Tahitian, Hawaiian and Raqs Sharqui ("Bellydance") are completly diferent things!

Also, there are different styles of tahitian dances, they do not have to have quick hip motion.

man...the drumming really sucks....are they using tincans? theres no structure just random beats out of the blue and its very common in Tahitian Dancing done up in Hawaii......just my openion....but i think it should dound like this

Wrong, this has never been called "Belly Dance," belly dance is middle eastern. This is Polynesian - specifically Tahitian Otea. I've been doing Polynesian dance for eleven years and have never once heard it called "Hawaiian belly dance." Incidentally, Tahitian and Hawaiian are two different things.

From what I know of it exists as a term, it's called hawaian belly dance. At least that's what my dance teacher has told me. Whatever, either tahitian or hawaian or hawaian belly dance,we all understand more or less that it's a different thing from belly danging...!

Like some people have mentioned. This is Tahitian Dancing and it is not belly dancing. Though for both Belly dancing and Tahitian, closely looking into both, I can see why people would make the connection / assumption. Though.. some of them could be Hawaiian / Tahitian(Is there another name for Native's from Tahiti?) but are probably mixed.

it's a good vid, but the poster doesn't know the correct lingo. This is Tahitian. There are different names for things because they are all different things. Hawaiian, from what I have seen tends to be slower.

hippoANDhotdog-as a student of belly dancing, I assure you it is not from India as it is still a relatively new form of dance there. They had thier first bona-fide hafla/recital there in the last year or so called Talisman. Belly dance came from the Middle East and is called Raks Sharqi
