I still use one of these aluminum/aluminium MacBooks and I use it for making HD movies using FCP without any problems. What I like about these laptops is that they are really rugged, despite folks thinking that Macs are just expensive toys. I use em because they are so reliable and I prefer the software apps and hey, if I'm in the mood, I just boot up into Windows, running natively.
There is actually a laptop from HP that has a batter that last for up to 24 hours... And Apple is bragging about their superior battery?? Wow Apple sure thinks they make the best things when in actuality they do not...

That's right.. MACBOOK Pro is by far the best choice.. Apple just has great product in general. The only thing I don't like is the keyboard for my IMAC that little thin one and the mouse because I type a lot in between graphic work and using excel for spreadsheets and word for essays and resumes. It really hurts my wrists so I plugged in my old logitech wireless keyboard to it along with its mouse and its great. I've been enjoying my imac and now I can a Macbook Pro The news ones coming out soon

@rednes800 oh yeah I know, we have those at my school. It's pretty much the same as the wireless one because it is still thin. It doesn't have any wrist support and the mouse would be fine, except it is not as fast as my logitech mouse even though I go into System Preferences and change it to fast it still doesn't compare. I'm going between the 13.3" and the nicer sized 15.4". I like that iLife is included with rhe 15.4". That may be a deal breaker! But its the $1600 to $1800 price tag that ha me on the fence. The 13.3" is only $1200.
HA! Please I have a FX-7801u with a 9800M GTS. Faster than a 9400 and at the same price. Plus games are rarely available for macs. Try playing crysis on a Mac without bootcamp (thats when you use Windows XP). FOOL! But in older laptop computers via use of hackintosh, I prefer using Mac OS than XP. I have it dual booted. Yeah, the best of both worlds :).

i prefer buying a pc with more specs tbf. if you want to have some element of gaming on your computer then use a pc. use a mac if your ok with paying so much for less specs. cause thats what it came down to for me. on a mac equivelent to my pc i would have gotten half the ram, half the processing power and almost a an 8th the graphics power. but im considering an ipad to carry files around though, so there is a sunthesis of both companys. i prefer pc for my home computing and ipad for the othrs
your right Macs arent good for gaming, but i think people forget the professional programs macs come with, mainly being iMovie and GarageBand. So for the price you pay it's a pretty sweet deal if your into that. Now if you don't do movies or music then stick with a PC and get an iPod like everyone else haha

The White Macbooks (I own one) Are good. As in It is Apple. I have dropped it 3 times. It still works. No cracks in the areas were it drooped. Then again the two times it droped it was in a cushy lap top bag and the 3rd time it dropped 3-4 inches.
The mouse sometimes sticks. It is a pain to clean. It can be a little slow and as many PVC products have... They chip.

No not true. If you build a PC yourself you can easily get it to exceed mac specifications and seriously pay about 20% of the price. Note, that I am talking about PC's here and not laptops! If you think about it, my Mac is running on an intel processor with a Nvidia card in it and I think some other parts are not fully made by apple as well. Just like the actual chipset in the airport.
If you need a pc, buy a pc. You can get a pc with an i7 processor 8gb of ram a good card etc. for less.

True. I agree. BUT, the caveat is that you have warranties from multiple companies for each component. I gave up building systems about two years ago and now accept the purchase of a computer a tool from a single company...Apple, HP, Dell, Lenovo, etc. No more hobby systems for me.
Having said all of that, a macbook is superior than any laptop I have seen in my opinion. Great battery combined with good specs and great design. It just gets a little hot.

You can't run an exe natively on a Mac, else there would be no need for Parallels. There needs to be a conversion somewhere, therefore it's not "full speed".
Games that require DirectX will run poorly, if at all, on anything that isn't Windows, I know that. Macs have only recently got some commercial support, look back 5-6 years ago.

ur cool, i gave a thumbs up. i only got my macbook cuz it looks cool and i got money 2 fling. its not completely useless there are some things that makes it better than the PC. for example the Disk Utility makes formating and etc much faster than the windows variant. its much lighter and much more mobile than most laptops but not as much as a netbook. all in all the Macbook is powerful but the Mac OS X does not utilize it to its fullest potential

You're right, OSX is bloated, and so is Windows for that matter. Machines that come with OSX are okay, but they're not worth the money at all, no matter how much of it you have.
And just so you know, there are even better, free, applications that beat OSX native ones. The best disk utility software I've ever used is called "Gparted" though it only runs natively on Linux or from LiveCD.

I have looked at the specs, and I can build a better computer for cheaper. Maybe not ridiculously small, or brushed aluminium, but I can build it and save myself hundreds.
As for laptops, you have a point there. Good laptops are hard to build. Apple seems to think shinier exterior = better computer nowadays, just look at that Macbook Air. Poor specs and connectivity for a laptop, yet it's so expensive.
You make a good point on the Macbook Air... lol, I myself would not by one.
However MacBook Pro (I bought a 2.66Ghz to replace a dell studio) 15.4" has quite a list of specs. However the pricetag is quite hefty.
The reason I think you pay more for Macs are, yes, the brushed alumium, and the 'proprietary factor', however I've got a 9600M Discrete graphics chip... that's pretty awesome.
Only thing I don't like about BIY laptops are they usually don't look 'pretty'. I know, i'm shallow, lol
The "mac tax" is crazy. Apple tries to compensate for the price by making things look shiny and by adding animations whenever you open a program or open a video. I could buy or build a computer with the exact same, or better specs and still same hundreds of dollars. When you buy a mac, you pay for the polish, and not the innards.
I am limited on time right now, but after about ten minutes of searching I found a Lenovo IdeaPad with 15.3" screen, 4 gigs of DDR3, intel core 2 duo p7450, and all the input and output ports anyone would ever need (HDMI out, DVI out, cat5, firewire, media card reader, 3 usb, with webcam, and DVD burner)
All for $900, sure does beat the 1500 I would have to pay.
Processor is no match (2.1Ghz) I doubt for $900 you get a very good graphics card..... so I'd like to see 1080p playback on that card...

Being a web & graphic designer, i generally hit my PCs pretty hard. I bought the MBP 2.66Ghz for $2300CAD, it's quite a bit, but you don't usually get good quality hardware, and fast processors for that money.
I'm sure your right on the first part of your statement about other top-notch brands and equipment out there that are even better than the gear at Best BUY. Two out of the five manufacturers I listed are soled in Best Buy, BIG DEAL. Chances are you dont know what Festool is or Sawstop, unless youre a REAL woodworker. BUT!!! Read on in next segment!!!!!

Yeah. I'm a pc user and my cousin has a mac. My pc does EVERY THING HIS DOES!!!!! Edit videos, crop pictures, And everything else. I can make my PC do all that. The PC I'm using is 1 TB And it's the fastest damn computer! Never crashed ONCE!!!!!! In fact, I have a 14 year old PC ad it's never crashed! Oh, and you can't game on a mac. Also all the GOOD software is for PC. LOL
That's not the point I'm making. Sure Mac's are fairly good for photo&video editing, but its way to expensive and if you wan to play any games (besides the few that you can run on macs) you are going to need a pc anyway. So therefore, save yourself all the trouble and buy one in the first place.

Now that the macs have the nvidea 9400mgt, games run great. Mostly on high settings at full resolution and it never gets hot or dips below 20fps.

The White Macbooks (I own one) Are good. As in It is Apple. I have dropped it 3 times. It still works. No cracks in the areas were it drooped. Then again the two times it droped it was in a cushy lap top bag and the 3rd time it dropped 3-4 inches.
The mouse sometimes sticks. It is a pain to clean. It can be a little slow and as many PVC products have... They chip.
As a fully converted Apple user... Windows can go take a flying leap! Bill Gates is a self centered jerk.

You will never understand why people pay a FIXED PRICE on something so expensive. It's to protect the brand equity of the product. Only superior products from companies like Apple, Festool, John Deere, Sawstop, and Bose carry such a protection. Fixed pricing is the reason why the very best innovations and cutting edge technology comes from these prestigious companies. With out it, these companies would lose monumental ground on the rest of the competition.

I think that a lot of people buy macs for looks. My bro did. He likes it because of all the annoying animations and the looks.
When I asked him how convenient the os was, he said that it was so easy to use. Ten minutes later, I watched him spend a half an hour trying to get the computer to recognize an HP printer.
Yet, he still loves his overpriced, shiny laptop for no good reason.

Look, if you are buying a mac to run windows...then there's no use in that. Just get a PC, it will be cheaper and you can use windows whatever you want. The only people I know of that really use win on a mac are developers and designers who like to test stuff cross platform.

yes there is. Simply put, a Mac is a premium Windows Capable PC, the manu. decided to put their own proprietary made-in-house OS on it. If you put Windows or Linux on it, you still have 30 years of industrial design experience, better-than-most customer service and support, and nifty design features. Why do you think Sony(unfortunately), still exists, its computers are in the same price bracket as Apple's, although much less deservedly.

No not true. If you build a PC yourself you can easily get it to exceed mac specifications and seriously pay about 20% of the price. Note, that I am talking about PC's here and not laptops! If you think about it, my Mac is running on an intel processor with a Nvidia card in it and I think some other parts are not fully made by apple as well. Just like the actual chipset in the airport.
If you need a pc, buy a pc. You can get a pc with an i7 processor 8gb of ram a good card etc. for less.

True. I agree. BUT, the caveat is that you have warranties from multiple companies for each component. I gave up building systems about two years ago and now accept the purchase of a computer a tool from a single company...Apple, HP, Dell, Lenovo, etc. No more hobby systems for me.

Because there are no Mac-only programs worth running and everyone knows it. Twitter clients and other social bullshit programs don't count.
And I could if I wanted to, I installed OSX on a spare desktop a few weeks ago as a proof of concept and it worked as it should. Complete waste of space though, deleted it the next day.
Macs also don't run Windows programs natively, you need to boot into Windows or emulate it, the latter being slower and my original point stands. Your argument is invalid.

You can't run an exe natively on a Mac, else there would be no need for Parallels. There needs to be a conversion somewhere, therefore it's not "full speed".
Games that require DirectX will run poorly, if at all, on anything that isn't Windows, I know that. Macs have only recently got some commercial support, look back 5-6 years ago.
Also, keep thumbs downing me. When I make debatable posts on videos like this, more thumbs downs than replies means I'm winning :D.

ur cool, i gave a thumbs up. i only got my macbook cuz it looks cool and i got money 2 fling. its not completely useless there are some things that makes it better than the PC. for example the Disk Utility makes formating and etc much faster than the windows variant. its much lighter and much more mobile than most laptops but not as much as a netbook. all in all the Macbook is powerful but the Mac OS X does not utilize it to its fullest potential

You're right, OSX is bloated, and so is Windows for that matter. Machines that come with OSX are okay, but they're not worth the money at all, no matter how much of it you have.
And just so you know, there are even better, free, applications that beat OSX native ones. The best disk utility software I've ever used is called "Gparted" though it only runs natively on Linux or from LiveCD.

A lot of good points being raised by replies to my comments, I'm impressed.
I have looked at the specs, and I can build a better computer for cheaper. Maybe not ridiculously small, or brushed aluminium, but I can build it and save myself hundreds.
As for laptops, you have a point there. Good laptops are hard to build. Apple seems to think shinier exterior = better computer nowadays, just look at that Macbook Air. Poor specs and connectivity for a laptop, yet it's so expensive.

You make a good point on the Macbook Air... lol, I myself would not by one.
However MacBook Pro (I bought a 2.66Ghz to replace a dell studio) 15.4" has quite a list of specs. However the pricetag is quite hefty.
The reason I think you pay more for Macs are, yes, the brushed alumium, and the 'proprietary factor', however I've got a 9600M Discrete graphics chip... that's pretty awesome.
Only thing I don't like about BIY laptops are they usually don't look 'pretty'. I know, i'm shallow, lol

The "mac tax" is crazy. Apple tries to compensate for the price by making things look shiny and by adding animations whenever you open a program or open a video. I could buy or build a computer with the exact same, or better specs and still same hundreds of dollars. When you buy a mac, you pay for the polish, and not the innards.

I am limited on time right now, but after about ten minutes of searching I found a Lenovo IdeaPad with 15.3" screen, 4 gigs of DDR3, intel core 2 duo p7450, and all the input and output ports anyone would ever need (HDMI out, DVI out, cat5, firewire, media card reader, 3 usb, with webcam, and DVD burner)
All for $900, sure does beat the 1500 I would have to pay.

Being a web & graphic designer, i generally hit my PCs pretty hard. I bought the MBP 2.66Ghz for $2300CAD, it's quite a bit, but you don't usually get good quality hardware, and fast processors for that money.

Yeah. I'm a pc user and my cousin has a mac. My pc does EVERY THING HIS DOES!!!!! Edit videos, crop pictures, And everything else. I can make my PC do all that. The PC I'm using is 1 TB And it's the fastest damn computer! Never crashed ONCE!!!!!! In fact, I have a 14 year old PC ad it's never crashed! Oh, and you can't game on a mac. Also all the GOOD software is for PC. LOL

That's not the point I'm making. Sure Mac's are fairly good for photo&video editing, but its way to expensive and if you wan to play any games (besides the few that you can run on macs) you are going to need a pc anyway. So therefore, save yourself all the trouble and buy one in the first place.
