gto's are very fast cars but its hard to beat a mustang cobra that is built to compete with saleens. not saying the gto cant beat it but it really depends on the drivers skill

Different diameter pullies can help save hp to rear wheels due to less use on driving accessories which take power some power, like say the alternator for example but bad if you have a nice sound system that craves power. It's a dumb term or maybe you we just stating that already!

@Aspired329 sorry, the 03 and 04 cobra has a factory supercharged roots style blower and he is saying he has a smaller pulley on the supercharger for a few extra pounds of boost. Any other model and you would probably be right.

@bmanhcb The coupe version of the cobra actually weighs 60 pounds less than the GTO, also there are cobras with kenne bell and whipple superchargers that put down 700 to 825 rwhp and 900 rwhp with a procharger, so simply putting a blower on the GTO isn't necessarily going to make it win everytime against a cobra with a blower to.
I don't understand why everyone gets so stupid in these comment sections. The GTO motor is larger displacement but dimensionally a comparable size to the 4.6 since OHC motors have a massive topend compared to pushrod motors. I had a 420+ rwhp cammed/intake/full exhaust 06 GTO and although I never raced a Termi I put a hurting on all GT's and many Vettes, not to mention every ricer from Civic SI's to a 350whp Talon. I am now either buying a new 5.0 or an 03 Cobra but the GTO was no joke.

@afgandominator I now own a 2012 5.0. With intake, exhaust, and tune it feels pretty similar to my GTO. A little less torque, a little more top end. The Mustang's 3.73 gears make it rev quicker than the GTO's 3.46 gears and the Brembo package makes it handle like a champ. It needs some drag radials though, the car can't hook for shit on the stock Pirellis.

@vortec48rulz 03-04 Cobra is 3665lbs in coupe form. Even my 98 Cobra, no blower(~-40lbs), no IRS(-140lbs), no T-56(-?), no iron block(-86lbs), with no mufflers, a 16lb battery instead of the stock one and other upgrades to shed some weight clocks in at 3270lbs

Mustang has a smaller engine and a not-so-great eaton blower with stock cams, i'd say it did well. Those roots-types don't blow/compress air nearly as well as the screw-types.

I think a lot of drivers change gears too early. For goat it should be about 5750 RPM or higher to change gears to get full 400hp. There is something to be said for what the driver knows about their car, plus auto/manual.

Pontiac did make there own motors for the GTO series starting from 1969. They made them so they could purposely bet Camaros, and Mustangs. But in mustangs and camaros you could drop out the engine and replace where on a GTO they specifically dident want you doing it so the car could have its own unique motor and power.
@STRob35 - Ummm, not sure where you got your info, Pontiac made the 389 which was housed in the '64-'66 GTO's making 325-335 HP. The '67 was a Pontiac 400 which was the same motor found in the Firebird. The HO version made 360 HP. The '70 GTO Judge came with a Pontiac 455 (a 400 was also available). No GTO from that era ever had a non-Pontiac motor.
I don't know I would give the edge to the GOAT, cause if you think about it, the GTO is a heavier car out of the factory at 3725 lbs compared to the Cobra, which I believe is around 3560...Plus the GTO has a passenger in this race...I think if you take the passenger out of the GTO, the GTO will pull on the Cobra..Just another example of smaller displacement Force Induced Ford vs Larger Displacement all motor GM!

Man I love both cars but keep reading this (the cobra is blown) biz. From what I am reading this is pullied and exhaust cobra with a shifter, the gto is HEADS CAM INTAKE. Stock for stock my old fox with HCI picked up 220hp so saying that the smaller motor being blow is unfair is a joke really. 4.6 stock heads cam blown vs 6.0 heads cam intake tune etc. I say that its fair. Its like saying a turbo 3.0 isnt fair because it has a turbo. all in all it lack lters blower makes up for it. nice race

They could have given the 6.0 more power/torque. the Hp seems quite short for such a big engine. looks are ok. it looks good but could have been better.

A supercharger would help a lot. not sure guessing 60+ hp or so.
Honestly the gto probably should win if its a heads/cam/intake ls2 it should be putting down 460-470ish i doubt the cobra makes that much. Maybe weight is the factor

@RAGEownsAll That's true that the Cobra is rated at 390 but I've seen a lot of stock Cobras dyno at about 430. You can read a few articles about it as well, how the power was underrated from the factory specs.

It looks like a Accord w/ a 6.0 LS motor. The Holden Monaro looked better but considering what a heritage GTO's are, It had alot to live up to but, IMO, it failed in the looks dept. an t wasn't priced for blue collars. A lesson GM learned or didn't from the 5th gen Firebirds and Camaros.

What N/A SB ford are you talking about? Are you refering to the 4.6 which is a whole honda engine smaller than an LS1. How exactly is it superior again? Oh that's right, more cubes through stroking. For me - 2006 M6 LS2 GTO stock - 2008 Cobra lost.
I think a lot of drivers change gears too early. For goat it should be about 5750 RPM or higher to change gears to get full 400hp. There is something to be said for what the driver knows about their car, plus auto/manual.

Pontiac did make there own motors for the GTO series starting from 1969. They made them so they could purposely bet Camaros, and Mustangs. But in mustangs and camaros you could drop out the engine and replace where on a GTO they specifically dident want you doing it so the car could have its own unique motor and power.

@STRob35 - Ummm, not sure where you got your info, Pontiac made the 389 which was housed in the '64-'66 GTO's making 325-335 HP. The '67 was a Pontiac 400 which was the same motor found in the Firebird. The HO version made 360 HP. The '70 GTO Judge came with a Pontiac 455 (a 400 was also available). No GTO from that era ever had a non-Pontiac motor.

I don't know I would give the edge to the GOAT, cause if you think about it, the GTO is a heavier car out of the factory at 3725 lbs compared to the Cobra, which I believe is around 3560...Plus the GTO has a passenger in this race...I think if you take the passenger out of the GTO, the GTO will pull on the Cobra..Just another example of smaller displacement Force Induced Ford vs Larger Displacement all motor GM!

Wow that cobra can't be puttin over 420 and I know that gto is puttin down at least 480-500 with heads and cams, and its got 1.4l more than the cobra. Unless GTO's are just crap and poorly built motors then it should have one. On second thought, they are crap.

Man I love both cars but keep reading this (the cobra is blown) biz. From what I am reading this is pullied and exhaust cobra with a shifter, the gto is HEADS CAM INTAKE. Stock for stock my old fox with HCI picked up 220hp so saying that the smaller motor being blow is unfair is a joke really. 4.6 stock heads cam blown vs 6.0 heads cam intake tune etc. I say that its fair. Its like saying a turbo 3.0 isnt fair because it has a turbo. all in all it lack lters blower makes up for it. nice race

They could have given the 6.0 more power/torque. the Hp seems quite short for such a big engine. looks are ok. it looks good but could have been better.
just sucks having such a big engine and having a Subaru sti walk away from u.
A supercharger would help a lot. not sure guessing 60+ hp or so.

@RAGEownsAll Don't forget that the 02'-04' Cobras also had the blowers. I like GM more than Ford also, but Poncho really blew an opportunity to make the GTO look really cool. It looks like a Accord w/ a 6.0 LS motor. The Holden Monaro looked better but considering what a heritage GTO's are, It had alot to live up to but, IMO, it failed in the looks dept. an t wasn't priced for blue collars. A lesson GM learned or didn't from the 5th gen Firebirds and Camaros.

What N/A SB ford are you talking about? Are you refering to the 4.6 which is a whole honda engine smaller than an LS1. How exactly is it superior again? Oh that's right, more cubes through stroking. HOLY TECHNOLOGY. As for the vaunted LS6, Ford made an engine with exactly the same hp and less cubes for the 400hp Cobra R and pretty much every Australian Boss going back to 2004. Normally aspirated. And don't let me get started on the crate motors with 302ci/450hp. So get off the GM dick, dude.
