no, the appearance of each cat stays the same. Although there are some secret unlockable cats, and a variety of clothing to dress them up.

there is a few glitches on cats 2 i found, like when the kitty is walking around ontop of the jungle gym stands, sometimes he walks on mid air. I agree with newgengamers that it did start to get boring after a few days. id like to try out nintendogs.

Essentially it's like any other pet simulator. Theirs a variety of toys, food, and outfits where you start with a few each and unlock more as you complete goals. The goals vary from getting feeding your cat to raising its intelligence. There's some meters for food, water, strength, int, etc... that apart from using them to complete goals and unlock items and playrooms don't really have any serious effect on your cat. I had mine all down in the red and nothing really happens.

Ubisoft ruined the Petz franchise by attempting to mimic Nintendogs' success. The new games just get... ugh, boring after a while.

Catz 2 is decent, I'll give it that, but nowhere near the original Petz games.

No you have it wrong. Nintendogs came after Petz games. Petz started as a PC game and then Nintendogs came along. After a tiny bit they made Petz DS and GBA version. They did not copy nintendogs, it's backwards. But nobody copied anyone. With petz, you can play Masterz, Catz and dogs and with Nintendogs--it speaks for itself.

depends.  I think my 10 yr. old niece would have near infinite fun with it. I found it started getting old after a few days. Everything is simplified a bit more than other pet games. There's no penalties whatsoever for neglecting your cat(except he won't pay attention to you). I completed 40% of the entire game in 2 days and only a few short sittings. But the cats are cuter, meeting goals are fun. I'd rate it pretty high. Prolly best cat game out right now on DS.

Newgengamers, is this game good? What pet games are good? Nintendog looked ok but they haven't lowered the price at all and I'm not sure I want to pay full price on an old game. I have pets 5 for the pc. It was interesting for a bit but then got boring.

Nintendogs is probably the superior title in the virtual pets genre. But if you're looking for more than dogs, Catz 2 is pretty well made.

Stay away from Sims Virtual Pets, and Paws & Claws. Purr Pals is another one, that sports cats, but it has a wide mix of good and bad features. You'll have to decide for yourself.

Of course these are all DS titles, so keep that in mind.

No, you're right about its lifespan. They added a fair amount of activities and achievements to gain unlockables, but after all the facts, it has a short lifespan. My niece will love it though.
