the bass player is Sam Bolle he plays for a surf band called slacktone and used to play for agent orange dicks son never played bass for him he has played guitar with his dad at shows and has drummed for a few songs that is all now he is the drummer for a up and coming band called forever came calling
LMAO....These German dudes can only be thinking one thang...."What is this friggin dude be all about"??...don't have a clue, but, I like it!!.....Surfs Up!!
a staggering combo of incredible technique and musical creativity, i think there is really NO NAME for what exactly he does. the melody and chording is deeply gratifying, and the screams of the instrument really cut to the desire to dance wildly!
he is the first he basically started the whole surf culture and punk surfers were basically the first group of anti establishment people after the world war 2 era before hippies and were basically what punks derived from and people such as Jan and Dean the members of the beach boys ventures and surfaris used to go watch his shows live before those bands ever existed and so did Jimi Hendrix before he got famous he used to stick around after shows asking Dick questions trying to learn from him
Maybe. A lot of people feel Dale is the first surf rocker...but then again he was riding Duane Eddys coat tails in sound if not in style. Certainly there is plenty of connective tissue shared by Duane Eddys music and Dick Dales...
Based on what? All my original vynl of Dale was 1961 (a single) and albums starting in 1962... Plus I haven't seen much in the way of his fame much prior to this. Duane Eddy, by comparison was on the national music charts as early as 1958. I even own an interview where Dale himself talks about Duane Eddy as an influence. Now personally I prefer Dick Dale, a lot more fun, a lot less country. But surf didn't just "happen" it was an off shoot of instrumental rock...
There's a video here on YouTube where Dick says himself he started the surf sound in 55-57 (he doesn't remember exactly). You could point out some similarities between Dick and Duane like Dick's reverb and Duane's. Duane wanted a "big" sound while Dick just wanted to sustain his guitar notes. Duane was lucky in that he got noticed first so you could easily make the assumption that Duane was a big influence, but he probably was just a minor influence.
Well I don't know about you but I am leary of any artist, cool or not, who thinks they created a sound and everyone else is a copy. Duane Eddy had his sound, Santo and Johny had theres, The Centurions had theres, and the whole slew of Bay Area acts had theres. Not all were Dick Dale copy-cats and it is likely that when, for instance, The Centurions Started playin' in like 1956 that Dick Dale was not already god o' surf and that they probably hadn't even heard him to imitate him.
Well you may be right, however like I said he may have started playing in '55, which would be a year ahead of The Centurions. In that year they could have heard of him and made music influenced by him. We would have to talk to The Centurions' band members and all those other Bay Area bands to know for sure.
True. When I hear artists, any artists, talk about "creating" a style I really feel I have to take it with a grain of salt. Nothing happens in a vacum. DD, DE may have heard each other and been influenced by each other, evolving a style. I know when D.E talks it is more about Chet Atkins and Les Paul and certainly as he evolved it went from instrumental rock to more and more country. D.D...while awesome....didn't really evolve as an artist. He seems to play a lot of the same stuff....
i completely agree. the only time i ever here about him is from my friends, n they refer to it as ' that one song from pulp fiction' . they just dont know what theyre missing

He is definately using a lefty Strat. IDK about his strings. Maybe he learned on a right handed guitar and can`t change his ways. This is a lefty.

when you've abandoned chord structures, traditional stringing is pointless
