  • imprescindible e IMPRESIONANTE.

  • @Smalin you should do this for Saint-Saens's Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso (solo violin and orchestra)

  • @runforrestrun13 Many people have said that.

  • The colours you chose are clever! Good job!

    /not being sarcastic/

  • Beautiful

  • the elvish zombies are attacking!!!11

  • amazing

  • I think I would've enjoyed this more if I hadn't heard it in so many films already. To appreciate the piece exclusively musically, instead of added to cinema, if that makes any sense.

  • this would be amazing revamped and with a white background, i think

  • @bluexrhapsody81 Did you watch the version with a black background?

  • @smalin Yes, but I like the look of your more recent stuff better, such as Bach, Brandenburg Concerto #3, First Movement, Allegro (ver. 2)

    or

    Debussy, Second Arabesque (piano solo)

    or

Brahms/Anon/ZRI Clarinet Quintet (Free But Lonely, Street Tune)

    to name a few.

  • @bluexrhapsody81 I could spend time making another version of this, but I'd rather spend it on doing new pieces.

  • @smalin fair enough. always looking forward to the new stuff.

  • What instruments are playing, which symbols do they correspond to?

  • @ssw166 see the FAQ

  • Could you do a video of The Aviary from Carnival of the Animals? The flute would have a beautiful pattern. I was a (terrible) second violinist when my high school orchestra played this, and I remember listening to the flute part and being amazed.

  • I hate to admit it, but I probably wouldn't appreciate classical music if it weren't for you serving both performances and choices of them on a silver platter for me. I love this performance to death - it's flawless! I hope you keep making everything go right for brief moments (quite literally) forever.

  • i'm pretty sure this was also in fantasia

  • goosebumps.

  • They use this piece on hulu to advertise the "Criterion Collection" of films and it's been driving me nuts because I couldn't remember which section of Carnival of the Animals they were using! Thanks for clearing that up!

  • I think it was in Beauty and the Beast, wasn't it?^^

  • which instrument(s) was the yellowish orange oval representing

  • @blackkeyetude Flute. It's hard to hear, but if you know that that's what it is, you might be able to follow it.

  • @smalin Did you know you have a wikipedia page? That's sick!

  • @CardingtonLZF Well, yes, I have a Wikipedia page as a *user* ... not as a *subject*.

  • @smalin OOOOH, so that's what I saw when I Googled your name LOL. Oops! You should totally be a subject though.

  • @smalin i found out on your wikipedia page that you invented the MAM. what inspired you to?

  • @PianoDude1011 You should probably read the "History" section on my web site.

  • @blackkeyetude I think it's the fish in the aquarium.

  • this is a bit special :-)

  • Beautiful!!

  • I love the three-dimensionality of it. Looks just like an aquarium with fishies :)

  • Your visual interpretation is very interesting. I enjoyed this !

  • Such an eerie song, a godly performance and beauty to look at. Thanks for the video! The background color is really good, too.

  • I'm so happy you did this. I was hoping you would one day.

  • magical~~~

  • i really love this music

  • one week i have search for this song now i GOT IT YEAAAA

  • Bravo! More! More!

  • this reminds me of Danny Elfman compositions...now i see where he took them from

  • What program do you use to make the MIDI file before using it with the MAM player ? This is the step I don't know how to perform -- say I have a music sheet, a nice audio playing and I want to make the MIDI before using MAM.

Are there free softwares to "write" a partition then save it as MIDI ?

  • @Iphigenie2011 I put the score in Sibelius, export MIDI, record a MIDI click-track, then use software I wrote to map the exported MIDI to the click-track timings. With off-the-shelf tools, you'd need to edit the exported MIDI file to match the audio.

  • @smalin thank you for the information :)

  • It's like you read my mind! I was going to request Saint-Saens, thanks for posting.

  • I would love to see the Clarinet Concerto in A, by Mozart, (any movement). Or the Clarinet quintet in A (first movement). I know how busy you are, but I thought I'd mention it anyway. I love these videos!

  • @terrybeaton The closest I'm likely to come is a movement of the Brahms clarinet quintet (probably in a week or so).

  • Is this a new display mode? It's a bit harder to follow than the older ones, I think its just because some of the shapes aren't lighting up well enough.

  • This was high on my wish-list of pieces you might have done, so I thank you Mr. Malinowski.

Any chance of seeing some of the Shostakovich jazz pieces in the future? Other than the ubiquitous Russian waltz.

  • @Aquilani42 It could happen someday, but I'm pretty back-logged at the moment.

  • @smalin Need a hand with something?

  • @Aquilani42 What are you offering?

  • Nice video, the colors remind me of the surf guitar video I made with your mam player.

Speaking of, I am still holding my breath for the pro version lol.

  • Seems to me the audio and video aren't synchronized properly on this one... Otherwise, wonderful! =)

  • I'm not a huge fan of Saint-Saëns either, but I like Le Carnaval des Animaux (and Danse Macabre, for that matter) for their light-heartedness and fun-spiritedness.

This is one of my two favorite parts of Le Carnaval, and I love that you used green as background for it - very fitting!

  • Very nice =). Love your videos

  • There's not enough distinction between the small piano note colors and highlighting the ones being played. I also think your choice of green background adds to this confusion, as it's too similar in color to the piano notes. Guess others feel the same. BEAUTIFUL work, just hard to see

  • I agree, the piano notes were not so clearly defined. Other than that I loved the way the chords floated against the (strings?) in the middle. The idea of sacrificing the formal arrangement for the enhanced spotlight on the counterpoint (or the essential interplay of certain parts) is very exciting!

  • I come from Brazil, I want to write compliments about your videos, but I don't know how to write...

  • @EuduardoWoW You can post comments in Portuguese if you like.

  • The highlighting of the piano notes seems a bit too subtle to me, especially at the fast bits, I couldn't even see where it was playing at first.

  • I wish I could hear each instrument individually...

  • Beautiful! Do more!

  • A fantastic choice!!!

  • it reminds me the beauty and the beast from disney :O just the beginning

  • ARPEGIOS

    chromatism

    ARPEGIOS

    chromatism

  • Dobra robota Stefan!

  • interesting to have the green background, it was wired watching the video with that, but cool in how it makes this video stand out from the other videos

  • Why does this sound so much like Danny Elfman's soundtrack to Nightmare Christmas? I swear, the melody at 0:20 is directly lifted from the piece...

  • @DonnieTheKing I definitely see where you're coming from with that. It's interesting that you'd mention that too. Elfman was influenced greatly by Saint-Saens work. With his fluent connection between the visual and auditory senses (Clearly seen in Camille's Carnival/Danse Macabre). Fascinating stuff

  • I want this played at my funeral.

  • @planeshaperman be certain that the facility has an excellent sound system

or if you are using live musicians..... book them early and read the contract before it is too late.

  • You just had to do Saint-Saens just before Halloween, didn't you? I wish I could see you do more of his pieces.

  • @Jasutin No, it was just a coincidence; I started working on this many months ago, but it got pushed aside when more important things came up, and I just now got around to it. I'm not a huge fan of Saint-Saëns, so the odds of me doing another of his pieces is low. Sorry.

  • I'm so happy that you put new videos smalin. New visuals are pretty nice but I'm the one who likes black background. Still, the important part is the music isn't it? Thank you for posting these stuff.

  • This song isn't quite a danse macabre, but it still seems fitting for halloween tomorrow! :)

  • Great music, great visual.

  • The circle are too subtle to notice any changes.

  • @Doraeminemon01 Yes, it's pretty subtle. @BourbonFairytales asked for a version with a black background, and I'm making that now; I'll add a link to it to the FAQ once it's available. (It doesn't make that much difference.)

  • that was amazing

i think trying to aim for the colours of a coral reef would have been better

  • beautiful! i love that you combined the different display techniques you have!

  • you should really make a fantasia remake with ur awesomeness

  • ah, pls do the black background. i love to follow the "notes" and it was a little hard to follow this time. thanks

  • Muy bueno. Me gustó mucho.

  • @joseramon1402 me gusta!

  • Why the green background?

  • @hunocsi Uh, because it's an aquarium.

  • @smalin This aquarium is very cool, but could use a bit of cleaning... (just jking)

  • @luckyuniversal Maybe I should've put in some snails.

  • @smalin LOL, good idea!

  • I've loved your work for a long time because, with it, people could really "see" music.

I have a suggestion to make though: make the yellowish elliptics more "jiggly".

For example: take two of those. When the first passes to the second, make it so that the end of the first is dragged and not the whole shape. Then when the end connects with the second, make the rest of the first shape dragged to the second as the music flows.

It's hard for me to express this, but did you follow?

  • @Keyaku1 Yes, I understand your suggestion. Have you watched all the versions of the cello suite that I've posted (follow the link from the "More info" in the version on this channel)? Some of those have things that are related to your idea.

  • This is the most aesthetically pleasing video of yours I've seen yet. I like the combination of the different shapes and the layering.

  • have you done a night on bald mountain?

  • @PhilDePill2326 No, but it's been suggested before and I've taken note of that.

  • BELLISSIMO

  • OMG they used this song in the disney Beauty and the Beast :D

  • AMAZING! A synaestethic marvel! This video puts a milestone in your search for a combination of reference and art.

  • a personal favorite, well represented

  • so pretty ^ ^

  • Thank you, it's fantastic!

  • this kicks ass

  • Omg thanks so much!! Made my day when i saw this xD

  • I love this.

  • you make exquisite videos -- i wish they were longer....

  • I favorited this before it even started playing

  • @jeef290 Wow, does that mean I've become a "trusted brand"?

  • Comment removed

  • @smalin haha. @jeef290 me too!!

  • @smalin Why, yes it does Mr. Malinowski. I can't get enough of these musical animations!

  • "Aquarium" is featured in the trailers for the 1994 film Only You, the 1974 film The Godfather Part II, the 1995 film Babe, the 2006 film Charlotte's Web and the 2008 film The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, and appears to be one of the influences on the main theme in Walt Disney's Beauty and the Beast and is especially prominent in the cue titled "The West Wing".

  • @jwillis7

    Curious Case of Benjamin Button!

    That's the one...

  • YEESSSS... Thank you so much!!!

  • This is used in a Nancy Drew game, but I can't remember which one! Maybe Danger on Deception Island??

  • You should do some Sibelius man! I'd really love that.

  • @AWiddit If I liked Sibelius more, I'd consider it.

  • @smalin fair enough haha

  • This was in "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" Teaser Trailer.

  • @MEM90s That's where I've heard it before! I watched this and thought it sounded familiar.

  • could barely/not even hear the yellow rhombuses, but i enjoyed it. i really like the color scheme!

  • @1GunKnight I was going for a tropical fish look.

  • I'm performing this on Tuesday! Great timing, huh?

  • Was this song used in the Harry Potter movies?? i do not remember well

  • @shadowmax889 no i think it was beauty and the beast

  • This was wonderful, really really wonderful.

  • this is awesome steve...!

i have really never listened to saint-saens before...

but certainly now i see how beautiful it is...ethereal

thanks so much for your new post ... love it as always...!

  • You should do danse macabre by Saint-saens

  • Warmest congratulations! Your earlier musical graphical expositions were all marvellous, but I think you've reached a new plateau with this. As beautiful to watch as to hear. To do both in conjunction ... wonderful.

  • @ozmark7 Thanks! I only wish the glockenspiel and flute parts (the two yellow parts in this animation) were louder in the recording.

  • I bought your DVD online. But you've done so much more since then. Time for a new compilation perhaps? Perhaps there are copyright issues?

  • @ozmark7 No, I've pretty much decided that DVDs aren't worth the trouble. I'm selling video downloads of some animations (on Cerizmo; see the link on my channel page), but even that is problematic (mostly because the download process is error-prone, and I end up having to spend lots of time help customers with a 99 cent sale that I make 60 cents on). Now that YouTube supports 1090p and decent audio, that seems like the way to go.

  • @smalin Actually I was speaking loosely, and really meant bought the compilation download. I'll go back and have a look what else you've added since I last looked. My only problem with them was that my old desktop processor couldn't keep up with the video. Was OK once I upgraded. I like the downloads 'cause I can view on my iPhone/iPod without mobile broadband constraints or chewing through my plan. I'm sorry you only make a few cents per sale though.

  • @ozmark7 I don't mind not much a lot of money per sale (of the downloadable videos), but I do mind having to spend time helping customers; I'd rather spend my time making videos.

  • Gah!

It's so familiar, does anyone have some examples of movies that use this?

  • @hedonism13 one of them is 'days of heaven' from terrence malick

  • Beauty and the beast I think? It's very similar.

  • sooooo goooooddd

  • I think, I might of heard the descending half steps in Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines.

  • Very cool! Love what you've done with this!

  • It was used in a nano technology documentary... now I remember!

  • Instant Favourite!!!

  • There is only one word I can use to describe this piece: Unearthly.

  • It is from a science documentary I think...

  • @freeadplanet "from" a science documentary? lol

No it's from Carnival of the Animals.

  • This sounds familiar....

  • @snipersEND The melody is used in Disney's "Beauty and the Beast".

  • Good to see you're uploading videos again. That gap between these and the first movement of the Ninth Symphony was almost unbearable.

  • wonderful!

  • Love this song--thanks for the upload. It always brings to mind the opening scene from Beauty and the Beast for me.

  • Fantastic
