In the beginning of the video it is written CAPOEIRA in the wall of the academy, the athlete in 3:31 makes a "MACAQUINHO" (capoeira technique). In 4:49 he has a "RODA" of CAPOEIRA. In 5:04 other movement of the Capoeira. Then several movements of CAPOEIRA. The athlete's base is all of CAPOEIRISTA.
No, he mix capoeira with something else (I believe the mixing is made with tae kwon do, the other fighters' style). But the real Capoeira has the "ginga" movement all the time and it's even more acrobatic, like a dance. They will release an action movie, like those from China with martial arts, based on Capoeira. Look for "Besouro o Filme" (which means 'Beetle the Movie').
i just had a look at marcus vinicuis and while he is an excellent fighter is he capoeira or is he brazilian jui jitsu? and please dont say they are the same thing. Thaks outlaw3051 now i kinda understand why the fights were like that i personally do muay thai and it is crucial to look after your face so i was a little puzzled with there defence
Actually, what he fights is semi-contact. In kickboxing you have semi-contact, light-contact, light-kick amongst others. These are small contact disciplines, not like K-1, muay-thai, full-contact and low-kick, which are KO disciplines.
The others don't raise their hands, because in semi-contact its better to have your guard at the height between your head and neck. You score from one till three points and when it happens the match is stopped and both fighters go back to the center of the tatami
wow, incredible flexibility and athleticism. he also had some nice combos and counters, but i don't understand why none of the fighters had their hands raised. it should become intuitive after getting kicked in the face a few times, or is it illegal in this type of fighting? that could have easily prevented half the hits to head. btw he could do with a little work on his punching, but i guess that's not the focus of capoiera
what was so capoeira about his fighting skill, i did not see trademark moves?? why was he always wearing headgear and half of his opponents werent, lets take of his protection and see him fight. Not one of his opponents fought devensively. if this is the best capoeira has to offer lets see him fight Ramon Dekkers it would be a blood bath. MUAY THAI #1
Its no fair that he wore headgears while the half of ohers didnt, but does it really matter in a semicontact fight, where KO means disqualifiing? No. And he didnt get his head hit if I remember well.I prefer full contact fighting, but this is semicontact, so thats why they didnt fight defensively(you might mean two handed defense),here they need to earn more points.Trademark moves of CapoeiraMeia Lua for example, therewere loads of Meia Luas there. Is RAMD in the sam weightclass? Watch Mestre Hulk.
Point sparring defintely should not be confused with actual fighting or even continuous sparring. But even still you can see he has good fighting instincts. And some of those kicks can KO someone, a heel to the face is just as hard as an elbow or fist but even more powerful. ITs just that it is high risk. As far as capoeira, i don't see him being a capoeirista. He has gymnastic ability through sport karate, but he is not doing capoeira.
In one point in the vid he is doing the jinga (sp?) so I think he does have some capoeira roots, he's just mixed styles, which is to a point what mixed martial arts is about. And KO'ing someone doesn't take as much force as accuracy- all you have to do is hit someone along one of the major arteries that provide flow to the brain hard enough to momentarily stop the blood. I've done it with a simple quick backhand to the side of the neck- not so much force as accuracy...
It's not always. If you are a very great Mestre, you can use it effectively, for misleading of course. Watch Allstyle Open Part 1 from Jebu23 and watch the showreel of Mestre Hulk to see some well used ginga. But if you aren't a really great Mestre Yet, then I agree it's better to not do It.
Imagining and actually doing are two completely different things. Point is, he is only a flamboyant point fighter and this type of thing doesn't fly anymore with the realization of true martial arts. Unless you're ONLY looking for crap like this, then the XMA is just for you.
The reply seems rather pointless to the video though. Point fighting isn't meant to be effective. That was my only statement. He's not necessarily a flamboyant fighter- he's a flamboyant point fighter, and that's what he's demonstrating. I've seen fighters that are perfectly competent fighters that fight totally different in point competitions. It's art vs. fighting.
Very nice n' pretty. But this would be very ineffective against a seriously trained fighter. Good against idiots and other Taekwondo guys, but not much else. Looks cool though.
nice, he can do flares

this is MMA application of Capoeira, face it.
Capoeira started as a martial art disguised as a dance, and it can be used against other styles effectively, this video is proof.
all the feints, kicks, and swats reminiscent of capoeira are clear in this video, there shouldnt be an arguement here.

Not once did I see him ginga, nor does anything he does hint at roots in the art of Capoeira.
P.S. Cauberto, nao sei. Vc do brasil? De onde vc e'? Se eu encontro um som, vou mandar pra vc. Ta bom? Falou!
