i know you might not be able to process this but lets see... along the line somewhere, there was a communication error between the UK and the US (most likely because of the pre-existing "american football"), thus, resulting in multiple names for (obviously) the same sport. No one that's still living today can help calling it one or the other because it's what their culture has brought them up to call it. I think that's where we can leave it at.

Games resembling modern versions of soccer and rugby were played in England. So they came up with that name to avoid confusion. So the name got stuck in countries where more popular codes of football exists and that's not going to change no matter how much whining you make. So build a bridge and get over it.

it was originally called "association football" NFL adopted the name FOOTBALL because it is a similar version of rugby, and rugby is a similar version of "soccer." the rules for the game changed over time such as not being allowed to use your hands. some people didnt like this change so they broke off and created rugby. rugby was adopted in the US and called football because of the early history. and "soccer" comes from the second syllable of a-sSOC-i-a-tion. "er" was added because of slang.

Maybe we call it soccer because that's what our culture calls it and what we've called it all through our youth and adulthood. It has nothing to do with intelligence level, it's just a different culture.
