I could listen to this tune for the rest of my life .........Gonna get a cold keg, a beach chair, and and endless loop of the General......drift off in my chair on the Grand Strand. ....Just dig a hole and plant me!
starting in the 60's We'd vacation on the Outer Banks, for the next 45 + years I would hear this song by lounge and cover bands, I never knew the original or who did it, thank you, you tube!
@bumblebeebattv It was first released in 1963 and re-released in mid-1967 with a different label design. The 1967 release is what I remember from radio airplay.
RIP General ....Recently my "Carolina Girl" (Wilkes County, NC) wife passed onwent home. Many was the summertimeSunday night My Sweetie Heart and I would sit listening to Charlie Brown, eating BBQ shrimp & Steak, sipping Duplin wine, then finishing the night in the Garden Tub with Grand Strand tunes, wine and love.
General, Charlie .... Thanks for everything ... I would not change a thing.
Only the greatest beach music vocal performance of all time. Wish the oldies stations had this one. A great, great, unforgettable classic. RIP, General Norman Johnson.

@chocolaterules82257 By any chance do you know the lyrics to Country Fool? (especially the last few lines) Benn trying to figure that out for over 45 years

Every "soul & show" band in the South used to play this song in a medley with "Hey Baby" every Friday & Saturday night at fraternity parties everywhere. If that sounds too all-encompassing, no matter, it's true (or almost true!). If you didn't play this song (through about 1970), your band didn't come back!
Thanks, Nocaro.
Now - do you have "The Wrong Girl" by The Showmen?
The General is the 'GodFather' of today's Beach Music, When the Chairman comes to town, look-out the best show you every seen is about to take place. Thanks for the Post!
