I was coming out of a club with a buddy in a neighborhood in Wash. D.C. some would consider not safe. I looked up and here comes Marvin Jr. going in by himself, no entourage, escorts or bodyguards. This was back in the late seventies early eighties. I remember thinking to myself Marvin must be a regular guy. Great voice Marvin.
Holy Crap!!!!! I went to a millin shows at the Apollo and the Alden in Queens but I never saw the Dells live. And to see this song is mind blowing. Marvin Junior only challenged by Levi Stubbs or Teddy Pendergast for sheer volume and blistering heat!!!
I listen to this masterpiece while driving all the time. And to hear and see their vocal perfection in this live clip is just fabulous. Love how the music is designed to NOT compete with them. Classic stuff.
@mrjoshjones1 Haha, i agree with you @ "those lucky bastards seated at the front table stay so damn stoic" during this performance. I was thinking the same thing when i watch an old clip of The Jacksons performing and MJ was was singing his heart out and those "bastards" were just sitting there like *yawn* "when is this going to be over with?" lol. Smh, they just didnt get it. I would be up out of my seat singing along!!
@kariebeez I don't mean act loud and rowdy with it, but they could have been more enthused. The artists are motivated by the energy from the crowd. They could've just as easily been clapping and snapping along as they sat in their seats in appreciation of the music/artist, so i stand by my statement.
i love the Dells..my older brother that passed away(R.I.P)use to always listen oldies when i was a kid..so when i hear this music, it brings my Brother back and those times we had..So now when i play this music with my own kids the music lives on..Wish i could sang like these Men..i know i'd make some Jams..

Omg, they'll never be another amaze sing group (today) like there was with The Bells. The Bells had (to me) such a emotional connection (vocally) with people that were lacking in The Temptations singing at times. But because of there popularity and the machine called Motown, The Bells's sound were kind of over looked and been underrated ever since.~Phurdrick

This is the absolute-best performance ever by the Mighty Dells.
I don't want to use profanity to describe the magnificence of this scene,
shall I say mesmerizing?
Marvin Jr is what every SOUL singer strived to become.
The Dells....flawless and once in a lifetime.

Ain't nothing like a Mighty Dells performance, in their "prime" nonetheless.

How do those lucky bastards seated at the front tables stay so damn
stoic during a Mighty Dells performance?!?!?!?!?!?!
That was an Soul-crowd, not a damn soul would be seated.
Look up "perfection" in Webster's.....a picture of Michael,Chuck,Marvin Jr, Johnny
Carter & Verne will appear.
