Why on earth would ANYONE in their right mind want to get rid of the HST??? It's actually a GOOD thing.

Americans have lower taxes, but understand that it comes with less social services, whereas Europeans have more social services, but understand and accept that comes with higher taxes.

However Canadian want more comprehensive social services, but expect to pay litte to nothing for them. Too many Canadians have this 'we want everything, but don't want to pay for it" mentality. Really it will become our undoing - Look at Quebec who has this mentality to the extreme and their terrible economy

If we want comprehensive medical care, no homlessness, no poverty, great public transit, affordable Education, great social prgrams overall then expect to pay 40-50% income tax, up to 20% sales tax, $2-$3 litre gas as they do in other parts of the world that offer better services.....Unless you are prepared to work for free, then don't expect others to provide you something for free.

I have my concerns about the HST, but more disturbing is the detachment of the average person

@xianapple ummmm....just to comment on what you said about gas prices, yes, gas is far more expensive in other parts of the world, BUT Canadians have to drive greater distances, with much greater frequency than most of those places with higher gas prices, most Cities in Canada don't have public transit (or at least not extensive public transit). Most areas of Canada are sparsely populated, and have a greater distance between towns, higher gas prices are not feasible in Canada, survival reasons.
