Wow, did Mickey Most have any idea what the Yardbirds were about? Maybe if he recorded their cover of "Im Waiting for the Man" instead the Yardbirds career might've been salvaged. Most captured the grit and the edge of the Animals and Jeff Beck but why not these guys?
No, Jimmy Page was not on this song, neither were Chris Dreja and Jim McCarthy. The only member of the Yardbirds, who was heard here was Keith Relf. So in fact it was not a real Yardbird song but merely a Keith relf solo.
No. Cousin Brucie was on WABC in New York City and now he's still here on XM/Sirius radio on satellite. WKBW in Buffalo had greats like Joey Reynolds who's now on WOR in New York City and Shane Brother Shane who's now retired. Buffalo radio was one of the great undiscovered treasures of the 60's, 70's, and 80's.
I really have to say, if any other band had done this, I wouldn't think it was so charming. But how can you not love it? Its very quirky and different. And Keith sounds so cute saying 'haha.' It makes me smile, and that is a good thing about the Yardbirds. They always make me smile.
This was one of my first musical memories at the end of the 60s -- but Ikonos hit it on the head... a song no one wanted... but still, good radio fodder... RIP Yardbirds
If another band had done this version, it would have been really okay. But for the Yardbirds, it was much below par. Producer Mickey Most forced the Yardbirds to record this song in his try to commercialice the band, but eventually only Keith Relf was heard on this record, with McCarthy, Dreja and Page replaced by session musicians. This single was one of the nails in the coffin of the Yardbirds, as neither the band nor the fans appreciated it :-(
Nice :-) Didn't know Yardbirds did this too.

If my memory is correct, this was the last Yardbirds' single to chart on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100.
I believe it hit the top 15 in early 1967.

For those disparaging this version, just remember its Jimmy Page on lead guitar.

Just so you know...Keith Relf is the only Yardbird performing on this track. The others didn't want to be associated with this crap.

Why the hell did they cover this crap? Its like a bad Kinks reject

Mickie Most destroyed The Yardbirds career!!!

@Yardbirdsfan they would of probably broke up anyway. Keith Relf was tired of blues music and wanted to do something else.
