Frogger and Ms. Pac-Man did NOT originate on the Atari systems; they originated in the arcades and were ported over to the Atari systems. What you're actually comparing are ports of arcade games on two different systems.
@vwestlife Still doesn't help that the title reads "Atari originl vs. Sega Genesis remake", which would make people assume that the games originated with Atari.
As an owner of a real Frogger arcade, I've got to say the genesis version is very close to the real thing, other than text being moved around. The reason for the text being moved is the arcade monitor is mounted vertically.
@NightSprinter It might be, but I was speaking in terms of home console releases. Parker Brothers had the license for the original U.S. home release of Frogger (on cartridge; floppy disk and tape versions were licensed to Sierra Online). Back then it wasn't possible to directly port an arcade game to a home console like the Atari 2600 or Colecovision, so that's why the Parker Brothers version of Frogger is so different (and arguably better) than the Konami/Sega arcade version.
@NightSprinter Yeah, the Genesis version is an arcade-perfect port. The question might as well be "Would you rather play the Atari 8-bit home version of Frogger or the original arcade game?"
@ioport As someone who was just a baby when these games were new, I never got to see or play the original arcade versions. So, I just like having the most playable and enjoyable console version to play, regardless if it is faithful to the arcade or not.
I also have "Hopper" for the IBM PC, and it actually isn't that bad of a copy, considering the limited sound and graphics of PCs back then. I haven't played the Sega version long enough to find out if it gets any faster or not!
I've found that games on the 8-bit Atari computer series often focus on being the most playable and enjoyable -- not necessarily the most accurate to the arcade version. Atarisoft also made excellent versions for the C64, Apple II, and other computers -- see bbishoppcm's video on the Apple II version of Ms. Pac-Man, for example.
My channel was temporarily suspended due to a fraudulent copyright claim against one of my videos. I filed a counter-claim which was ultimately successful, but in usual YouTube fashion it took them about a month to process it.

@VicGeorge2K6 That's why I referred to them as the "original Atari releases", not simply the "original", period.

Wow that genesis version is great, I had long sold my genesis by 98 though. But I would have bought it for sure.

Thing is, the Genesis port of Frogger is just the actual arcade game. It's not a remake.

the genesis version was the better one - it looked like the arcade, so that sells me.

I Would rather see Atari Vs. Amiga (500)

It was THE last game released for the Sega Genesis and it does get faster the longer you play and progress.

Yesterday I was playing a frogger ripoff called "hopper" - Acornsoft in the UK ripped off everything for their BBC and Electron machines.
Does the Genesis one get faster if you carry on playing further?

I think the Atari version looks better, but the Genesis version is almost identical to the arcade original.

Damn sorry to hear but glad your back on air. Well done and keep up the videos. Especially the Commodore, Apple and Tandy ones! Awesome.

remakes are usually worse in some sense. the Genesis version could as well be on the NES..
