@kjaem24 PLEASE can you tell me exactly what settings and efect knobs and how much for each dial i need to get sweet child of mine sounding so good like that!!!
I have this amp. It really is a great amp, simply amazing how it sounds for its size. HOWEVER as a blues player it makes me cringe sometimes because it's not the reverb I want out of it. Not that twangy reverb you know? I wasn't expecting some amazing sounding reverb of an amp that cost 120 euros though.
Apart from that, the overdrive isn't too shabby but i'd say use a pedal on clean channel because it'll sound much better.
The Roland 20W (or 20XL) has an extreme setting, Heavy Octave, Spring Reverb and weighs almost 20 pounds while the Roland 20X has Tube Drive and weighs almost 16 pounds.
@reece4812 you get a heavier distortion than any amp can push out and you can switch directly from clean to distorted just by pressing the button with your foot there great man that way you can find a nice clean sound from the amp, play an acoustic part then press the foot pedal for instant distortion rather than bending down and switching it manually with your hand. many famous musicians use them another benefit is they make your amp louder if u want cuz theres a volume on the pedal too
as an owner of this amp i can honestly say... AMAZING clean sound... but unless you only use that its not the best. The built in distortion channels are not that great (overdrive is horrible). If you use distortion over clean, it should be great though.
@pablogvieira i'm going to buy a 30x... for little shows and for training, i think the 20x is good but for a show , for me.. is a little low.. i prefer the 30x
@instantdeath99 Depends i guess, do you mean buy another cube 20 or you mean a totally different amp ?
I've got a few amps and i guess really they are all used in different situations, i don't have the 20x i just have the micro cube which is great for taking around my friends house and jamming but at home i rock through a head.
@buffalo4321able We are looking at a Roland Cube amp, Marshall does not have anything even close to Roland in this Watt range. Across a broader spectrum, both companies have some pretty good amps. You're making too big a deal out of this. Just chill and stop pestering people. Not everyone is going to agree with you in this world so deal with it.
@hhvolfan not true. In smaller solid state combos, roland beats marshalls, but in tubes (not even sure roland makes them ) but those from marshall are better than roland.
@bartek127 the roland buddy, the marshall mg sucks my mate has it the gain is also pretty weak on it the cube is brilliant, played it lots of times in my local guitar shop am buying one very soon
i have a question. i have one of these, and i really like the effects that the "lead" guitar has, but if i want to switch from lead to clean while playing, then i can't really do so cause there's isn't a footswitch, i have some pedals, but is there a pedal that links with the amp or anything so i can switch from...well i think you get the idea, please reply. thanks alot! (some specific examples would be nice)
looks like my really got better with the time and I don't really like much the disto on it. The clean and less dirty is still really good for me. It just miss the feel of a good tube amp. It is still one serious kick ass practice amp for the buck.
@hamelkarl your looking at the wrong reviews if you want a tube amp.. whats up with all the people always complaining its not a tube amp.. if you want tube then go pay an extra 1000$ for it and youll be happy
@MolsonEx1903 You doesn't always have to pay 1000$ to have a good tube amps. There's a lot's of good used tube amps everywhere for like 450$ and 500$ that are far better than this roland cube. Roland did put a noise gate for the distortion and it really kill the good distortion tone. That's what I was talking about. The speaker is also not that good. It's still possible to use a cab out and get a better sound. I find it very hard to get a good blues or heavy metal tones. Even with a pedal...
Here's what I got. use the bridge pickup with tone turned down to like 3 on the guitar. Then select the Tube Drive distortion mode with gain on 3. Make bass and mid around 7 and treble around 5 (this is out of 10, so halfway). Add a little reverb if you want. BTW to get chili peppers tone you really just need to have a strat and you're set.
i have this one and the 30x both kickass but the 20 has more of a metal tone to my ears..........gotta give this amp its props tho its sounds three times as big as it is
@monkymonk6 Why would you gig with it? It's a good little cheap amp for practice but in my oppinion and many other people's it's a little bit bland, not the type of thing to gig with but good to have around the house none the less.
What would you guys recommend for a post-rock and heavy-metal player/wannabe player? The 20x or the 30x? Personally i don't think the 30x has the effects for metalish sounds.
well, i play heavy metal like u and im gettin the 20x amp, mainly cos it has metal and metal stack, so it should be cool cos i play bullet for my vallentine, machine head and suff like dat.
@Luvinhas well its never gonna sound like metallica because they use full tube amps and they also use full and have stack size cabs so achieving their tone is merely impossible with small amps....unless its the kirk randall or a peavey rage or solo(those are the closest ones i can find tht are affordable)
how can you get that sound i cant get a good sound for solos my sound sucks ass i have this amp (which i hate!!!!!!) i have a epiphone les paul with 81 emg pickups and a metalzone but my solo sound sounds like cheap mono crap
i have multiple chords and some pedals, im not sure how to use the pedal. specificly i dont know where to plug in chords or anything, can somone please write back with a description of how to plug it in. thnx
if you dont care about buying pedals you can get the 15x, but well its better to get the 20x since it already have built-in effects (which the 15x doesnt, only distortion)

Reverb is crap, looks like you're playing in a shooting range.
Delay is fine
