank you so much!

  • Great job on the Thunderbird video! I dumped Outlook years ago for Gmail and Thunderbird. I just created a "how to" video on adding a signature file in your Thunderbird email client. I hope it helps other people.

  • i have a hotmail account on thunderbird and i can't send messages. Please help!

  • Yo Man Thanks

  • and what's the use of thunderbird?

why not just use a browser and log into one's email accoun?

  • he he he. i so agree with you. Thunderbird is kind of useless.

  • Why doesn't anybody talk about how to configure it for AOL??? >:(

  • how do you setup youtube

  • Thunderbird was not saving my new accounts every time I closed Thunderbird all my new accounts would be lost ?!

Uninstalling and re-Installing Thunderbird fixed this problem for me; I don't know if anyone else has experienced this problem.

I would re-download the installer from Mozilla

that's what I did, incase what was causing the problem was a bad installer download.

  • tnx a looooot u have been very healpful

  • nice video ! Very professionally done, the very best webcast on this subject on the net.

Yours is the best explaination I've heard anywhere.

Most of these webcasts have skipped or left out the fact that you need to enter an smtp server or software that acts as an smtp server to set up the yahoo account.

Now I know I can PROPERLY configure my accounts.

I'm sick of finding webcasts created by 9-year olds .... uhg

  • I Agree 100X Time.. but i am13 tough

  • After i install it it won't run

  • hotmail didnt work for me?

  • LOL Look for hotmail pops xD

  • Comment removed

  • you didnt watch the whole video

  • yeah, your right.

  • 127.0.0.1 is the exact same thing as localhost

  • nice tutorial but how do you download the hotmail folders ??

  • @labobo hotmail sucks, thats how

  • why cant i run the ypops after i installed it?

  • thnxx soo much!! it helped me a lot!

  • It doesnt connect for me, it finds my gmail account somehow, but since I don't give it my password, it never is able to give me my mail

how do I add in the password?

when I install Thunderbird, it does not proced through the steps you listed

  • thx dude that really helped!

  • Gmail FTW and Thanks!

  • with these type programs is there any way of having more then 1 email on it :s

  • Yes, you can set up all your Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail, etc accounts in Thunderbird. -- You can basically manage and steer all those accounts in Thunderbird.

  • Instead of using Thunderbird you all should try Yahoo! Zimbra (beta), it is very easy to install and it works great with almost any account!

  • nice video! it helped me a lot

  • Gigafide - what about the Thunderbird add-on "Webmail" --- why not use the extension Webmail instead of Ypops in order to use yahoo and hotmail? The tuts in youtube appear to recommend Webmail rather than Ypops (v=PtFNo__8md8).

  • uhm the thumbs downs are because people who rush to view videos and type in "first!" are morons

  • Indeed they are

  • i get an error saying enter a valid hostname what do i do??? and how do you setup aol mail

  • i prefer thunderbird portable (i still don't see the difference), which is great for the classic "shut down your computer with a cell phone" trick

  • sweet!

  • Thank you so much, I didn't know you could use thunderbird for hotmail.

  • what happened to yahoo setup?

  • what about for windows mail?

    and whats the outgoing server?

  • nvm about outgoing server

  • what do i put if it asks for an Out going server?

  • wow! sooo wasent expecting that! That really caught my by surprise there. Its a great video really catches your attention.

  • what if you have a mac and a yahoo acc, i dont think ypops is for mac any other suggestions?

  • Thanks! I didn't know this was possible with hotmail!

  • Been using this for about a year now and I swear never to use any email progs from MS ever again. Great prog great video.

  • i tried to set up my yahoo account in this and when i type in Localhost and click next i get the error saying that it is an invalid host name i have ypop running before i open thunderbird and i do have pop selected, any idea why its not working?

  • i don't know... why do you use this software when you can use the gmail or yahoo mail website.

  • Mozzila has its own zoo XD

  • What the hell? Is everyone supposed to be an expert on every program out there?

  • Haha! What n00b would need to know how to do this?

  • there are noobs in this world so yea

  • ddoodm what sort of crap comment is that.

  • ahhemmmmm im a n00b who needs to know who to do this. Unlike your inferiorness, i am capable of everthing BUTT this lol. Yum. BLARGOL FLARF!

  • Which one is better Thunderbird, Windows Live Mail, or Windows Mail.

  • wooww nicee man love ur vids keep em coming

maybe it will be cool if u make a vid on how to like watch tv on a computer that be cool

    thanks man

  • if i delete a message using thunder bird then go back to yahoo will it also be deleted on the site?

  • it gives u the option...like i showed u in the video. it will download them all to thunderbird and remove them off ur account unless u check the box to keep them on the internet. no offense, but my intention of creating a video w/ all this information in it was to prevent these questions.

  • cool

  • Hmm i would like to try this but would i get the same problem i had with outlook express? Basically i have Gmail and never delete a single email just archive them because of the massive storage they give you, because of this when i attempted to use outlook express it started downloading all my archived messages which would have took an age lol as i have about 4 years of email stored on there. Can you stop it downloading archived messages?

  • never mind

  • Will this work for Kubuntu? (Linux)

  • easier way than going to the mail website and log in and check ur inbox :D

  • nice - i did several videos on thunderbird, I LOVE this software!

  • thanks i have been trying to figure out how to get a yahoo account to work

  • niiice

  • Good tut - Daniel. I am kind of undecided though -- should I use the MS Office Outlook or Thunderbird? You haven't given any reason as to why we should choose Thunderbird over the default MS Office Outlook. Is it lightweight? If so, will I be able to remove the MS Office Outlook - can't have them both using up space in my computer?

  • my reason for using thunderbird is the same for the reason i use all the software i feature...it's free. outlook is just as good if not better, so it's up to u.

  • Sure - but if I use MS Outlook in Win XP or Evolution in Ubuntu (both come as default), I'm using up extra space here -- with Evolution, Okay, I can easily remove it in Synaptic or Add/Remove. But with MS Outlook, a different story - unless you show us how to get rid of it. Appreciate your trying to help with all the free apps.

  • outlook express comes default with xp, but not ms outlook. this is much better than outlook express. i don't know why u feel the need to uninstall it, though. and since ur talking about different platforms, thunderbird is the only one that supports all platforms. it also has a portable version that u can put on a thumbdrive. so if u wanted standardization over multiple computers, then this would be ur best option.

  • Yes Daniel - you are right -forgot. The default ->Outlook Express. I had to use the extra MS Office 2003 cd to get the MS Outlook. But now you give me a strong reason to use Thunderbird -- PORTABILITY. Thanks.

  • mine asks for a outgoing server?

  • it says video is no longer available

  • youtube glitch. it's available now.

  • Nice video!

  • It's Mozilla Not Mooozilla. =|
