  • they are make all our Gadgets; cell phones, computers, gaming, electronics etc. sure the CEO's get rich, but WE buy the products!

SHAME on us all ! Republicans? Democrats? No! CONSUMERS!

  • In a counter argument to StAndrewAuckland2010's post, they earn less than minimum wage for working over 12 hours in ONE DAY! Working 10 hours in America, you get 80 or so dollars. Now they should be thanking us?!

  • all big citys look like that

  • Those living conditions aren't that bad. Stop trying to purpetuate something that isn't there.

  • @newdispensation1 Living conditions are sort of beside the point... they're treated badly for all the work they've done. Would you like to live there?

  • He makes 250 dollars a month. No wonder American companies send jobs to China...it's slave labor...pennies on the dollar

  • @macroevolve: 250 dollars X 6 = approx. 1500 Yuan. Of course thats not much money, but think about what that can buy in China.

  • Such nice people. :D

  • Damn now that's a long vacation. Shit if I wanted to take 15 days off I would be fucking fired!!!

  • Right wing propaganda. Shit they should come to my hood.

  • hey its a free market right just remember that next time you go to walmart people

  • I'd love to see how long any American would work and live in these kinds of conditions for 70 cents an hour, until they start begging for unions and fair wages.

  • @drockan Why would you love to see someone suffer?

  • It is clear that the reporter has never seen other countries workers' "dormitories" of other countries like Indonesia, Philippine etc. We can say definitively that China's dormitory, with their very simple condition of life, etc, is much better than many other countries. Furthermore The fact that China is able to provide the job to hundreds of million of its people is already athing that we have to appreciated.

  • @StAndrewAuckland2010 so because other countries are even worse they should be happy? how about we flip that around and look at the countries that are doing so much better? shouldn't people strive to improve instead of saying "hey some people are doing worse" and just settling?

  • WOW. China closes a factory for 15 days? I thought they worked people 24/7 365

  • omg.. FUCK CNN so many lies

  • This really makes me sad how people are treated around the world...so much suffering to make Walmart's CEO's richer. This should be on the news so something could be done about it. This is what Republicans want in America too-no union, no collective bargaining, etc...they are so cold-hearted and greedy.

  • @shawnspeed3 Democrats and Liberals are some of the biggest supporters of China ever. The Liberal parents that want to spoil their children rotten with so many new toys so often, for such cheap prices are what got us into the situation we are in.

  • @MIKON8ERISBACK more the toys now its tv fridge ac stove oven everything we are all to blame

  • @ecosby100 Exactly. Although some electronics have parts that are made in the USA and Japan, but are assembled in China and sometimes Mexico.

  • @shawnspeed3 agreed

  • @shawnspeed3 I think you should do a little more research before running down the Republicans. Find out who is REALLY receiving kick backs and money from rich CEO's. Hint...look to the "Left".

  • @shawnspeed3 I don't blame it on any one political party. It is the result apathy and greed around the world on all ends of the political spectrum. The conditions at this factory are nice compared to some factories I saw in South Africa.

The bottom line is, we can not wait around waiting for the status quo to fix imbalances in the world. We must do what we can on an individual level to played our part as global citizens. Too big a gap between rich and poor, producer and consumer.

  • this is the country that wants to be the next EMPIRE pfff.. what a shame..

  • @tiburcio9999 America started out with pretty shitty conditions too.

  • @kimikittykitty67 china has been around a hell of a lot longer than america...

  • @veksink yeah but America looks down at these kinds of factories and forgets that people lived like shit here too, still some do. Yeah I know China has been around a lot longer.

  • every country passes through this stage ...before becoming fully developed country.that's true for China , india , Brazil all.Have Americans not faced the dangerous life before American civil war.

  • what a sad sub-sistence...

  • umm

  • this is what should be happening in africa, theres a huge workforce and vast resources

  • Honestly, I have a say in this:

I live in an RV in the Arizona desert that is about the size of that room with 3 other people. It's fine. There are few jobs here, and the manager at McDonalds works from 5:30 AM to 11 PM 7 days a week, including Christmas for only $5.15 per hour.

    Seriously-

People think China is bad? Ever seen an American factory? People here don't follow the laws. I've seen workers on the job almost 90 hours straight, using their wages for coffee or anything to keep working

  • These conditions are far better than those of the Mattel workers near Shenzhen. They have 12 to 20 stuffed into a room. The only place 4 personal property is on their cot. Wages r so low that they can't survive outside the factory dorms. 12 hrs is a total whitewashing of the conditions of most Chinese factory slaves. Many work an average of 16 hrs/day, & sometimes work up to 20 hrs/day for several days straight. As always, the work wk is 7 days. Google: Liveleak.com Santa's Workshop China.

  • the music is annoying but otherwise interesting

  • Well their philosophy is "Help and country, and that way improve the living standards of the Chinese nation". One day they are all going to enjoy luxury!!

  • The human race is so disgusting, I know there are ones who wants to make the world a better place....but most would try to profit from others suffering...without any remorse. I'm guilty of this as I shop at Walmart sometime.

  • But we're all happy to buy cheap goods!

  • should i feel bad for these chinks? HA HA HA HA

  • @Bigjohnnywad naaa u shoundnd, jsut feel happy that you only care about urself and ur race :]

  • @qwertyjan4 Yes I do thank you-Every man for himself

  • Could be worse. For those in the US, you know those Chinese restaurants that you regularly go to every week for Chinese food? Most of the Chinese who work there typically work 13 hrs a day, 6 days a week. 5 days vacation a year plus thanksgiving and xmas. No insurance or benefits. You get docked for sick days. Pay varies based on job and location/state but it's not very good.

So how is that very different from what you see in the vid......

  • @Keius01

Difference is, that the ones in the US are a minority, where as in China, they are in a majority.

  • I would rather die that work in one of these factories 12 hours a day, 7 days a week and live in these filthy dump dormitories...how do these people just accept this?

  • @ThaDagR

All the rights the western workers have today are paid for by many lives during strikes and actions against the factory owners.

These people in China still need to go through similar experiences to begin to understand that certain things are not acceptable.

However, if I run a business I would say that they are paid too much and they are lazy and stupid and cost me a fortune.

Read Marx and Noam Chomsky and others. Exploitation of the proletariat.

  • 300 USD a month.....that's like 11,000 Rupees, damn hell, that is what startup Engineers make in India. And the dormitories I see in this video remind me of India's very own MIG (Medium Income Group) housing.

Guys CHina is a middle income country, pls don't compare it to a developed country. Compare China living standards w/ living standard in say- India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, or any other developing country.

Factory workers in India make 50 USD a month, MANY live in pavements.

  • @xxxdieselyyy ---2--------->U can't expect a US or an EU lifestyle in a medium income locale. Whjen ppl talk about life in China, it would be FAR more accurate if it's compared w/ life in other similar (even democratic) middle income countries.

I'd rather b a factory worker in China than 1 in Philippines or India any day fo sho!

  • My experience is that Chinese people like to live very densely in tiny little apartments.

  • Check out the Chinese import tariffs. No wonder we're being undercut here, we can't export on a level playing field.

  • Drag the CEOs and the Wall Streeters into the street.

  • this is sad and it breaks my heart. Doen't buy anything made in China.

  • @thandieu222001

are u stupid or what... ofc our goverment cares about our citizens... so u think 400million people getting out of poverty is nothing??? or what??... this is few people china ... ... i mean there is 1.3billion people i think it normal some people suffer

  • Comment removed

  • maybe you should stop talkin to stop humuliating your self infront of the world.

or maybe you should go to china and go infront of the chinese government and yall the statement you just made if you really mean it. i mean if ya want to see the bad side of the chinese gov so bad why not go over there and do everything that the law prohibts you to do??? good idea right?

  • chinese are building millions of high rise apartments, cant they all fit into the new apartments?

chinese cities like shanghai, beijing, shenzhen, guangzhou, etc etc are like forests of highrises, and they are building more, but still, you see people live in squalars like this

  • @trafalgarstreet you know how many millions live in those cities? come on now theres 1.3 billions of them imagine newyork X 3 ...

  • no wounder they send every ones jobs to china make factory workers work 7 days a week

  • all these people slaving away for fat lazy americans to buy more crap they don't need

This worlds priorities are so messed up

  • @1x93cm wake up, dumbass....the average life span of a chink has increased considerably and his quality of life has drastically improved because of americans....these people were starving to death and had terribly pathetic lives prior to making shit for us, now go play in traffic

  • @yahoopl3 wth do i care what happens on the other side of the planet long as i get my cheap crap at the local chinamart

so they lived in rural mud huts prior to making cheap crap- who cares unless you lived in china and your life was made better by the local concentration construction company

nobody gives a damn about india and thier mudhut peasants same with africa

i guess the serfs should just take what they can get and stfu

  • @1x93cm no dumbass...people do care about the starving shits in africa and india...what do you think those "we are the world" songs are about...also, the usa has given more fucking aid to africa than all other nations combined...and guess what...it doesn't fucking help, because the retarded asses keep fucking ahd having kids...the only way to improve their nations is to improve their economies, and that is what is happening with china, stop your fucking whining, idiot...i'm done with you

  • @yahoopl3 The only way to improve their economy is to introduce better wages and working conditions: this can be done while maintaining the demand the for labor, because labor is less than 1/100 of the cost of many of the cheap retail wares produced in developing nations and profits are sky high. Economies are in some cases getting worse than they were before industrialization: that case could be made for Bangladesh. Improved wages and conditions are necessary for steady economic development.

  • @musicalidea "The only way to improve their economy is to introduce better wages and working conditions"....um, son....wake up call...their economy has already drastically improved in the past 10 years just because they're making all of our shit. TRADE is their only hope. Better wages come later. In the meantime, the chink slant eyed shits need to stop fucking so much and make less babies, control their fucking population (which won't happen thanks to the USA feeding them).

  • @yahoopl3 You're an idiot six ways to sunday.

  • @PonguigPeopinn my, what a great repertiore...impressive wit being slung all over the place...you fucking imbecile

  • @yahoopl3 you spelt repertoire wrong douche bag.

Reviewing your comment, I stand by my position that you know jack shit.

  • @PonguigPeopinn you stand by being a 3 foot tall midget doing scat porn you ignorant dick sucker, and there is a difference between a typo and misspelling a simple word like "spelled"....ENGLISH, fuck face...speak it...write it...now go play in traffic

  • @yahoopl3 you misspelt your correction of my supposed typo, spelt is spelt "spelt."

perhaps you should go to school and learn economics instead of learneding it from youtube videos.

  • @PonguigPeopinn see sonny, that's the problem...there is no spelt...just like there is no brain in your vacuous head :)

  • @yahoopl3 I think you spelled spelled wrong moron.

btw if "spelt" is a nonexistent word then why doesn't my spellcheck identify it as such?

  • @PonguigPeopinn I find it amusing that you feel you have the capacity to think, and perhaps your little spell check is as challenged as you, dimwit.

  • @yahoopl3 You are a waste of space. you are mean and ignorant. when you open your foul mouth a little bit of the ozone layer depleats. poison inside you is spilling out and you really should shut the fuck up you stupid dope racist moron.

it is people like you who make contraception appealing!

  • @avoidthegrassok oh shut up you piece of shit...instead of writing facts all you do is whine about me schooling you with logic.....make the world a better place and go jump off a bridge head first

  • @yahoopl3 You are the ignorant detritus that takes the given lot as the optimal one - both in regard to his own servitude and that of others less fortunate. The productive capacity already exceeds the needs of these countries expanding populations; it is inhibited by the legal restrictions that favor those who maintain arbitrary proprietary access to the means of production. "Growth" would be occurring at a far faster rate were labor's share of income increased. No use arguing with vermin.

  • Injustice happens everywhere.

Worst of all in China, you may not even talk about it.

  • this hoggdawn guy is he fucking kidding me?

child labor 14 hour days no weekends.

thats not living in life thats torture.

  • that's how it is everywhere else in the world except fucking America, Europe, Japan and Australia/NZ

  • 250 USD in China is about twice that in purchasing power

  • it's better than where from them come the inner china

  • Geez the pay sux, it's less than half of Canadian wellfare lol

  • The Chinese peasant will never see wage inflation. The Chinese subsustence worker will neve get a raise, they will never prosper beyond their present condition. The labor unions are state controlled, and the multinational corporations make sure that they stay real friendly with the state. The U.S. has lost 40,000 manufacturing plants to Asia, I couldn't guess how many Western Europe has lost. A 50% tariff will force multinationals back to the U.S.

  • My great grandfather started working in the Coal Mines in England at 13 years old. It's called progress!

  • In the late 50's and early 60's Southern Textile workers earned $1.35 hour x 40 hrs. = $54.00 a week. = $216.00 month. As you know textiles slowly went to lower wage countries. Textiles follow low wage countries. China will most likely cut hours as they get more prosperous.

  • Americans experienced this 100 years ago coal mines and child labor back in the day!!

  • SAD

  • CNN? yea, sure, their trustworthy.

  • somebody's got to make my nikes lol

  • Chinese workers work long hours and get low pay. No one else on earth would accept that. This is because of their huge labor pool---over 1 billion people.

  • If you look at India, southern Asia, or most of Latin America you always see the same thing: low pay and long hours. That is really the international norm and the way that North America and Europe used to be.

  • Yes they really want to leave, but it's because it's the Chinese New Year! They want to go home and see their family and relatives. Saying it's because the conditions are bad is like saying some US office worker wants to leave for home just before Thanksgiving/Xmas starts because his office conditions are bad.

As for the USD250/month wage. USD0.70 can buy you lunch in China. Yes it's not a lot of money in US terms, but it's not like the USA welcomes them to work in Walmart in USA for $7/hour.

  • its bad, but these people live great lives compared to the people of North Korea. look them up on youtube and see the difference

  • These living conditions are not that bad I've seen other places that are far worse. This is like middle class for the Chinese. I have an asian friend here in the US and he has lived here for 8 years. He has a nice apartment and money but still won't buy furniture and he prefers to sleep on the bare floor I tell him he is crazy but thats how they live.

  • asians like to save thier money

    americans like to spend/gamble/invest

  • save for what? I don't understand. If your housing and bills are paid then why not spend your money on things that you want that make your life easier and more entertaining?

Usually only very wealthy Americans invest, which only about 5% of people in America are actually wealthy, and maybe 20% earn a descent wage despite what the Media and World views portray. It's not as glorious and glamorous as people think many are disappointed when they arrive and see that nothing is just handed to them.

  • Asians have lived through many years of hardship and those groups of people generally like to save for a "rainy day".

Part of the reason why the economic crisis is going on is because Americans ASSUMED that their houses are increasing in value. So they go on shopping sprees but realise now that their houses are depreciating in value.

  • Thats smart of them to save so much, I'm more of a saver then a spender myself, And Yes I admit that it has helped since I have been able to live off my savings for 5 months now since I lost my job due to this economic crisis. But in a few more months I might be homeless with 2 college degrees, what has the world come to?

  • its sad to think about that you might be homeless but with 2 college degress im sure you can get a good job somewhere get a job aid or something i had to do that at one point

  • I've lived in China and these living conditions are very much working class. Middle class families in China have their own condos and sometimes more than one condos.

  • if it wasn't for us (westerners) the chinese would even have that .80 cents an hour they get from us, so be thankfull

  • If it wasn't the chinese exported so many goods to US, you know how poor you will be? Be thankful too.

  • instead of spending money for nukes, spend some for these people, the chinese government is the most corrupt government there is, and the chinese people are so weak for not doing anything about it

  • I have seen a lot of this kind of WalMart bashing. I think it is all bogus because all the producer did is to look at the situation according to US standard. I grew up in worst condition that what is shown in this video. And my parents didn't even work for Walmart. They just tried to make ends meet. Walmart is actually bringing these people some money instead of letting them starve. Americans are just too spoiled to have welfare and they don't understand have a job is better than none.

  • did you no more then hafe the people that work at walmart are on welfare cuz walmart is to cheap to pay them more then 7 bucks a hour what bullshit that is and if you dont belive me watch the movie high cost of low prices it will tell you how good walmart is

  • Yeah I know, I used to work there. I was making $10.50 but only because I worked there for 4 years... oh yeah and I'm white and speak English, I'm sure others were making minimum wage or lower. I was still broke all the time and could barely afford to pay rent and to feed/cloth myself, my wife and child.

  • yes walmart is cheap...i used to work for them and made only 15.65 a hour

  • $15.65/hr? A factory worker that produces goods for Walmart earns only a few cents an hour.

  • i guess thats why they were able to pay me so much...lol

  • What a fucking shit hole and abomination to the human spirit civilization has brought us. Stuff, shit and more shit, materialism, like a cancerous ideology raping it's vile slime filed tendrils around the globe. Fuck you western society!

  • hmm...they had such a hardtime just to earn about $300 per month..makes me feel lucky born in my country...although we have factory workers but the total income is much better compared to this..I know that being a factory worker means u have to sacrifice a lot of ur time for a little income..cuz i've been through that..sometime it makes u sick &stressed up...

  • mizzpg - u r forgetting something called "purchasing power parity". In China we can buy a bag of 2 pound (1kg) rice for 3 Chinese dollars (1RMB = 8USD)

In America, 2 pounds of rice would cost 4-5 US dollars. Which means its 32-40 Chinese dollars. Therefore, that is why our wages are lower but our prices for most things are FAR FAR FAR cheaper than the West.

btw u can enjoy a VERY good life in China for just 10 000 USD a year. If u r in the US, you will probably starve to death

  • you wont starve to death on 10k a year only if your liveing at home and have NO BILLs then i guess you would be ok

  • I guess the "home" you speak of is a broken down shack with no TV, fridge or electronic appliance. Also most likely no girl because she would have run away oready

  • no dumb fuck im talking about if your liveing at home as in with your mom and dad stupid ass think be for you say stupid shit i no i said at home but no where did i say a shack

  • China knows how to take care of their people.

It's called Asswipe.Save your rice and if all stop working for a few months things will change.

  • Why does china need the north American market or any market for that matter? Don't they have the man power and technology to do for them self?

  • edudrepus - there is a simple economic term called "absolute advantage".

North Americans can not efficiency produce as fast and as efficiently as Chinese. So they bring their products here to be made. Then they take their products back to USA to apply higher end technological processing

  • Who was the Chinese political leader that really opened up china to the west? Why did he do that?

  • Deng Xiaoping opened up the Chinese market to the West.

The reason is quite simple. No country can efficiently produce everything. So by opening up the country, China could acquire superior American technology for example like e.g cellphones and cars. While Americans can benefit from cheaper labor meaning lower consumer prices.

  • Interesting. I always thought that Asia in general and by default China had superior technology to the west particularly in the electronics sector. How does the average Chinese resident view china's opening up to the west?

  • "China had superior technology to the west particularly in the electronics sector" - its not that Western people are better at electronics. But rather a small group of Westerners who attend universities like MIT and Caltech, go on to produce great things.

The average person see it with mix feelings. American culture is cool. Western culture is good. But there is also fear of Western imperialism especially from USA

  • Why can't China produce "great things" through their universities or otherwise? Is that part of modern Chinese culture? Does modern China not support a culture that would bring about the invention of "great things"?

  • Yes but what about your Sanlu milk special? Don't you think that created fear and havoc across the world?

  • It is Western media that capitalised on the Sanlu Milk as well as the faulty products to demonise us. It is THEIR fault for creating this havoc.

It is also their fault for been soo idiotic to not check for food standards. Its not only the Chinese that have to beware but also the Westerners must be careful of what they buy.

  • You mean it is the western media that put melamine in the milk? I guess Bush did it!

PRCForever, do you know how many innocent Chinese babies died and how many more are sick because of Sanlu? China has no standards.

As long as China refuses to have standards they will always be a backwards nation.

  • Are they stuffing a cat?

  • Looks like college

  • I wish the chinese goverment would do something about workers rights!!!

I mean this people have to suffer alot. :(

  • americans talk shit about the chinese but they're in a deeper hole economically. they borrow money from all over the world, especially china to fund their war in the mid east. the chinese are buying up your companies and soon, their economy will gross more than yours. moving from boardwalk to park place so soon? fuck you white boy, you're stupid.

  • China and Usa need each other.

The buyer needs the seller. And the seller needs the buyer. :)

  • 15 days off, thats a lot, even compared to the US

  • yeah, but considering the fact they only get 15 days off out of 365 days. in the US they get multiple holidays and added up is probably more than in the US. (not the mention many people can leave for vacations if they want, these workers cannot unless they want to leave their job completely)

  • chinese people also have other holidays (1/1,5/1,10/1, etc ). they call 5/1 and 10/1 "golden week" cause they can get a whole week for vacation.

  • And this is why people in America are losing jobs. People should fight to keep their jobs at home!

  • hahah

  • The Chinese will work for peanuts..they are like circus animals!!!

  • Maybe you should trade places with them!!,since you act like an animal yourself eh!! LOL

  • is this a jail?

    這是刑務所嗎?

  • Hey I don't think they give shit!! about your commends LOL

  • and they want to enjoy your hard earned money! yey! now everybody's happy!!!

  • The high price of cheap labor...

  • well that sucks! wish they could make about 10000% more for those hours!

  • hahaha

  • Yes, Chinese sweatshops must come to an end very soon. It is those U.S. contractors, especially Wal-Mart, who are using these Chinese sweatshops.

  • hahaha

  • @TediusZanarukando

Blaming Walmart does not fix the problem though it only covers it up. People in China have to want better on there own , you cannot blame people for taking advantage of a good situation when it is offered to them. China is a major power and it is only becoming stronger , I imagine eventually they will be making more then people in the states.

  • @Monarch816 We are owned, and soon will become China's bitch :(

  • @TediusZanarukando It is going to come to an end soon enough, and then it will be us working in sweat shops. It's coming soon.

  • @TediusZanarukando they will end as wages go up making the jobs uneconomical so these have to close and move to other countries.

  • @markinu Yes, that's good news. I hope these sweatshops end soon. Those jobs will probably move to North and South America. Those poor Chinese people will one day enjoy their future freedom.

  • @markinu The workers in Chinese sweatshops are often locked up in their dormitories with no heating or cooling. The guards routinely use violence against the workers for talking back to managers, defying or questioning sweatshop policies, or even walking too fast. They also fine them for using the restroom too long. This one reason why the sweatshops should close.

  • That's not fair that ain't right amd it needs a stop to it
