  • Dmitri Hvorostovsky always looks so bored. One is almost waiting for him to fall asleep.

  • thumbs*

  • AWESOME!!! thums up (y)

  • Great greaatttttt! Thanks!

  • They are magnificent together! He is obviously very enamoured and careful with her during this duet . . . she plays affectionately with him too. The result is a charming couple of top class singers enjoying themselves and delighting their audience!

    Thanks for posting!

  • Fantastic, fantastic!

  • Once again this fabulous singer captivates his lady with charm and manliness. Obvious isn't it. Both are brilliant. Graham Melb Aus

  • @Exsilvis

Damn straight! I would love to hear her sing the Countess Almaviva @ the Met or even @ Winspear. She could kill in it !

  • Her dress is terrible^^ But the sing is perfect^^ and he too^^

  • All of the so-called experts that are spewing negativity, critiques, and judgmental comments, are simply in the dark. This is quite a moving performance, by two human beings who have risen to another plane of consciousness musically. This is a song meant to take us out of our circumstances, if only for a moment, to a time when life was simpler. Men were men, and women were women and it was just fine. Look at their faces as they perform. Sheer understated joy. Amazing gifts, under control. Heave

  • oh my gosh... I'm speechless...

    just beautiful voices~

  • They are so lovely! God bless their voices!

  • I love the wink.

  • @Rakook1 I know! It's almost like she's saying 'eat your hearts out, girls'. I wish I looked half as handsome as Dima.

  • Ich Habe Dich so lieb!

  • Fantastic! Love the voices.

  • Sumi jo is amazing but Dmitri Hvorostovsky stinks. Listen to placido domingo sing the same aria and see the difference...two different voices but doming is so suave, perfect and a pleasure to listen to, his voice has no inconsistencies.

  • keep in mind though domingo is a tenor, hvorotovsky is a baritone (and f.y.i. its a duet not an aria). Domingo does have incositencies, as do all voices, just type in "domingo as tarzan"

  • this is actually an aria. Arias can be sang by two people. You have to do you research a little deeper than reading up here and there. Domingo HAS no inconsistencies in most of his singing, and it is possible to compare a tenor to a baritone if it is done correctly.

  • Duets are sung by two people, coming from "duex" which means 2 in french. "aria" in opera and operetta at least, is nearly always to define a solo by a singer. If your referring to the bit where hvorostovsky sings on his own for a short amount of time, it could only be obligato recitative, if not part of the duet, which most people accept it to be.

  • Actually Duets come from "Duetto" no Duex. Which means two in italian. The italian opera has an older tradition than the french as you know and we were the first who came up with this type of performance. There is an entire suite written by Rossini composed of Arias meant to sang by two or sometimes three people. The word Aria, which means Air, was used because the compositions were "lighter" than more dramatic pieces used in opera.

  • First of all, Dmitri is singing in another range. Secondly, his voice breaks from one voice to another at a different place at a different tone in the song than Domingo's. This variation off course calls for musicality to be able to like it right the way.

  • The culture of the voice. The voice is one. This idea of ranges and registers is a false perception. The Bel Canto school is gone and so the good singing for the most part. Read Marafioti.

  • Your first three sentences didn't make much sense.

I do agree bel canto is not thought anymore or at least few pay attention. At least the new soprano school doesn't teach singers to grow into hippos, singing in a affected pretentious way, with an excessive vibrato, leave behind a masculine under harmonic. We should be happy and hope bel canto will come back again.

  • Sorry, perhaps you may want to read the Marafioti literature, after that it will probably make more sense to you. cheers.

  • saruninofarandola1, I rather wait'il I see you actually be able to author a valid argument pro anything. This would be an indication your recommended reading is worth checkin' out.

  • When you can sing like that you can wear bubble wrap, for all I care. Hot damn!

  • This is magnificient! Thank you for posting.

  • sumi has the cutest face and don't get me started about her singing...but what on earth is she wearing?! it looks kind of and awful combination between a floral arrengement and drag queen's closet...and next to all in black dimitri it looks like gay parade meets grandma's funeral

  • No comparisons should ever be made imho - versions are sung differently not better or worse by different people. I just happen to love this version.

  • wonderful!

  • Nice, but Battle/Domingo's version is superior. Check it out.

  • hard to compare a baritone / soprano to a tenor / mezzo. different effect.

  • Kathleen Battle is not a mezzo. She is a high soprano like Jo.

  • Thank you, thank you, thank you for this, have loved Dmitri for years and this duet with Sumi Jo is simply gorgeous.

  • Lo malo de Dmitri Hvorostovsky que la respiración es "muy notoria". ósea el buen oido lo escucha claramente cuando inspira

  • Thank you for posting this! It's beautiful!
