From what I understand it is some sort of deformaty hes had since birth. I'm guessing the reason it looks like his right hand here is the picture was originaly taken with him holding it in his left hand and they decided to use photo shop or something to flip the image because they thought it would look better having him facing the center of the cover rather than the edge of the cover.
