She sings it beautifully! Her voice has a rare color and she sings the most difficult scales with great ease. High notes are also superb. Her interpretation reveals the great master, singer ans musician! Bravo!!!

I love her. She is a superb singer and a major artist. The vocal colour is just right, she can do pianissimo and trills and high notes and coloratura with elegant, understated ease, flirting with the music deliciously. Watch this, THEN go compare to the hysterical, wide-eyed, yodelling, machine-gun show-off vulgarity of Bartoli!

One of the few mezzo's whose coloratura is quite accurate and flowing, unlike the aspirated, not as pleasant to the ear-type coloratura that you hear from other mezzo's who shall remain nameless... you know of whom I speak. Both are wonderful musicians, however.

I saw her sing this opera at Covent Garden. Critics described her exquisite finale as a "benediction"; and they were right. I have never heard such delicate, uplifting, dazzling singing. Refinement, integrity, beauty, joy: The triumph of goodness, just as Rossini intended. A lovely reminder, thank you!

Anne Sophie is not a singer- she is one of the great artists of our time. She is one of the few people in any field of endeavor who seem to be masters of absolute perfection. She still sings beautifully, and she still brings dignity, artistry and understanding to everything she does.

100% wonderful. She was about 31 years old here (as this clip is 1986 as noted and I think she was born 1955) and she sounds terrific. Lovely creamy voice with good agility, secure top...plus she looks great and is playful with the aria. Thanks so much for posting this. I always like to see how the famous singers of our day (it's Feb.1, 2010 now) were when they started out.

I think Rossini intended a dark voice. The role was written for a coloratura contralto.

@swanningaround  Like what I have already commented somewhere, von Otter is high born, descended from the Swedish aristocracy, her father was a baron & diplomat. But inspite of her background she always behaves modestly. I listen to her CDs (which I have collected and have let her sign almost all) everyday, never tire of them.
