I agree, the Messerschmitt 262 was particularly vulnerable because they take off and landing, as I read, the jets could not put in top power very quickly because they ran the risk of fire, so they had to go slowly. In this situation a 262 was very vulnerable and could easily be destroyed.

You need to keep in mind this was the death of a national hero and regardless if they knew who brought him down you can bet they'll credit a pilot over a mere grunt.

my Dad never spoke about his kills,never denied it either... however he did say that one guy in his outfit shot down a japanese cargo plane that had Yamamoto in it and found out about it from a tokyo rose broadcast three days later... my dad was sworn to secrecy and knew of the japanese version of the me262 jet that never got to fly for the japanese before the war ended 'cause the ship carrying it was torpedoed.
