  • Hi i'm a medical student and it's always interesting to hear about people's experiences.. Thank you for sharing! Glad you made it through.

  • My mom suffered from this years ago. She had it from the neck down. She couldn't move or control her muscles. We all were so scared. Test after test & finally we received an answer, she was diagnosed with Guillain Barre. I was by her side 24-7. She had to go through a significant amount of physical therapy, We were all surprised & grateful to God that she made a full recovery. Many people dont. She still lives in fear that it may come back....Thanks, BJ

  • Thank you for posting this video. It had helped me understand the disease. I happen to have met someone today in ICU with GBS, and didn't know what it was. Now I do. Thank you:)

And keep going with the recovery. You look great! Go Aussie Spirit!

  • Thanks to all of you who have commented - Risa, Tom, Ben and others. If you have any questions, please email me. It is 2 1/2 years since I had GBS and I am at 98% recovered. Love to assist where possible. Love. Jon

  • Brilliant! I wish I had this when I came down with it.

  • Thank you Jon for your information. A year ago I suddenly went down onto a hard floor and by some luck someone missed me and alerted authorities SIX DAYS LATER. They broke into my home a quickly transported me to Emergency/ICU. Three weeks there, then a month in physical rehab to learn to stand and walk a bit. I have continued strengthening exercises at home for a year by now. Only had one fall since. Takes patience. Meanwhile, no job, losing my home to the bank. Trying to keep my chin up! Bless

  • I had guillan barre made it alive - year 2007 at 12 years old

  • Watching this story brings back memories as I had Guillain Barre in 2004 - I had the full body/respitory paralysis. I was in hospital for 5 mths. I did have to be put on a venitlator system for sometime due to the fact my left lung collapsed. Glad that I have recovered even though it took me close to 2 and half years after having it. .

Best wishes and much love to all those who are recovering from GBS.

  • Hi:) I have this illness atm. It took the doctors 2 days to diagnose GBS, and I got started with the treatment, immunoglobulin. I was in ICU for 1 week in a foreign country, then with medical plane home and got walking last week with help, (3 weeks after diagnose). I had no pain but was fully paralyzed, even my breath. I got blended food the first week. Today I am on rehab and hope the recovery still goes fast. Good luck to all GBS sufferers, keep fighting. Mikkel, Denmark, 19 yrs.

  • Thanks Alex! Keep your Uncle positive and things will be great! Jon.

  • im very pleased to hear you. i have an uncle with the same problem and im doing an article about that, then i would like to share it with you if you may like!!

    greetings from Portugal

  • Many thanks to all of you for your comments and stories. Let us work together to assist to make the recovery from this syndrome as effective as possible for everyone who experieces it. Thanks. Jon.

  • My case was much worse. Thankfully you had good Dr's. Mine took near 3 weeks to diagnose GBS and administer treatment, by then comatose, fully paralyzed, on vent to breathe, 4 weeks in ICU, 8 months paralyzed on vent, 1yr in bed, 5/2011 first time in wheelchair, when inwas in care i was physically & sexually abused. A real horror story.

  • Thanks for sharing ur experiences! I had GBS too, so totally understand u. Best wishes!

  • My sister was diagnosed with GBS back in the early 90's when she was around 18 or 19 years old. She was in intensive care for 2 wks on a respirator and was then transferred to a ward for about a week. She complained of pins and needles in her feet and hands and could not walk at all. Thank goodness she has made a full recovery but it took time and a lot of patience. I'm sure she would say to any GBS sufferrer you will get better but it will take time.

  • Sounds like you were lucky enough to catch this before it got a grip, I was fully paralysed before the treatment was administered, 5 weeks in ICU. 3.5 years later alot of residual issues, very challenging but worth fighting :). Good luck with the healing. Christine, Ireland.

  • it sounds like you had it good compared to my self, With in a matter of 24 hours of my lumber puncture I had total paralysation, I had to be on a ventilator and a tube for feeding I stayed in a paralysed state for 2 months. I was taken in to hospital on 17/12/08 and left hospital 1/4/09 I was in intensive care for 3 months and rehab for the rest. I made a full recovery.

  • Thank you so much for sharing your story... I have a nursing final on Friday, and your story really, really helped me to understand Guillain-Barre.

  • I had GBS 8 years ago and my story is almost identical to yours. Residual side effects look to be the same also.
