  • Definitly in the Top 5 of my favorite Songs.

  • it is a hymn.

  • Ok showing my age now,I remember seeing Joy Division,in the early eighties @ the Hacienda in my City of Manchester. It seems a life time ago now & is.The Hacienda was one of the very best clubs ever,The kids who went there, We are parents now,All in our late forties early fifties,But the music is as still fresh to me as it was then,Glad I was there to be part of it.

  • I like the version by Broken Social Scene.

  • My twelfth favourite song of all time

  • owned!

  • Youtube/WISPRWORLD

  • We saw Ian live in Toronto,Canada in 1980...miss you so much..every major band that had any success knew you were going to be great.

Bless your soul where ever you are travelling the galaxies learning the meaning of life and all that crap.

Gemma Hard hugs...glad you had a child...you will always be here now Ian.

  • @repelghosts LMAO if youre gonna lie might as well do it right, Joy Division NEVER performed in the US or Canada, they never flew to america cuz Ian killed himself like 2 days before the flight, so #FAIL on ur part bro

  • I always used to wonder how love could tear people apart, until I had to deal with it myself a few times. It's like Ian was trying to warn people so they could practice communication and learn to understand one another. It sounds like sad resignation, but is actually uplifting...no wonder he felt overwhelmed... We still love you Joy Division!

  • Beautiful song. Also check youtube/WISPRWORLD

  • wonderful

  • i love u ian....kiss...

  • God this singing is horrible, but the Keyboard makes up for it.

  • i am ian curtis. thanks for all the lovely comments.

  • betchadonthavabigone!!

  • @ivorbigonee no, no you're not, the REAL Ian Curtis wouldn't have such a douchy-like attitude, although he was cocky because he knew he was good :)

  • @0mgwtfbbq21 believ what you wish

  • @ivorbigonee i believe what is true, and the truth is you are not Ian Kevin Curtis.

  • @0mgwtfbbq21 you have a very closed mind so im disapointed in you

  • @ivorbigonee disapointed for what? for knowing that you are NOT Ian? stop posing noob! and if you are the "real" Ian Kevin Curtis i would believe you if you post a vid of yourself and sent it to me, then i would believe you

  • @thermocautery He can't hear you.

  • @larsdars yes i can

  • Who are the 9 a-holes giving this a thumbs down?

  • 'till I die.

  • Amazing song, it takes me back...

  • i love joy division till the end of time

  • Ian Curtis principal influencia de Luca Prodan, Argentina respeta la música británica. Sumo es el Joy Division argentino!!!! Greatings from Argentine

  • can we all agree that it`s a wicked tune and stop analizing

  • @retoryx Nice one. I'm getting pissed off by the sanctification of Curtis on youtube. He was as much of a tosser as you or me. he was no God. He was just a bloke from Macclesfield who had a few good tunes in his head. And some mates who knew how to compose great music.

  • @liamevans ahhhhhh fuck em, let them wake up

  • dont compare beatles and joy division.

  • BEST SONG OF ALL TIME

  • ai limiti della mia memoria. grandi

  • They hit a perfect note here; go to a place inside of everyone of us with this song. That's why it is perfect for just the moment you need it in.

  • @pchazzzz ian curtis never took hard drugs, he did though take his multiple medications for his epilepsy which he would take to much of most of the time

  • Comment removed

  • i bet this guys wouldve possibly been better than the beatles had Ian not killed himself idk thats just what i think i mean they coulve been the best band ever :P

  • @0mgwtfbbq21.... buddy... i dont discriminate with anything musically wise unless its a beatles comparrison. No.... just NO!

  • @ovechkin100 thats ur problem, i meani can compare my all time fav band with the beatles if i want u and u cant stop me and i think that JD is miles better than the beatles

  • @0mgwtfbbq21 i know music is all opinion. but the beatles are 10x the band joy division was.

  • @ovechkin100 thats ur opinion and my opinion is that the beatles were way too overrated, and besides theyre fans were weed smoking 10 year old girls :P no offence there :P and idk Joy Division has better songs and lyrics IMO

  • @0mgwtfbbq21 weed smoking ? wtf does that have to do with anything ? and as for lyrics... youre fucken dumb. mccartney and lennon wrote the best shit bud. and they could sing it like none other aswell.

  • @ovechkin100 sorry fuckface but thats ur opinion and yes weed smoking fans, the hippies were the beatles fans and ur fucken dumb, ian curtis made better lyrics than lennon or mccartney because they were very deep and more meaningful so stfu and go back to the 60s asshole

  • @0mgwtfbbq21 lol yea ok bud. this is like joy divisons biggest hit....

  • @ovechkin100 it is but imagine if Ian was alive today, joy division would be THE band that changed it all, imagine if ian took that plane to america, they wouldve been bigger than god itself, i mean this band had a big chance on beating the beatles (lol) but ian fucked it up and commited suicide which is a real bummer to all JD around the globe :(

  • @0mgwtfbbq21 you cant just say that. you dont know what they were going to become. you cant say things like they were gonna be this and shit. it wasnt fact that they were going to. maybe threw your eyes but that doesnt make it the truth.... maybe they COULD have been, but you'll never know that. and bigger than god ? please tell me youre not religious... and btw smoking weed isnt bad for you. and whats wrong with hippies ? they are so peace loving friendly down to earth people.. whats to hate ??

  • @ovechkin100 im not saying that, but look at the facts, yes theyre career was short but in that short time they changed ALOT, and hippies are lovely when theyre high, people often think they nice and all but it wasnt them it was the drugs they took, and i diont hate and really dont mind em and weed is bad for ya, it messes up ya brain cells and what not :P

  • @0mgwtfbbq21 im extremely happy you brought up the brain cell thing. the way they conducted that experiment was they took little monkeys and put a gas mask over their face for a long period of time and pumped OG Kush ( the best strain of weed ) threw these masks for like half an hour, and it deprived them of air. now when your brain isnt getting air THATS what kills your brain cells. and THATS scientifically proven.Weed has never been the cause of death before either

  • @ovechkin100 okay stop the argument its getting old, and LOL how we started arguing over weed being bad or good for u on a JD vid LMAO

  • @0mgwtfbbq21 how ? you are the one who brought up weed and you are the one who said its bad for you. which clearly shows you have absolutely no idea what youre talking about and just hear someone say weed is bad and dont think for yourself and just agree with them. im right about weed not being bad for you and i know i am. and if you want to be proven wrong ferther go look it up. google how marijuana effects the brain.

  • @ovechkin100 okay dude u really need to get a life and stop fighting i dont care anymore and wont pay any attention to what u have to say so drop this argument i dont care anymore its getting old get a life and ima block u, i dont care if u dont care i just am i dont want to hear u again kthxbai

  • @0mgwtfbbq21 i dont believe joy division would have been really big commercially if they went on for 5 more years probably upper middle size would be their limit, the music was too cerebral for the large majoriity of the rock public. i dont think their american tour would have even filled the venues, even the punk new wave leading bands in america (give or take a sold out blondie) rarely filled even the medium size venues.

  • @ovechkin100 there styles were very different but he best stuff of both bands is legendary, john lennon really liked joy division, see my other comments

  • @0mgwtfbbq21 its all generalisation, beatles 1967- 1969 were excellent, joy division mid 78 to mid 1980 were excellent, joy division pre mid 78 were pretty crap. beatles 62 -64 were pretty crap, i suggest beatles fans try unknown pleasures and closer, and joy division fans try the white album (double) happy listening.

  • I really like this song. Its quite simple but really deep and is much better than some of the sheer rubbish in the charts.

  • best version of this song!! the beginning is just...

  • My most favorite song and video ever!

  • Man, what an interesting history of this band and New Order. I just read about it on Wiki.

  • @bucinaus

You should check out the movie "24 hour party people" then :)

Google it, you'll find it quite entertaining I hope!

  • @Oneofthosecoolkids

I checked it at IMDB. Doesn't seem like my thing. There are other movies like it and they all have the same message. Music is cool and that is as far as I take it.

  • I just discovered this song about a month ago and I think it is really freakin cool!

  • @bucinaus glad there are still people out there discovering this, to me this is the best song ever!

  • @peredebeeste

I can see why you think that of this song. It is eerie but deep and relaxing for the soul. It is really just classic early 80's hypnosis but in a drug-free way and not doom and gloom. I agree with the comment by beckyboo 1001; what songs anymore put us in a state like this?

  • This song makes me sad and happy

  • would be quite a site if the door in the begining still exhist!!!

  • NOTHING beats this. i get depressed when i hear this.....

  • This would be a beautiful song to kill yourself to.

  • @radajan Nah, this is a bit obvious, lol. Listen to Lou Reed's PERFECT DAY. Now there's a song to kill yourself to.

  • @aprilaeries lol

  • Hi. Can anybody tell me the exact name of the guitar Ian is using here?? I'm aware that's it's a Phantom model, but not sure of the exact name and model. Also, would anyone know if this model is still available today??? Cheers.

  • One of the most truthful, intelligent and heartbreaking songs ever written about a relationship on the verge of collapse...and by my favourite band of all time. Need to know the story? See Grant Gee's doc "Joy Division" and the Ian Curtis biopic "Control", directed by Anton Corbijn, who also did the lovely video for the brilliant "Atmosphere". Cheers to all my fellow JD fans...

  • love how it goes brown lol

  • love, love will tear us apart again

  • @kawiultra thanks :)

  • what guitar is Ian using?

  • R.I.P ian sadly missed

  • 18 maggio 1980

    18 maggio 2010

    30 years without you

    :-(

  • We will always remember your greatness Ian!

  • Love it...!

  • @joefantabulous whatever

  • (L)

  • What is the guitar that play Ian in this video?

  • @marcoot93 Vox phantom

  • Love Will Tear Us Apart is absolutely timeless. The instrumentation, the lyrics, Ian's vocals - all immediately evince their enduring influence. Ian's struggle with epilepsy, depression, and his relationships is something anyone can relate to, regardless if they have experienced them firsthand. So many lost a great deal when Ian took his own life, but the rest of us still are losing out because of the brilliant music that was never created because of Ian's death (no disrespect to New Order).

  • Thanx to England:) what's in the water there???

  • love this tune

  • Legend. /bow

  • Incredible to think this is now 30 years old...

  • Ahhhhhh.....

  • i have this on vinyl, from back i the day

  • R.I.P. Ian Curtis :((((

    nice...

  • This song's amazing!!

  • eu gosto desta musica, mas gosto muito de White lies, quem gosta de joy division deve ir ver essa banda é de+

  • Thank You

  • Acredito que Ian Curtis suicidou-se pois tinha uma percepção muito elevada! A vida se tornou insuportável para ele aqui nesse mundo de mercado! Sua obra vive!

  • Adoro esta música...é simplesmente brilhante!!

Ontem vi o filme "Control" e fiquei nostálgica!!

Como é possivel alguém matar-se com apenas 23 anos...mete-me alguma confusão!!

Ainda poderia ter feito tanta coisa boa!!

  • Sim, Ian Curtis morreu, já faz um bom tempo, mas tem legado...

  • best song ever.

    <3

  • really a great song!

  • What kind of guitar is Bernard playing?

  • Bernard is playing keyboards, you mean Ian? its a Phantom Vox

  • total n00b school

  • This is the true. So simple. Best song ever!

  • classic!

  • epic fail

  • Joy Division is no longer. Ian Curtis committed suicide. But the rest of the band formed a new band called New Order, but it`s a different music type.

  • You should check out Thejokerisdead's videos of Ian Curtis..really moving and heart-felt dedication of a true fan

  • are you just a complete tosser or does it run in the family?

  • why do you make that question to new order????

  • Aces.

  • Are you taking the piss or are you stupid?

  • I once heard this was to some degree meant as a response song to Captain & Tenielle's "Love Will Keep Us Together". Anyone else hear this?

  • Yea, it is not so much a response as a parody of the soppy lyrics.

  • i love this song and the video... it brings back memories....

  • fantastic song

  • I get sooo sick of people saying on Youtube that you need to be bipolar or a heroin addict or whatever to derive meaning from a particular song. I think they are full of BS and it's a crutch. It's a weird way of putting themselves up and other people down like being bipolar or a drug addict makes them special. A person's enjoyment of a song is totally subjective.

  • @pchazzzz

Couldn't agree more. You sir deserve a medal for seeing through this stupid way of thinking. Drug addicts and bi-polar's are losers, not exceptional gifted individuals to society.

  • @drealm youre a dumbass. lol.

  • @MyStarsYourNight

    hehe fuck you faggot. hehe.

  • @drealm clean living emotionally healthy people are mean ugly fungible wastes of skin. .Even if you are not bi-polar or a drug addict it is natural for creative types to be attracted to dysfunction, self destruction more than repulsed. These things are expressions of self against society. People put you two down because it is obvious how your lame PC gen y values have dammed the channels of the soul and sterilized the culture high school queer stomper wannabes like you always start these fights

  • @healthhaterxx wow pretentious much?

  • Ei, check out my flamenco cover from Love Will Tear Us Apart!!

    ;)

  • R.I.P, ian curtis.

  • Deep and sad...

    Cool and fresh... :)

  • universal calification: 10

  • Ian Curtis 4 eva! this is one of the best songs written, his legacy lives on xx

  • forever ian

  • LWTUA on Permanent is a better version, but the best is the Peel Sessions recording.

  • The permanent version is SHIT. I'm sorry, you cannot beat the first version

  • This isn't the first version though.

  • I know...

  • One of the best songs ever written - IMHO.

  • One of the best songs ever.

    R.I.P Ian!

  • Ian Curtis died because he could'nt deal with too much, and the more fame, the more pressure and along with the guilt he felt regarding his infidelity.

  • Genius

  • GOD BLESS YOU TONY WILSON!

  • Ian Curtis died of too MUCH love...or maybe too LITTLE in receipt...

  • committed?!?! che coglione che sei

  • não gostei.

  • What do you mean???

  • RIP Mr Manchester

  • RIP Tony Wilson , may he rest in peace and his legacy continues now and forever.

  • God bless you Tony Wilson. Dreadful news. Along with Morrissey & Marr he made the 80s survivable for a young man adrift on a sea of Pete Waterman drivel.

  • what a great song brings back those good memories.

  • Ian's probably re-incarnated and is another Mancunian teenager somewhere out there by now.

No regrets - he doesn't remember his past life, except as newly inbuilt intuitive wisdom NOT to commit suicide.

    = Definitely a bad idea.

  • good luck with the divorce mate

  • Simply the Best !! Ian rockkkkkkkkkk !!

  • htey are not a rock band ::))

    they are too intense.

    they are the best

  • I really dont think you should play this at your wedding mate, as good as the song may be.

  • Not many songs better than this, it captures a feeling that is still alive after so much time....

  • JOY DIVISION RULES FOR EVER AND EVER.

  • for concentration camp sex workers... Joy Division like many other punk and post-punk bands used imagery and language that shocked people... hell- the sex pistols, siouxsie, even the Angelic upstarts went through periods where they WORE swastikas- Joy Division simply lifted a name.

  • Love U ...nevermind...

  • yes those were the prostitues . this guy was obsessed with the nazi. listen to they walk in line the song is eirie. i jnhust love it

  • ahhhh que lindo tema

  • It's a beautiful sad song about a strong love relationship slowly dying! I wouldn't play this at my wedding...it's stating that the marriage will end (as so many do!)

  • RIP Ian Curtis

  • yeah!..wedding song!!!! coz marriage IS doom, but that's why u go in it together...'til death do us apart!!...i mean, how more tragic can it get?...

  • This song is so bittersweet, it reminds me of a woman I fell in love with but she marries another.

  • coz i've been hurt in the past and this song would remind me not to take everything for granted. not even on your wedding day!!

  • when i get married this will be my wedding song jajajaj de unaaaa!

  • this song means so much to me and i know when i get married this will be my wedding song. fuck all that cheesey bullshit!!!!

  • I saw 'em live... lived in Manchester end 70s... We knew they were incredible and epoch changing even as it was happening. (Also saw the first ever New Order gig - tiny, tentative, shell-shocked - about 6 weeks after the suicide. It was heartbreaking. Still angry and sad about that suicide!

  • wow

  • Did Martin Hannett really produce this record? I doubt it, because he (or someone) has buried Ian's vocal so deep in the mix that you can barely make out the bleeding lyrics, and that's a shame, because this is one of the Top 10 Greatest Songs of the Rock Era. Because of the lyrics.
