I'm a 3D modeler/ animator for games. I run Maya on a custom built home PC and it crashes only when I do something crazy like run 20x smooth processes on a single object resulting in millions of vertices. I had Macs lock up in the fucking infinate loop while doing run of the mill modeling processes. Macs are good at running light loads like DVD viewing, web design. But when it comes to running complex processes, they couldn't suck more.

Pc and Linux are my faves.mac has a much more restrictive os. That's not to say you can't do what you can do with windows (ie system file access, batch, edit file root properties, customize every thing imaginable,etc.) I just mean to say that macs are designed to sheild the user from any system information. If you just want to use your freaking programs tho, mac is better

But you must have been a pretty lame PC guy if you messed up your installations all the time. Also I guess you should have said wintel user / windows guy. The applications on my mac crashes much more than I ever noticed on my PC and I think the performance is much more sucky to. May have been the web which has evolved in a bad way though.

I was a PC guy all the way. I just got sick of all the viruses and spyware. The antivirus programs are always a day late and a dollar short with the protection too. My macbook pro is still faster than my coworkers' PCs and it's 2 years old.

what you said in the description is what a mac does, if it did not, it would suck. thefsxflyer is right. Macs for people that are less computer savy (not generalizing just saying they can be used for that purpose) and for creative things. Most people have no idea how they run, or that Mac is built on a linux operating system designed in 1969 by AT&T. Windows automatically tweaks all audio files upon interaction with the computer. I do not have enough space to explain why and how. Google it.

Linux is a free Unix like OS on the GNU core using a kernel (the linux bit) originally coded by Linux Torvolds in the 80s.

BSD Can indeed trace its roots back to Unix in 1969. OS X is based on BSD.

However in reality which OS is the more secure? Windows or OS X? hmmmmm.

Now I like Windows (I use it every day and have had PCs up until this year) but OS X is a more secure and better designed OS. BTW I am very technically savvy but I prefer the Mac. (cont'd)

Man är ju efterbliven om man kör Windows för något annat än spel. Man behöver ju inte köra OS X om man inte behöver några proapps utan kan ju nöja sig med *BSD eller Linux men om man vill kunna göra något lite mer kreativt så är ju OS X att föredra.

Jag var redan långt innan mitt köp missnöjd med 1440x900-upplösningen och 128MB vram på min macbook pro, men jag ville inte betala 4000kr mer för 256MB vram (och 200MHz snabbare cpu och 40GB mer disk som jag gav blanka fan i.)

Varför Apple inte kör med 1680x1050 kan jag inte förstå.

Förövrigt är jag gammal amigan, både Windows och Apple suger, Apple suger bara mindre ;D

i ran F.E.A.R on maximum settings (ABSOLUTLY MAXED) on a playable frame rate even through explosions, just the same as COD 4, so maybe you should test your system on them, oh shit sry... those games are only avaible for PC :-( thats a shame, i think the only good game that can be playd on mac is WoW, (wich is a good game)

x86 sucks in general, AMD64 instructions and registers improves it, and AMD also got quite a few of engineers from Alpha which probably know what they are doing.

I don't know what you mean with AMD's technology but I guess you mean AMD64. And yes, it's sort of funny how Itanium failed and they had to go with the line AMD had set up. I've never said I'm proud that my current machine contains an Intel CPU (as old Amiga user and all ;D)

Intels cpus are better atm thought.

I don't know if fear exist for OS X, and I won't install Windows on my mac I guess. I don't play wow, just the EU beta and final beta. I've played quite a lot of wc3 thought. Lots of EA games makes it to macs now but only by using a lame CIDER emulation/translation so it's not real ports. ID software and Blizzard and the only people who behaves good :D

But I guess if one is a real gamer one can always install Windows on the mac aswell so ..

I like FreeBSD and KDE and I more or less wanted a mac so I didn't had to dual boot with Windows for occasional gaming or stuff you can't do well in free software (editing videos, printing photos, run photoshop.)

So it's not very likely that I will start dual boot my mac, thought it would be fun to be able to play some games, like supreme commander or something, but I don't have anyone to play with anyway.

ok well your system, is about 3 years newer, dual core 2.2ghz, 2gb of of 2 times faster memory, and even a far newer vid card, lol so why when minimizing and opening things did it seem as iff it were laggin? i have a single core 2.4ghz amd 64 socket 939 cpu (retail value about %80 AUD) 1 gb of DDR 300mhz ram (not DDR2 667mhz like yours) i have a 7600GT (you have a 8600GT [sry but thats is far newer than mine] and i still see more performance out of mine)

What you are seeing here when minimizing is the Genie effect animation, it is designed so that you can see the effect... when you turn off this effect you do not see any lag...  I love all of my PC's and Macs - please get your facts straight before bashing on the Mac.

DDR2 isn't much faster than DDR, AMD with socket AM2 vs socket 939 got just like 1-2% better performance with DDR2. Compared to a desktop I have very slow DDR2 aswell.

I don't know what lag you are talking about, it takes some time for the animations to finish, but one can turn them of if one doesn't want to see them I guess, if you mean that the animation in themself lag I guess it may be because I choosed to recored the video at 20 fps.

The cpu speed won't matter so much when under this low loads anyway. The amount of ram will make a difference if needed, the speed probably not so. I don't know if the 8600m GT really is faster than the 7600GT for dx9 stuff, it can do dx10 thought. Good that you like your machine in any case. I'm not trying to prove that mine is better, just showing how it would look and how useless of a test it is.
