I think the comedy Will is trying to get across here is a mimicry of many news-casters who take themselves rather too seriously. That and the sheer awkwardness that comes as part of many of Will's sketches. Some of his jokes aren't your typical wit and banter, some have a separate undercurrent that takes impersonation to a slightly more serious level, yet no less amusing.

Some people can appreciate this sort of humour, others cannot.

@Broshmosh Completely agree! 'Stranger than Fiction' was the first time I didn't automatically stop watching a movie that he was in. He was also good in 'Everything Must Go'. He should just do deadpan comedy/dramas, although the other stuff seems to make him a lot more money.
