That must be an early version of the gorilla glue. That turned out not to be as good as advertised - very weak if it has to span anything.
Hide glue would've been better, at least as strong and would've cured faster.

called a turkey table due to the outline of the top being similar to that of a turkey on a serving dish... though it looks a bit more like mickey to me.
