  • Christina always gives a great vocal but she either oversings this or I dont like the arrangement. In any case, like most songs I hear after hearing a Whitney in her prime perform them, no other artist can even begin to touch it with the vocal virtuosity of Whitney for me.

  • @elarinque I'm a singer myself!! not a fan of aguilera though.. as in my personal opinion, she is too throaty for my taste!!! that said... she knows how to sing, and have make her own personal tecnique of singing, making her throaty voice her trademark!!! Whitney was a smart singer, and one of the greatest, but aguilera's voice, being a lot lighter than whitney's let her use and add much more virtuosity!!

  • Wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • What an extraordinary woman..

  • Jesse Campbell's version and Whitney's version are the best to me...and then Beyonce's...but this is just so emotionally diconnected....and to sing this song you need emotion...almost a sadness or mellow feeling

  • christina not christi

  • She needs to stop overkilling amazing songs like this.

  • @Womenizer19 TRUE!

  • I know, I felt bad saying that too, but I get what you're saying...o well :)

  • Her voice is absolutely beautiful. :) she's so talented, but there's something about this performance that doesn't connect. i just can't feel the emotion... it's a shame...

Ray Charles does this song best... my personal opinion! when he does it, my heart just wrenches. Christina brings the beauty of voice in this song,... but I feel that Ray brings forth a beauty of soul. I suggest you all check his out.

  • @SavingSmilesForYou i agree, and I like Ray's version too...but I love listening to her voice. well i hate to say that she comes off as a bit fake and full of herself so for me that's what kills it a little, though i do love christina aguilera and listen to her a lot!

  • @misskoool: It sounds like an awful accusation... but I think I have to agree. She sounds great but... the essence of this song isn't confidence. I think it's pain. The song is about a person who holds a lot of regret, looking back on a pretty long past. The song is more fragile and gentle. But I guess she can sing it however she feels, but I think the core of it was kind of lost. I guess you can say it was fake... i felt no sincerity... just showing off vocal range really. :(

  • Elliott Yamin is better. But I love that !

  • and thats the art of balancing the mic with variation in pitch.....years of practis..lol :)

  • Christina is my absolute favorite and I've been a huge fan since she first came out, but honestly there are parts here when i can't understand the words and she's shaky (on purpose). but she's amazing without a doubt and i love her!!

  • her voice always gives me the chills!

  • donnie hathaway? I thought it was leon russel...I guess i could be wrong...i mean i have been b4...actually I usually am. But nonetheless, I prefer leon russel to all of these other names....early 70's kick asss.

  • are you sure thats live? i mean she can't sing the same volume when she's moving the mic that much

  • 2:27 goosebumps! :o

  • La mejor interpretación... desde mi punto de vista... aunque witnety lo hace muy bien...

  • donny hathaway is the original artist

  • This is good but

Elliott Yamin sings it better :]

  • stellar voice as always but gotta give to ray charles for this one. just unreal

  • the BEST vocalist EVER!

    ily Christina!

  • I LOve You Christina...Herbie know that she iz, all that and more!

  • i love that xtina can sing as many notes of herbie can play ha ha love this song

  • Did he call her Christin Anguilera? Wtf??

Whatever, the song is so amazing! I've been listening to this the whole day now can't hear anything else! She is so incredible!

  • yeah, Anguilera :D :D (what the hell did he think... who knows...)

  • i really apreciate cristina singing this song.. but something wasn´t right in this live perfomance. diferently from the CD, this version is hard to listen. looks like she´s tired.

  • yeah you got it x tina !!!

    great..

  • like it... but michael buble does a great job!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.. and karen carpenter stays the best

  • I love her voice, the thing is I wouldnt stand a whole CD tracking list with this voice tone... even though the voice is amazing....

  • i love this song, i love christina but i dont really like this version

    its....messy :|

  • i like her version! she is singing the damn song, the best she can!

    Go get em christina!!

  • Christina is good, but whitney houston´s version on 1991 welcome heroes performance, is much much better.

  • The BEST version is by Pipaz . He just sings it from the heart. Truly amazing.

  • This vid is kind of insulting to Herbie Hancock. It's titled Xtina, but it's actually Hancock ft her.

  • whitney version is BEST ... check it out

  • Wish I had her voice.

  • Heck yea me too.luv her:)

  • she nailed it 100%. Christina rocks

  • lol, i thought christina aguilera was tall, but shes only 5`2

? i guess, lol,but still shes my ultimate idol!

  • Leno totally called her Christine lol

Nobody will ever do it as well as Donny I love Christina tho

  • Donny Hathaway is better. But that's because that man had pain and it came through his voice.

Not that Christina is bad. She's great. She just doesn't have the same soul to her voice in my opinion. And the nasal sound of her voice also bugs me a little, and a lil too much flare hahaha

  • This girl can sing anything and sound amazing she has the best voice next to Mariah Carey

  • Its not really the matter of which is better and which is possibly worse, its just that there are just different style and versions of the song, and frankly i lyk all versions in a different way

  • I couldn't have said it better myself. I like the Carpenters version for it's simplicity and Whitney's version for its peppyness, and this one for it's bluesiness. I don't think anyone does it better than the other.

  • Herbie & the band are great - as expected but so is Christina! She absolutely nails this song and pours her heart out in the process! A brilliant performance!!

  • Carpenters do this 10x better

  • To Jazzy. Took away from the song.

  • No its not the jazz - its her way of singing it (which is not jazzy). This song ought to be a ballad with long notes and less impro runs. She needs to be calm to sing it - and to sing it calmly. This way you just get stressed up.

  • I totally agree! I love love love christina personally, but I think she did too much with it. I wish I could find a recording of her doing this with less improv.

  • thats a hard song to sing!

  • Did anyone want to mention that Herbie Hancock was playing also....Jesus!!!

  • i am grateful that that sloppy ass boob job of hers didn't affect her amazing vocals.

  • SuperRav3n,

I think you need to get YOUR facts straight, moron! The original singer/songwriter was Leon Russell. Donny's version couldn't hold a candle to the original...no way, no how!

  • Are you serious? Donny's verion was FAR better than Leon's.

  • yes...i am serious. donnie's version was a great version, but the singer/songwriter who performed it first...leon russell...poured his heart, his soul, and his vocals into it. it was his song, afterall.

  • its horribble!!!!

  • that was a really nice singing

but i just love the orginal one better

(i'm not hating, she is good)

  • You should listen ARETHA's version. Just UNIQUE!

  • @ tharealnazim And what is the original? Do you really know? Or do you assume? Just wondering.

  • donnie hathaway is the original one.

  • perhaps you should google that, sweetie

  • A Song for You" is a 1970 song written and originally performed by rock singer-songwriter Leon Russell. A slow, pained plea for forgiveness from an estranged lover, the tune is one of Russell's best-known songs.

Donny Hathaway's 1971 recording is today considered one of his signature songs, even though the song was a cover and the single never made the Billboard charts.

    wikipedia

and when i said original one, i meant the version i liked more

  • Ooooh, when you said "original one" you actually meant something completely different by that, not the real "original one" (Leon Russell) but "another one that you liked more" (Donny Hathaway). See my problem is I read what you typed instead of what your were thinking in your head. (Only I obviously knew what was in your head too.) Anyway, now YOU know who the "original one" truly is. Which was my only point. As for what you meant, that is both obvious and pointless.

  • sorry to disapoint u but the ORIGINAL one...was by leon russel....but the best known version is donny hathaway's...;)

  • Keep 2 yr pop,yr timing sucks. Leave this 2 those with real Soul,please.....

  • no doubt that she can sing, but i hate the over extended wording she does i think its ok but ive heard better

  • Not the best interpretation of hers. I appreciate her scale and vocal skills but her voice does not matches well with the song, these two things seem to live their own life.

  • the best singer in the world, the best voice ever, i love her.

  • much better than the performance on ellen. she didnt go crazy with the inflexions, so that made the song easier to understand. she rocks anyway.

  • So many jealous hatersss...... get a life.

    SUCH AN AMAZING PERFORMANCE!!!!

  • 3:30 XD

  • you yhave 2 pull the mic away when u hit lounder and high notes. so it doesnt sound distorted and its the same volume and blends in to the rest of the song

  • I think it's quite stylish, and it's her style of singing, thumbs up for that.

  • Jessica :) It's how she sings, and Maybe she can't control her voice, she's much farther than you are in her carrer.

  • it appears she is stuggling on this one; you can tell her voice is raspy or straining; i have heard much better versions like on Ellen and the Grammy's. She is still good; but it looks like she is hurting.

  • Beautiful!!!

  • she´s the one&only

  • love you christina!!

  • what note is it at 2:28? can somebody tell me please! thx

  • Es ist wunderschön!!!: ) wonderfull..

  • Leon Jackson's version of this is amazing! It's so simple yet incredible.

  • Christina is amazing in every ways, but I believe Elliot Yamin's version of this song is better. I like the tone of his voice, cause with Christina, you get much of same stuff over and over again.

    Greetings from Rasmus in Sweden.

  • She's perfect!!!

  • I love you in a place where there's no space or time....

  • He call her "ChristINE Aguilera" AAAAARGH!!!!!!

  • i know!

  • I looooooooveeeeee her!

  • i am in love with yet jealous of her voice! she's A M A Z I N G[truly gifted]...i love this song too, the guy who originally sang it committed suicide back in the day, so sad...it almost sounds like his goodbye...

  • Leon Russell did NOT commit suicide, in fact, he's still very much alive and making music. Why do you make up such things and post them?

  • no one made up any lies, the original singer's name is donnie hathaway and yes he did commit suicide. so before you go making comments thinking you know so much maybe you should check your own facts

  • Someone has already corrected you, but you may not have seen it as they didn't reply directly to your comment. You are young and I will forgive your ignorance, but you should not come at people with rude lines like "check your own facts" especially when yours are wrong. Donny Hathaway was not the original singer. His version was a cover. As stated, the original singer is Leon Russell and he wrote the song as well. When you say "original singer committed suicide" you are disparaging Leon Russell

  • Beautiful; I so love her.

  • herpie hancock??? hehe.

    GREAT performance.

  • Hater

  • the only thing she destroyed was her hair shaking the head ah ah ah ah

  • OMG!!! 2:27 is crazy great!!! She is amazing!!!!

  • look how far away the microphone was from her while she did that....that is just crazy!!!

  • Awh She's like David Archuleta, she licks her lips when she sings :)

    She's great!

  • pero que bien canta !! madre mia!!!

  • this is the true talent she's just great i love christina and let the haters say waht they wanna say i love ya go girl i cant wait the next material

  • HeY fat...!!! Its Christina aguilera...!!! noT Christine Aguilera...!!! lol

  • Where was that?

  • did i make wrong sense or i do really heard the host said "Christine" Aguilera???

  • ♥ ♥ I LOVE this version ♥ ♥ :D

    she's the best singin' this

  • Christina you go!

  • she is amazing...check out Elliot Yamin's version of Donny's song...its good

  • BreathTaking..!!!! she's just so fucking amazing!!!

  • beautiful!!

  • soulful !!!!!!!!

  • in my opinion Ray's version is the most soulful.but Christina's version is just wonderful!so soulful for white lady!really talented girl who blows

  • grammy performance was the best imo.

  • leon russell wrote and sang it first

  • I love Donny's version better, but i like the way she sung it.

  • i think Ray Charles sang it the best..with more soul atleast!

  • i like the ellen degeneres show version better!

    i love christina i support u !!!

  • Who orginally sang this song ? I think cher sang this song once.

  • Donny Hathaway originally sang this song

  • Leon Russell

  • Donny Hathaway

  • questo e stile

  • why he say her name wrong lol....I like how she an sings songs so over the top...and sing some songs and keep it very simple

  • yes this is the best live performance of this song.. i totally agree..

  • yeah she needs to get a better appreciation for simplicity. Though I know that she aims to shock people with her vocal gymnastics which are always impressive. There is something to be said for subtlety in classic songs like this.

  • Love it!!!

  • i like the ellen degeneres show version better!

i think that version is utterly amazing - her voice is better and the notes are more controlled. its breathtaking.

  • I love you Christina. I think your voice is great the best!

  • I LOVE HER !

  • Kristin Aguilera? He could not even get her name right.

  • lol.. thats so true

  • I love this song. My grandpa loves Leon Russel's version and for a modern day music person like me, I prefer Aguilera's version. Very powerful voice!!

  • she begin the song very wonderfully somewhere in the middle she just went crazy i mean her notes were all over the place, dont get me wrong my girl can sing, i just wasnt feeling this performance

  • Christina has a style, she sticks with her style singing with Herbie Hancock or with Rick Martin. That's why I love her, she got a strong personality.

I'm sure many people tried to make her to change, trying to make her to be more controlled, but she always knew who she was. She is wonderful.

  • Thank you thank you thank you!!!

  • amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
