Richard...you do have a good voice...You just weren't used to being in front with the microphone....although, Karen was definitely brought magic to the mix...it wouldn't have been the same without you...you were the foundation and the magic maker who knew the different ranges and mixes....God Bless you for your gift of arrangement and for bringing the world the Carpenters....I wish I might one day get a chance to sing with you...some day...
Poor Richard....I loved Richard and Karen...I remember meeting them as they were coming out of the Hamburger Hamlet and I was coming back in because my sister was in there talking to Troy Donahue...(true story)...and they both were right in front of me...I wanted to give them a hug...but, I just pretended they were folk...but, I really wanted to say hello...and thank them...I used to play their records over and over to sound just like Karen...and that's my gift...I have the vocals she has.
I don't think people realize how difficult this must have been for Richard to sign after just losing Karen. He is a great singer, but he is the one responsible for all of the songs that we heard Karen sing. There is alot of work that goes into making a record like arranging, composing, etc.... This is a very special person, so glad The Carpenters were just put in the Hollywood bowl of Fame. Rock n Roll Hall of Fame is next! Wake up Hall of Fame!!!!
I think Richard has an OK voice, its not really that strong or powerful, its just ok. Its funny how Karen had such a powerful strong voice, and Richard's is soft and breathy. LOL!
thanks for posting this video this had to be the most touchin moment of the entire show.a year after the loss of his singer and he had to perform this christmas classic at christmas holidays without her.He did a great job but you feel the obsence of karen.there, anyway this christmas show brings many memories and it was a trully unique television program somethin that you dont see in todays tv.the carpenters ROCKED
I love the sound of Richard's voice. Karen's was SO GOOD, but Richard's was really nice too! I know his solo albums didn't do great, but I wish they had so he would have made more :) I have his "Time" album on LP and cherish it. Wish I could get the CD. Oh and NedNickerson, you post the BEST STUFF!! I've spent hours on YouTube viewing your stuff. Thanks!
closing his eyes @ 1:57, that's so much Karen!!!! I guess this is the first time you see Richard singing lead wihout being at the piano... he Then understood the nakedness Karen must have felt when she was asked to lead the band and get out from behind the drum kit!!!
PERFECT!

Richard did an awesome job with the lead vocal. He should have released this too.
