Luckily I decided to see what an apn was and what it was for. because i couldnt do anything but turn it on and mess with what I had. AT&T told me the very same thing. they said id have trouble texting(sent 2 just now fine, actually easier than with my att phone, extra bar lol) and they said i wouldnt be able to use internet and have bad calls. they wanted me to return it. wonder why? haha. t.y.

My at&t phone broke today and so I unlocked my tmobile g1. I inserted my at&t sim card and now the phone can make calls/text/etc. I'm wondering how the charges will apply? What happens when I buy an app? Download? On my old phone I could only send 200 texts, how about now? What will I be charged for?

@xXCaSp3RZz well those people are right cause G1 is a 3G phone but only works with T-Mobile's 3G network as T-Mobile and AT&T 3G works on different frequencies but you will still be able to use the internet on it just would be on the much slower EDGE (2G)..

whats your budget cause AT&T can get the Motorola Backflip for $49.99 or the Sony Ericsson Vivaz for $79.99, Samsung Captivate $199 and those ones are from AT&T so would work with AT&T's 3G otherwise I would wait and get the G2 when comes out...

it was G because it was on the G network lol G an E should work on the at&t newtwork on teh g1 its the 3G that wont G newtork it a anolog signal very slow but strong can be recived under a rock e is edge network much fatser then G but can be lost if not in good contact with tower 3g is the faster of the 3 but needs a great tower connect to get an sprint 4g is a high speed digital signal with isnt even avabile in most areas becuase of amout of single it takes to recieve it

Yes everything works.... though if you want MMS messaging you will need a data plan as Multimedia Messaging goes over data...

For example my sister has a G1 but doesn't have a data plan so when she gets MMS messages she gets the text part of it but then has a button to download but doesn't download anything cause she doesn't have data.

ya as takes a few minutes for AT&T to add the data plan... You just gotta program AT&T's APN Settings into it... which I have a video with instructions on how to add the APN Setings and what APN Settings to add.

Thanks for the video. I did have to laugh at the G part at the end since it only proves what everyone complaining about how bad AT&T network is in California (and new york). The G is actually 2G, which is worse then Edge. (If you have 3G it actually shows 3G). Speed test on edge was about 140k, 2G is about 30k. :) Anyway, thanks again!

your dad is sort of right you would need to get unlock phone to unlock the Google phone since its not a AT&T phone then once unlocked will need to program it with AT&Ts APN settings to get data/internet to work.

Yes. Market still works

um not hard at all you take out battery input your Non-TMobile SIM Card put battery back in turn on phone and first screen you get is Unlock Screen you input the unlock code and then select the button for Unlock and will get a Unlock Successful confirmation message and then you will be taken to the normal home screen or initial setup wizard if you've never setup the phone...

2) No clue never had/nor used a Pre-Paid account but as long as its a GSM Carrier and has a data plan and you got your carriers APN Setting to program into the phone then should work.. NO GUARANTEES, NO REFUNDS, NO EXCHANGES

Hi Steve,

After I was able to unlocked my G1 with and ATT data sim card, i decided to reset it to factory settings 9to erase old data). Big mistake! Now it is not letting me access my gmail account to start phone. i get this message:"SIM CARD HAS TO BE PROVISIONED FOR DATA SERVICES" (my ATT sim has data and BTW I don't have Tmobile sim anymore). I am in Canada now.

How can I bypass this?, and after doing so, do I need to unlock phone again?

ya when you reset to factory defaults you erased AT&T's APN Settings for data so you will have to reprogram the settings... Now mine is a little different cause mine is the dev 1 phone but when you turn on the phone and you get to the screen where you suppose to press the android icon hit the menu button and should say APN Settings if not then must only be Dev 1 phones and you will have to them find someone with a T-Mobile SIM and Data Services...

No will not need to carrier unlock phone again
