why are people complaining about the abstractness of his build when he clearly: 1.was US national champ 2.was at worlds 3. knows how to set up a deck most likely better than most people 4. is most likely sponsored to get the cards he wants/ needs for this deck, so really it doesn't matter how he formats his deck as long as he is kicking ass with it.
I love how every aggro' deck I've ever played has destroyed Solar Flare, as long as you can kill them before they get a Grave Titan in the yard, you pretty much win.
Solar flare is good but it has two weaknesses. 1). It is the slowest clock in the meta. 2) it is super easy to hate. Just surgical in response and they rollover and die.
@kyo717 Timely is mainly for mono-R; he might bring it in against GW Tokens, Wu Humans, or mono-U Illusions. Not sure about those, though. Wring Flesh comes in against all of those.
I'm glad to see someone defying the Sun Titan paradigm and playing a 6-drop that has more board impact. The reason to play Solar Flare is really more like adding Day to UB control and giving it a better way to come back from being behind.
@IthilanorStPete Well, obviously there's more differences between Solar Flare, and white adds more than just Day. To generalize: Solar Flare has most of the draw-go ability from UB, while being able to better take control of the board via Day, good fatties, and Unburial Rites. You also can take better advantage of Liliana due to having more synergy with her, which is nice and all.
I'm just surprised with no Sun Titan. He's been the cornerstone of Solar Flare since it's inception this format so it's pretty strange to see a list without it...
@Lazris59 I thought the Sun Titan - Image - Image - Image - Image - Image - Liliana combo was what made Flare so special =\ Getting the nuts on an EoT Alchemy into Rites, Titan, Image, O-Ring/Image/Liliana is soooo awesome. Not to mention Sun Titan can instantly revive your board with 1 to 2 images in the yard. It's silly not to run him haha
@narutozrasengan There's not enough targets for the Sun Titan's "enters the battlefield" ability to make it worth putting in main deck. Besides the basic lands and non-basic lands there's only 3 cards it can target in the main deck: 1 Phantasmal Image, 2 Snapcaster Mage. Even after he sideboards there's only 5 more cards the Sun Titan can get: 3 Mirran Crusader, 2 Ratchet Bomb. And I'd bet the Image and Snappy get sideboarded out for the 3 Mirrian Crusader.
@WildTiger420XX Huh? One of the points to running all of those cards is to be able to toss them into the yard with Alchemy, then re-buy them with Sun Titan. (Like O-Ring, Image, etc) Besides, he has wayyy more targets than you mentioned. Liliana, O-Ring, Mirran Crusader, Ghost Quarter, Ratchet Bomb, Snapcaster, Drownyard and Image. Have you ever had the rocket launcher that is recurring GQ blowing up their nonbasics. Or getting back Ratchet Bomb to wreck tokens? Letting Liliana die then recur?
@narutozrasengan What "Whaaa?"? Everybody just played the sun titan combo which got sweeped out with one day of judgment or just got pwned by the token flyers, so replacing it with one lesh norn and one rune-scarred demon is pretty reasonable. I play Solar flare myself and I also don't find playing Sun titan the best choice, however it might be considerable with a different metagame.
@repotip1 Lol. The degenerate combo that was Sun Titan and Phantasmal Image was the best move Solar Flare had. Yeah, they DoJ the board, then you flashback Unburial Rites for Sun Titan and get your whole board back.. Rune-Scarred certainly doesn't stop that, outside of fetching a Dissipate or something. And Elesh Norn was already in Solar Flare lists. So I don't see your point.
@repotip1 I don't know if this is just me, but i personally run 1 fiend hunter just so i can go sun titan, image, fiend hunter exiling titan, immune to board wipe.

Where the hell is sun titan? Why only one o ring? And only one image?
I play a different Solar Flare apparently...
Also i wish this deck was still as powerful as it used to be. :(

@narutozrasengan I thought the same. It can be so much card advantage getting back snapcaster, oblivion ring or phantasmal image!
