good day sir, I just want to ask a few things since I don't have any experience with lap steels. first- does it use the same strings as of a 6 string electric guitar? if yes, can it also be tuned in standard tuning same as of a regular 6 string? last would be about the legs of this instrument. are they easily detachable or are they designed to be in place, thanks!
The strings are a bit heavier than the strings on my acoustic guitar. They are designed for lap steel. The lap steel is shorter in scale and requires heavier strings. I tune to open E so that I have a simple major chord where ever I put the slide. (Easy). The legs unscrew and slide into a travel bag that came with the lapsteel. It packs up into a small size. For less than $100 it's a nice started set.
The original strings will work but I think that you should change them ASAP anyway. Those strings ride all the way from China in an ocean container. New strings = much better tone. It's always a great $6 investment.
I just looked at pictures on Musicians Friend......I think they are are one in the same. The lap steel and leg supports and carry bag are exactly the same.
I've very happy. It stays in tune. The pickup is OK. I use a DynaComp compressor to bring out the pop and twang. It's good. Not fantastic but good. I'm a guitar player. I hope to learn and put some lap steel parts in some of my recordings. I got twice what I paid for.
Music 123 had a deal last week where you get a free Lap Dawg slide (worth $23) when you order the EA-3. You can't go wrong.
Thanks for the info. I ordered one Rogue EA-3 from Musicians friend a few days ago.
I am also going to order one StarFire lapsteel that I found on ebay. That one looks good too.
Hawaiian guitar is great for many different kind of music. I have played that for seven years, playing East Indian classical and folk music. Then I quite for many years and now I want to re-start.

They sell for at least &600.
A Gibson Skylark is indeed better but remember that the Rigue costs $75 new!

A lap steel has an adjustable saddle just like an electric guitar. You can adjust the length of each string to perfect the intonation.
You play with a slide rather than frets but the strings still need to intonate in relation to one another.
Adjusting each string (longer or shorter) perfects the intonation between strings.
You can google "setting guitar intonation" and find lots of good web sites with pictures and instructions.
I still google the topic before I adjust a guitar.

Just wondered how you set the intonation since it can't be fretted?
