My dad is a profesional coon hunter, and i also remember riding down the road listening to jerry,my uncle is pasted away and thats one of gretest memories of uncle johnny was hearing say "knock him out John"
I'm 45 & I got to meet Jerry when I was 16 at sutherlands in Huntsville Al. he was autographing yardsticks. He was standing there by himself so I got to talk to him. After a minute or so people started coming up to him so I left. Forgot to get his autograph...he was a very big man & I can see why he played football when he was younger. FYI Zig Ziglar is also from Yazoo City, Mississippi.
I remember setting around the campsite when I was about 7 or 8 listening to these stories. My cousin Terry you to pop the tapes in the radios and we would listen to Jerry over and over. And we even call my brother Newgene (his middle name is Eugene).
That is stories like that my Uncles would tell. Proud to be a son of the South! Memories of those stories are priceless! The funny part...as outlandish as some of these stories sounded, in the years following, I found out they were very true....factual...not fictional! You've got to love the South!
Jerry is an all time classic. From fertilzer salesman to International Celebrity. Man what a tale! I met him in 1989 just outside of Memphis, and he was a genuine in person as he is on tape. A true southern gentleman. Stupid me, though, I didn't get his autograph. But just having that memory of meeting an icon from my youth was enough for me.
My grandfather grew up in Liberty Mississippi in the 1920s and 30s and he swore up and down to me before his death that he never remembered no Ledbetters. Must be a cover name for another family.
thanks for letting jerry still survive here for millions i'm 28 and remember listening to jerry with my grandfather and i hope he will still be here for my kids to here years from now we dont have good clean comedy like this anymore and i'm sure jerry lived most of the stories he told....thank you bear cloud and thank you jerry rip may you make god laugh as you have all of us.....Ghost
I saw Mr. Clower live many years ago with my Mom when he opened for Loretta Lynn & Conway Twitty... My Grandaddy bred and raised his own hunting dogs so i could relate to many of Jerry's stories. This was by far my favorite story. Thanks for posting.
this is one of the first Jerry Clower stories that I heard. an all-night radio show back in the 1990's played this and I loved listening to Jerry tell the story.
I use to listen to Jerry with my dad & haven't heard these since he died... Boy what a gem! Thanks Youtube & Thank you Jerry Clower!
