  • I love this video! I feel like I've missed everything. I've never been to a meet up and I'm just so jealous I could spit! Oh poor pitiful me, oh poor pitiful me!

  • @cofcfemmes I'm lousy at keeping up with comments here on YT lately. Sorry about that. Thanks for all the nice things you've said here and on the other videos.

And hold your spit because I'm pretty sure that another wave of meetups and gatherings has to be in the not-so-distant future.

  • So who's doing what now?

  • QUACK!

  • It was good to revisit this again.

    Blame Syd :)

  • lol, I'm guessing she wouldn't mind, Andy.

  • Gary at 1:14 (tear in me eye)

    You and Ken 3:00 (giggles)

Another tear at 5:17 *runs for tissue*

  • Here, I'll share what's left of my box of Kleenex after watching YOUR video.

    ;-)

Makes sense that we'd all be of a similar reflective mindset lately given that we signed up around the same time. And the site itself is about to hit the 5 year mark soon.

I can't help but wonder where we'll be RE: all this by the 10 year Tuberversary.

  • Thanks for the rest of your tissues.

I haven't been to one of those meet-ups yet, but the TENTH one might be the exception. :o)

  • Bwahahaha!

We'll get you to one of them soon enough, my pretty.

    ;-)

  • I'm guessing Youtubes helped a bunch of you find yourselves as well as each other. Envy you guys for having the courage to post vids of yourselves. Hop I have the courage to do that one day. Big feet means big socks!

  • I like that saying.

I'd say if the inspiration is there, then go for it.

YouTube's been good for more things than I sometimes realize.

Thanks for all the comments you left, btw. Looks like you had quite a marathon with this stuff. In fact, the first thing I thought was, "oh the poor guy put himself through all this craziness?!" LOL

OH, and Happy Belated Birthday too!

    :-)

  • Your coverage of YouTube events is always a fun and interesting ride... I'm back from my vacation now with a lot of catching up to do :)

  • You've become and editor/presenter/narrator bar none. Damn Curt, I loved this! Now I'll go have a drink ;)

  • LOL - now that's how to celebrate YouTube.

Thanks, John. Given your skill and talent, I take that as a huge compliment.

  • Curt, fantastic video!

I would have loved being there, but I guess there's always next time, another gathering, etc.

I really liked the narration, btw.

  • Yeah! The cool connections and friendships that one's able to make with people from around the globe are the important things. YouTube happened to be the catalyst :)

    YouTube LIVE looked fun though.

  • Looked like tons of fun dude !!!

  • Great Video, so nice to meet you in person, finally! {HUGS}

  • I didn't even know he had called you while we were there, too funny!

BTW, a certain sheriff has been instructed to make a certain LilCav68 a sandwich. So be on the look-out.

    :-)

  • or your life. soree, i kant spel cuz i'm a looser.

  • spellling corerectaly is fro dousch-baggs

    :-)

  • Another heartfelt and funny installment of you life.

  • leave it to Gary to get to the essence. Great video, and thank you.

  • Nutcheese is getting FAT!!!

  • Just more of her to love.

  • Thanks for sharing! This videos always touch my heart! Can't wait to huge the tubes people again! Only we can understand!

YouTube changed our life's in a live proportion every single day! ;)

  • You got a mention, btw, in Mike's "2 Gays, 1 Ginger" video.

    :-)

  • looked like fun!

  • It was a blast, yep!

  • This was really well done!

  • Thanks, Victor

We were wondering about the Tokyo thing - the only thing we found online about it the next morning was a report saying that the live feed didn't even happen. If that's true, talk about FAIL.

  • COOOOOOOOOOL!

    Yeah, Tokyo was similar.

  • You hit it right on and summarized gatherings and what youtube means to the citizens of it's community. I only wished that I could have made it out there to share in the real life memories.

  • Based on your Twitters, it's apparent you've had your hands full - any chance you'll be able to make it to SF for the one in March?

See ChristopherMast and/or Musosf for details.

  • I don't know what my financial situation will be but if I can find a really cheap way out there with a place to stay I hope to be there.

  • Was this in Frisco? I didn't even hear about it! If it was, I'm gonna kick myself for being so close to y'all and not knowing it! Hope you had fun and have a wonderful and safe Thanksgiving, Curt! :)

    Cobes

  • I thought I mentioned it to you on MySpace, Cobi! Dayum! Start kickin', girly, 'cause it was in SF!

  • We would've loved to see you there, Cobi!

There's another one on the calendar for the last weekend of March, just so you know.

  • Ha Ha great video, very entertaining at the end.

  • Thanks - yeah, the end was my chance to use all the leftovers, otherwise I might have had to resort to some sort of "outtake" reel.

  • Oooh...Another tag-team video response!

  • LOL - I was just thinking that when Mike finally gets his up (1), we should attach ours to his (2), or maybe we could create a chain (3).

It gets tiring to write "that's what he said" everywhere, so to make it easier on everyone, I've just numbered where each one should go.

    Sheesh!

  • Amazing... looks like a good time was had by all. Cheers, great video Curt!

  • It really was. I'd say if you ever have the chance to go to one of these things, it's worth checking out.

In fact, there's another one planned for the last weekend in March (tho it won't be another "Live" event, just a casual gathering).

  • Curt you must remember that they dont make diamonds as big as bricks so not being the biggest isnt everything.

  • I'm blown away by how deep - and sweet - your comment is.

    Thank you for that!

    :-)

  • As long as YouTube allows anyone to post videos for no charge, and with relatively few restrictions, I have no problem with the whole "YouTube celebrity" thing.

I'm all ready on public access TV, as opposed to "real" TV, so being on the outskirts, the "public access" of YouTube, is okay with me. Being on the fringe can be more fun and exciting.

Looks like it was a cool event. Yayy!!!

    -- Matt

  • Sometimes the more peaceful corners are also just healthier, right?

    :-)

Still looking forward to seeing you and Happy at another gathering soon, Matt

  • Excellent.

    :-)

  • ((curt))

    *tori*

  • Hey Tori!

    (((Hugs)))

  • Thanks, Russ - hope to see you at one of these wacky shindigs again soon.

  • It looks like you guys had the time of your lives! :))) We really are fortunate that YT has brought so many together. And free shit ain't bad ;)

  • LOL - amen to that last part, but especially to the first part.

    I've missed our banter, btw.

  • I have too. Lots on my plate lately starting at the beginning of August.

  • And why were you not there?

    Hmm? HMMM??!

    ;-)

  • LOL, I remember him telling me that.

Things like that are another reason why these face to face meetings are a kick.

    :-)

  • *NOT WORTHY!*

Thanks, I'm glad when these types of videos are even half-way tolerable for those who weren't physically present at the time. Anything beyond that is either a miracle or a blessing.

  • I do tend to get sentimental at these things - at some point someone is going to hit me in the face with a pie over it, lol.

As for the streaming video, I think a lot of people gave up before it was finished. It was definitely one of those things that was shaped by the ability to watch alongside people you knew - just my opinion, of course.

  • HA! You got a deal there. I think I'll opt for the helmet if we do the bike, though.

    (((Mic)))

  • We have our own happy social corner, I think. It's a BIG corner, of course, but I get what you mean.

Thanks, Randy. Knowing you have done this on a far more professional level than I ever have, that's a monumental compliment.

I keep saying this, but it's true:

    BEST HOBBY EVER!!

  • They're a blast and YES, by all means, get to one when you can.

There's one on the calendar already for San Francisco during the last weekend in March '09, btw. The guys putting it together said they'll be announcing it soon (they wanted this one to play out first).

  • Make mARIA a sandwich on camera and I'll rejoin SpaghettiVlogs.

    :-D

  • Allegedly there's no such thing as free anything, but hopefully YouTube didn't take any souls as currency for those things.

I mean they're cute cameras, but come on!

  • soo not fair i wanted to go! lolx

  • Now that you're "across the pond" hopefully they'll put on one of these over there so you can go.

*Big hugs for you & the whole fam-damily!*

  • wow, awesome video!! i wish i could have been there to meet all these great people... didn't really see all of that on the live stream.

best thing i saw that evening was bo burnham's song. that guy really cracked me up :P

  • Nope, the live stream was a very different animal. Not bad, just different.

And I agree, Burnham's tune was one of the best parts. In fact, he and Buckley pretty much made the show worth sticking around for IMO.

  • The only consolation to not being there is these videos! Like you and Gary said, I wouldn't have you guys as friends without good ol YT! I can't wait to finally meet you, Curt! I am hoping on March in SF!!

Big feet and big afro! :O

  • You ARE? AWESOME!!

Yep, I'm planning for it too (a job hunt after graduation takes precedent, however, so keep your fingers crossed).

  • Either way I am coming to see you, if my plans all work out I spending a few days in LA after the SF gathering.

  • Hanging out with AngryAussie, nutcheese ,Kenrg, christophermast ok not so much that mast guy( you know I just messing with you chris) Looks like you had a good time wish I could have gone...MIKMA WAS HERE

  • When a gathering takes place and Mikma wasn't there, something is lacking.

AngryAussie was one of the coolest people at that shindig. A few of us wound up chatting with him for hours later on at Christopher's. Didn't wrap it up until 2am.

  • that was such a great compilation of moments Curt, I agree with you 100% and I too feel like a rich woman to have the honor of calling you my friends :)

I can't wait to see you guys again !!!!

    ((((((((((((( Curt ))))))))))))))

  • We'll always have GriffithTube...

    ;-)

    (((Salme)))

Any chance you and Brandon will be present for the San Francisco meet-up planned for the last weekend in March?

  • Ha!! Griffith tube FTMFW :)

I am pretty sure we will be there, are you kidding me??? my chance to meet a lot of people I want to meet and to see a lot of you that I've already met, no way I am missing that one.

  • So true.

  • Hallelujah!

  • Thanks for sharing Curt and all your insight.

  • I'm grateful for the days when I have enough insight just to dress myself and get out the front door.

    :-)

  • Fantastic vid!

  • Thanks!

    :-)

  • Yayyyy! Gary went to that one, too? Damn, you guys are beating me on the gathering-count! It looks like you had fun!

I hope to see you at the next one! *hugs*

  • Yep, he was really quiet about it too, the sneaky devil.

    :-)

Here's to these hugs taking place in person at one of the next meet-ups! In fact, there's one being planned for San Francisco in March...

  • This was very cool. I am glad you went to share it with all of us.

  • Thanks!

Truth be told, I'm salivating for the NEXT gathering already.

  • Best video bar none on "yt's live" show;)

Just simply does not get any better Curt, thanks for sharing!!

    Embrace Life,

    Marylou

    xxoo

  • Thanks, Marylou!

I'm just glad when vacation footage like this is tolerable to watch half-way through. LOL

  • Thanks a lot, Curt. I was having a good day and now I miss everyone. ASSHOLE! ;-)

  • Kelley says I'm precious.

    So suck it.

    ;-P

We need to get you to one of these gatherings, dammit! Any chance we can get you to the one planned for San Francisco during the last weekend of March?

  • Voice over commentary! I felt like I was watching a 'for real' documentary of the event! Well Done! All you need is to be be picked up by MTV and have Christopher Walken do the commentary.. wait.. I mean, perhaps.. Robin Williams because he's native to that town. ;)I'm happy for you that Gary came all the way from Wisonsin. I know he's your fwend. Now you just need Blinkazoid to get to one of these thing!! Free camera's? What did you have to do to get one of those?

  • Robin Williams - can he even sit still long enough to record a few lines of commentary? LOL

I had forgotten that SF was his home, but you're right (fun with trivia!).

Hanging out with Gary again was a major perk.

Hanging out with Blinkazoid is still on my list, trust me.

There's a gathering planned over near you this next weekend. AngryAussie plans to be there, in fact. Any chance you'll be that or one of the others at some point?

    :-)

  • Hey! After I read this comment (when you left it).. I tried, tried tried to find information on any Aussie gatherings and could find no video's or links or chatter about it anywhere. Then got distracted and forgot about it. So whatever went down recently I missed out! I need to find out about gatherings in advance so I can plan for them. Even a 2hour return trip by car requires financial planning for me. I'm not subscribed to many Aussies so I usually hear about these gatherings through you.

  • Glad you had a great time Curt. I always love your perspective on these Gatherings. :)

  • Thanks, Alesha!

    :-)

  • lol you think andy's tall, psh =P

I'm definitely not going to miss the next gathering round the south. Can't keep missing this crap!

  • LOL - I know for a fact you'd be patting us both on the head and saying, "isn't that nice!"

    :-)

Yes, Rick, we need to see you at one of these crazy meet-ups. Shaking your hand is on my personal list of things to do.

  • Well next time you and you're mob are in this general direction, official meeting or not, let me know, so i can let you die a happy man. =P You might have to borrow those stilts though :D

  • I actually LOL @ :45 >:D

  • He had us LOL'ing like mad later on in the evening when we were hanging out just talking. It was 2am when we finally called it a night.

  • Excellent video Curt.

Nice production and editing. Could not have summed things up better. Glad to have you as part of our lives.

  • Thanks, you two. The respect and admiration are mutual.

  • Loved your video.. I am enjoying everyone's behind the scene videos more that the actual live show.. As for the bugs.. Here in the freezing North our bugs are gone replaced by snow and ice.. oh joy.. LOL

  • And that's exactly why we have no room to complain when a few inches of rain fall down upon Southern California. As a former Midwesterner, I feel your pain.

    :-)

    Thanks!

  • That was amazing. you know, I feel like I was there. Ok, I was there on a stick BUT there because you guys thought of me and cells are amazing. So cool Curt. You know I have mad love for you <3

  • I told Craig that if he makes you a sandwich on camera, I'll rejoin SpaghettiVlogs.

    (((mARIA)))

  • Hahahah He stole your seat.. great come back lol Is it just me or are you getting better looking as we girls get older! ; P

I have a flip but those were wicked! You serious you didn't get a flip?

  • Nope, didn't get one. But it's okay. I already have a camera. There are other free YT related items that are less tangible and far more valuable.

    (((Pipp)))

  • Oh Curt--I SOOOO love this video. Yesterday, I actually spent the day with Jeepgirl--for the first time ever. It was amazing and so very magical. To meet someone in person that you have met online is extremely astonishing!!! You are so correct--it is not this webiste--it is the friendships and the people we meet here that matter the most. Big Hugs Curt!!!~Marilyn

  • THAT'S FANTASTIC!

It's about time you two got to hang out in person, Marilyn. Heck, if it weren't for you, I wouldn't even know who Joyce was!

    (((Moonchimes)))

  • This was an awesome video. All the great people I met because of this website has been so awesome. Cant wait to add you to the great people I have gotten to meet list:)

  • Likewise - any chance you'll get to the San Francisco gathering that's being planned for the last weekend in March?

    :-)

  • That was a VERY well done documentary!

  • Thanks - I love doing these kinds of videos. Sorta wish I had more opportunity.

  • Perfect summing up of the event. Beautiful. five stars and faved.

    Loved hanging out with you.

  • It was a pleasure seeing you again, Cori. Just wish we had more time to gab.

    March '09??

    :-D

  • That was fantastic Curt. Yes Gary had me crying because he's spot on, YouTube is how we met and it's why we keep making the effort to be here even when we're busy. Wow you're pretty tall too, I had no idea! Cheers, Lesley x

  • Gary made all of us cry in person - but only because he kept singing Michael Jackson's "Thriller" (his dance moves are impressive, I must say).

Seriously, though, I look forward to the day when I can give you a big hug in person.

    :-)

  • Excellent recap my friend. Enjoyed hanging and you were an excellent co-pilot as well. See ya soon. Cheers... J.

  • The drive back to L.A. breezed by easily and I was happy to be co-pilot. Thanks again for letting me do that!

In other news, I think I'm ready for another gathering.

    *addicted!!*

  • Curt... you are so fucking precious! :D

  • I just had a cup of coffee and I can smell my own socks without lifting my feet to my face.

  • This is BY FAR the best video I've seen of the

    event.Love your videos--they always include

the tubers I like the most.Too bad YT couldn't have concentrated a little more on the people who have made the site entertaining

versus the 'most hits people'.Although, I

think Buck made YTLive worth watching other than the few glimpses of my faves.I agree they should have panned the audience so we could have seen who was there besides

the'celebrities'they think are the most important.Great Vid Curt!

  • THANK YOU!

I love including my YT cohorts in my video madness, whether its in person like this or clipping them into stuff I record here at home.

And you're right about Buckley. That man stood out from the crowd that was on stage.

  • Now this Should be Featured!!! This is What Youtube Is Truely about not the LIVE stuff. Come to a real YOUTUBE LIVE GATHERING and See What It's All About!!!

  • Thanks to AngryAussie and me taking the playful jab at Fred w/in the first minute, I'm guessing this will NEVER be featured. LOL

That's okay, tho. Actually, there are people who work at YouTube who've been to gatherings like South Tube, 777, 888, etc., and I think they understand our role in the whole thing. The corporate media stuff, though, is a whole other animal and I got the feel that they're still working out how to contend with it themselves. This was part of that experiment, I'd guess.

  • That looked like so much fun !

  • It was a freakin' BLAST!

    :-D

  • Curt, that was really good. Now I feel like I was there. Only took 5 minutes.

  • And think of all you saved on the air fare.

    :-)

    Thanks, Boomer!

  • Awesome job. Wish I could have joined you!

  • Love you, Terry.

How about March '09 for the next San Francisco gathering?

    :-)

  • In the midst of all the post YTLive hoopla, it's videos like these that are fun to watch! :) Great narrative! I saw a pic on FB of 2:56!

    Great video. +5

  • FB - as in FantasticBabblings?

If ONLY Phil had been with us...

Thanks, Ann - I think many of us would agree that the event could have benefited from you being there too.

  • Aw, thank you. :) I feel the love.

I meant Facebook. There was a photo I think Jason posted. It may have been Jason anyway. :D

  • I think it was me who posted it, Ann! :)

  • Hi Curt, I'm glad to see Angry Aussie in the video, where you able to catch up. I will be seeing him on Saturday at the Sydney gathering.

  • He was a treat to talk to, lemme tell ya. Yes, we wound up bumping into him after the performance and he joined a few of us at ChristopherMast's place to shoot the breeze until about 2am. As I'm certain you already know from meeting him, he's even cooler in person than you'd guess from the videos.

  • Excellent Curt, better than an episode of The Wonder Years!

  • And that was a terrific show, so THANK YOU!!

  • You make the best videos, Curt ... good photography and editing, plus a real message. I've watched a ton of YouTube live videos and found little to like. Yours is the pleasant exception!

I saw YTL on the web and was actually not into it at all. Like Zipster said, it was overly focused on the younger set. Also, to me YT is real and amateur, instead of polished and professional. I never felt less connected with the YT community.

  • Nic and I watched Zipster's review the next morning on his laptop - we totally agree. It was like watching a version of YT that we didn't even know existed because, for us, YT is far more diverse than what we were seeing in the concert.

They were never going to please everyone, I guess.

Thank you for the sweet compliment. I do love this crazy hobby!

  • Excellent video Curt.

Gary summed it all up so well. For all it's faults, it is YouTube that made all of this happen. I do think some people lose sight of that sometimes.

The only thing wrong with this video is that i wasn't able to be in it :)

  • I AGREE. You should have been there.

    March '09 perhaps??

We address you directly in the video Gary uploaded a few hours ago, just so you know.

    :-)

  • Just watched Gary's video, great stuff.

BTW I think you did a pretty good job as the 'stand in Andy' :)

As for March '09. I'd love to be there. Not sure if i can swing it though, for several reasons, but you never know :)

  • Yeah yeah yeah, that's all very interesting.

What we want to know is whether Mast paid his bill. :D j/k

    Seriously-great vid.

Looks like an awesome time was had by all.

  • LOL - actually, even though Christopher had to leave early, he did throw in his share and then some.

That was the only scripted part of Ken's video, btw.

    :-D

  • Haha! That's funny that you guys thought to do that because it did look odd that Mast disappeared halfway through the video. I guess that is how you can tell a true YouTuber--they think how it will look on screen, and what other shots they would need to make it better!

  • Wow Curt - that was terrific. You are right of course - anything that brings people together is a good thing, regardless of it's failings. Thanks for showing us so many terrific people together.

  • It was a sheer pleasure to present the weekend this way, trust me. In a way it's even kind of a bragging ritual, I guess. I have so much fun at these things that I can't wait to share the best parts (or at least the best parts of what I recorded).

  • Missed the live event but seen a couple of clips. Looks like everyone had a great time. Nalts got a Hello Kitty camera, lol!

  • Did he? HA! Perfect.

Actually, it was because of his help through Kelley that I even got in the door for this thing at all. I very well could have been stuck outside the closed doors.

  • Thanks for sharing this Curt! Didn't know Gary was going to be there! He's such a great guy as are you and Mike and well, hell, all of you! Blessings, Grams

  • Gary was a sly one about it.

    ;-)

His decision to go was sorta last minute.

    Thanks, Grams!

  • How Fun! I watched from home hehe.

  • You had the most comfortable seat in the house, then, I think. LOL

  • I love this vid Curt. It made me tear up and travel back a few months to the 888 MeetUp. It's crazy... we made such great friends on a website. Amazing. luv you, Chris

  • (((CHRIS)))

  • (((Gary))) :-)

  • ((((Chris))))

  • My impression watching from home was it was kind of like the Brit Awards, without the awards. . .

And the music started to get REALLY awful towards the end!

I'm sure it was much more fun to actually be there-it's all about the company.

    Nice vid :)

  • Thanks, Tia - yeah, it was fun because of the energy and getting to be with friends. The show itself was okay but I think the flaws might be due to the fact that YT/Google is still feeling things out themselves.

If they really do plan to do this again next year, it will be interesting to see what they change about it.

  • "It didn't suck as bad as I thought" - "Can't beat free shit" - But the main thing is the friendships, absolutely. Great commentary on the event, but that angle you had on me, with the sun that bright, really made me look balder than necessary...

  • LOL!

And thanks to his angles on me, I looked like even more the giant!

DId we really meet just a few days ago, or was that all some kind of dream?

  • "Did we really meet just a few days ago, or was that all some kind of dream?" ... couldn't it be both?

  • Perhaps we met on some psychic plane....because how else could you explain the connections made between WI and CA folk? Maybe we all ARE part of the matrix!

So now, you're going to be there in March?? With some much going on, we never had the "let's figure out the problems of the world" discussion over good beer (the beer was fab, btw!)."

  • Do we need to start competing for the trophy of "most balding" here? Because I think I could compete quite nicely.

    :-)

That lunch was a high point in my YT history, I gotta tell ya!

  • Amen brother. On all of this.

  • I agree with Diana. This has to go on my iPod. A lot of people thought I was crazy to come all the way from Wisconsin for this, but this video explains exactly why. Also, when you need that Mac help and Diana's not around, let me know! :) I'm glad you also posted the part of Jason saying that the event wasn't that bad. It really wasn't. It was fun and probably a good compromise what things were all about. But when i talk about this gathering, I never mention it!

  • If he gets a MAC then he becomes my gay then. You can't have all of him. MAC users FFS

  • You love us Mac heads. Admit it. =P

  • Mac lovers give what now??

  • I watched a bit of YT L
