well it's over now, they had 3 seasons of Idol, and then we had X-Factor and now there is a show called Bandið hans Bubba, (Bubbi's band) which is kind of like the Rockstar shows from CBS rockers sing for a band, the nation votes (we get 10 minutes to vote lol) then Bubbi decides who leaves of the bottom 2.
But I think a good idea is something that can be taken to good use elsewhere too, I mean, we are finding talent, having fun, etc.. And.. umm.. wasn't idol British originally? lol
Yeah, American idol is based on the original British "Pop Idol" :) only American Idol is the most watched or noticed one I think, I watch it lol.. been watching it since season 2 :)

Now X-Factor is huge in U.K. Americans tend to think everything starts in the United States and moves to other countries. Currently there are over 50 versions in 110 countries. Example AU Idol,Canadian Idol, South Africa Idol, Star King Korea and Nouvelle Star (New Star) for France. Yeah it's crazy.
In the Spanish Countries you can see Star Academy (Operación Triunfo) is like an Idol, but different, and is done before any Idol of any country. USA never is the first in anything.
yes, mundu mig/total eclypse of a heart is very similar, i think i translated her version some time.. i must have it on my pc.. can search and send if i find it if you want :)
