  • I opened the seagate 1tb as my USB port broke. Please let me know what hard drive enclosure to use for this hard drive as I would still like to use it as an external drive. Any suggestions is appreciated.

  • this was terrible. didn't show me anything.

  • so sir.. basically its like a no turning back trip?.. once i opned it i can no longer close it back??. o i really have to break the case?

  • Thanks for the video, I had one of these lying around and I want to build a desktop soon, saved me $100 bucks!

  • That was really helpful as it goes, thank you. I have one of those shitty external hard drive, It is not working and has a load of my photographs backed up on it. I am goignt o try it inside see what happens. So not lame at all, just what the doctor ordered. :-)

  • If I open mine up, can I house the drive in an external eSATA enclosure then to get a faster external drive connecting it to the eSATA port on my computer?

  • Dude, you destroyed it...

  • Herp Derp!

  • you also are a retard

  • I asked whether the Hard Drive Disk was a SATA HDD. I know what SATA is but thank you.

  • Shame that you have to break the casing.

  • Was it SATA?

  • @blauersalon1234 SATA stands for "Serial Advanced Technology Attachment". its the way hard drives and optical drives are connected to rest of system.

  • Just what I needed to know. Thanks

  • Τί μαλάκας είσαι...

  • FYI The case isn't designed to be opened up. It doesn't seal back up once you open it. I just used put it back together with duct tape.

  • Thanks, was wondering how to open it as one of my friends yanked on it by accident and broke off the connector from the board which the cable to the computer goes in. should hopefully be able to fix it and get it running tomorrow when i have a bit of spare time

  • On the video the seals have been snapped thus voiding the warrenty, is there a way of getting it open without snapping the seals?

  • Could you (or someone else who knows) tell me at what RPM this works at? thank you.

  • Did Youtube steal your voice or something?

  • damn it

    thanks a lot

    it solved my problems

  • YOUR FUCKING AWESOME!!!!

    YOUR THE FUCKING MAN!!!!

FINDING THIS INFO IS NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE!!!!

  • USELESS

  • this is very useful if u spent 2 hours figuring out how to open the damed thing lol....now i know i just need to pop its top and im in....heres hoping i dont brake a peice lol

  • Fine if you're only looking to get it out. This breaks nearly all of the connecting tabs

  • @Aceofmuffins it actually breaks nothing..

  • @nomewmew you can even see that you've broken the tabs in your video ... fail =]

  • baracuda 7200RPM SATA II very nice

  • thank you for the video, helped because usb port went inside the drive, somehow.

  • Hi Sir,

    Thank you for the video

    But sorry,

1- You didn't take care about the cover noches as they were completly destoryed.

2- You shouldn't use any metal tool to remove such plastic cover.

it's better to use your old adjusted credit card.

  • you broke it you numbskull FUUUUUU

  • Well that was fucking lame.

  • @seizureplease well why did u watch it then??

  • actually i think this is really helpful. I have tried sooo many ways to open it in order to get the data out of it, but none of them worked. so..i really like this video cause i finally get it opened...:)

  • Thx for the video. But how the hell did you remove the tiny screw in "part 2"? That thing is on there like glue.

  • Thank you!!!! Seagate refuse to be of any help what-so-ever and want peolpe to spend money for their services when you can do it yourself.... All I really needed was to know was how to open it and then I was albe to fix it myself. I appreciate this vid, I would have tried opening it like you did but without knowing if it would damage it or not.

  • @ P3RSONALANG3L..im having the same problem...i took the plastic case apart liek in the vid...and then there is a metal casing inside...im one small screw away from being able to hopefully put the USB connector back where it should be...i dont know if it will work or not but worth a try

  • Hey, so the usb connector thing broke inside my harddrive. I have alot of data in this harddrive that i seriously need... So once i open it up, i can just take the hard drive information/storage box inside the external hard drive and load it to my computer?? Im not sure of how to explain this. Is there like a memory chip or something inside the hard drive that i can take out so that I dont lose my data? HELP.

  • @P3RSONALANG3L All you have to do is remove the hardrive from the case and connect it to your computer using a SATA cable. This will enable you to view all the files as if it was plugged in via usb. Hope it helped.

  • useful thankyou!

  • It should be noted that some of the plastic tabs are broken when you crack open the case, but that doesn't affect the ability to reuse this enclosure.

    Useful vid. Thanks.

  • I tripped over mine whilst it was writing- I was copying everything over to my seagate from new Western Digital HDD I have bought that WILL NOT allow me to use up 600GB of the 1tb storage. So I decided to backup the 400GB I had already saved and then go and delete it all all partition the drive. So I did that, it was taking ages so I left the PC and my foot caught the Western Digital usb cable and it has broken the USB connector. I'm fucking fuming, Ive probably lost everything cos of tht HD

  • 1. sorry first vid so did't wanna talk really...just wanted to show how to open since it took me time to figure out.

    2. Yes the case was empty because I took out the hd and it's inside my pc :D just wanted to show.

    3. yes the case is fine for me and could be used for another hd if needed (still have it)

Wish I had more time to do vids...have so much tech stuff and play around with alot (pc, phones, consoles etc.) but hey maybe someday.

    thanx for the replys :P

  • @crazykiddodk

Thanks, was helpful :) Been wanting to open mine for a while as the usb port has fallen inside it. But i was baffled as to how to get it open cause i was worried id yank somit too hard and end up breaking it more haha.

  • @crazykiddodk hey i have a Seagate 500GB external hard drive. and the USB connection somehow came off (more like went inside the hard drive) so i was going to open it. if there's no way of fixing it, is it possible to use the actual hard drive and put it in my PS3? it'll be nice to have my ps3 with 500gb memory. thank you in advance for help

  • @sinnerslight i have exactly the same problem. did this work for you? and so would it then be possible to put that hard drive into another computer to recover the data from it?

  • mine fell

    :(

  • Does any one know what kind of a hard drive is inside a Seagate Expansion Potable 250 GB,i need to know what kind of hard drive...and what dimensions it is,i would like to use it on my Acer Zg5

  • @Elevationary

    Its a SATA 3.5 i think :)

  • So really, there isn't a hard drive in it after all?! It's just an empty metal box?

Conspiracy! Real mystery on our hands here.

  • Thank you very much for this video!!! This helps a lots

  • can you not speak then?

  • I want to take it out too. but I want to able to keep the external case too.

  • @nameadrian

Make a new one of gaffa tape.. :P

  • ok, I opened up mine..ende up breaking a few of the tabs..did I just void my warranty?

  • @UrosR yes you did

  • @UrosR Yes you did, but I needed to open mine before getting a new one exchanged, I told the company before time, and they gave me authorization to open it and have the date recovered before getting a new one.

So if you need to get the warranty, just ask permission to have authorization to open the drive before sending it in.

  • it is a sata drive inside. I need to open a case without damaging or breaking it...

  • if any body gets the i/o error this is the best way to fix it your self open it and then shake the hell out of it, workt for me lol xD

  • is that a Ide or Sata hard drive inside?

I would like to use it on my custom pc.

  • It's SATA.

To the uploader, I'm guessing you wasn't able to close the casing afterward?

  • Hey I just wanted to say that I have the same external hard drive and i just took it apart as well. If you take a little time and go back and forth with a flathead you will not break any if the tabs in the shell of the external.

  • hey no prob. mine is running 100% now.

still hear some clilckin noises sometimes but that's it.

  • @crazykiddodk

I have 1 problem, plz reply: I had this external for like 2 months I think and it went well. Now, when I try to turn it on (it being still in the case and everything) it makes this very slight beeping sound and the sound goes on and off for like a minute. I thought maybe it broke, or something. Ty to ur video, I opened it, broke all the little clippers almost xD but It still makes the same sound, what do I do? by the way I even shaked it to death

  • Thanks for the vid, was having trouble figuring out how to open mine. My ext HDD had the same problem.

Think the power supply blew itself
